Do these kids not buy new phones? iPhones are nearly a thousand dollars these days and have been +500 bucks for a long while now. A purchase like a VR headset isn't that big of a deal to people who have actual jobs

Because the Samsung Odyssey has the same screens and comes with a set of controllers. Lighthouse 2.0 is cheaper to manufacture than Lighthouse 1.0. Adding a second camera and mic doesn't add +$400. And it doesn't have a fucking headphone jack, so enjoy the built in earphones it comes with.

I bought a Vive and I barely use it now that the magic effect has worn off.

I mean it's pretty neat I guess but setting up and playing a game on my feet is a lot of effort

Just got a vive recently and it's amazing. Even games that I don't really like that much like Fallout 4 become amazing in VR.

I've used a couple of the microsoft sets, the inside out tracking works pretty well.

I'm absolutely loving my Vive and I laugh whenever I see an anti VR thread, the haters are literally just the people who've never used/cant afford a quality headset and/or idiot scrubs who convinced themselves VR would be literal fucking magic and feel let down.

They're kinetic-tier useless if you need body tracking, htc has body trackers but they're more expensive than the headset and oculus sells optional IR stations but they're not on the same level of precision as the htc body tracking system.

I will admit, though, I thought VR wasn't gonna be my thing until I played some for the first time. a videogame about climbing some monochrome walls never seemed like it had much appeal until I had to move very precisely IRL to make it work well.

and honestly I don't think VR is going away, but I don't think it's gonna be mainstream till it's more common on consoles, unfortunately.

Yes the Vive have pucks for extended tracking but all the mayor VR players have roomscale tracking and the only difference being on how they do it and size of the tracking area, only downside with Microsofts take on it is that it only has two cameras on the hmd so your hands are easily occluded.
