Mathias did nothing wrong

He lost

Shit, I just noticed Soma and Mathia have practically the same face, is that intentional?

Here is a good Castlevania.

So I've been playing through a bit of Dawn of Sorrow and...I'm just not feeling it, honestly. I think it's mostly because of the Castle layout so far (Just finished the first Dario fight) and the easy enemies. Do things get better later?

>still no creaking skull

Recently played thru Dracula X and I've had this stuck in my head for days.
youtube.com/watch?v=myN0-bWjcS4

How has Dracula changed with the Castlevania series? Has the franchise done anything to push a character arc for him?

I've yet to play it but I'm 90% certain that Lords of Shadow did

The anime-styled western cartoon animated by gooks does a pretty good job of characterizing the rise of the Lord of Evil (backstory to Castlevania III, which is the first Belmont vs Drac encounter).

Other than the Lords of Shadow Reboot, which is absolute garbage and not connected to the main canon, the most recent attempt to give Drac character was his origin story in Lament of Innocence which came out in 2003. He's dead/only exists as Chaos in the Soma games, and only plays the role of big bad evil guy in PoR and OoE. Judgement is memeshit and there hasn't been a mainline CV since. The only appearance of OG CV characters in the last 10 years is in Pachinko.

Never played any CV games ever, are there any recommended emulators and which game should I start it? I figure I could skip the NES or SNES era games (don't crucify me for oversimplifying) until I've been hooked up or want to experience some lore.

Attached: 1509572827651.jpg (309x331, 36K)

If you sort CV games by timeline, there sadly isn't anything going on for him. You could hope that after the best ending of SOTN where he acknowledges the final words of Lisa to not harm humans Drac would become less radical in games that happened afterwards, but nope.

There's 2 types of Castlevania: Classic and Metroidvania. Skipping 8/16 bit eras you'll miss out on most of the Classic ones that are more linear and have no RPG elements but are still excellent games.

You should probably play Symphony of the Night which is the first of the Metroidvania era. There isn't too much lore, Dracula and Castlevania come back every hundred years or so and the latest member of the Belmont clan needs to come beat Dracula's face in.

Attached: SOTN.jpg (2131x1391, 1015K)

Start with GBA games by the order of release (Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow) emulated on Visual Boy Advance, then move to DS ones (Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia) emulated on Desmume, and finish with Symphony of the Night on ePSXe. I know that SotN is the oldest of the bunch, but it's best to save it for the last or you won't enjoy handheld ones as much. First two emulators don't require any configuration and ePSXe can be downloaed in package with BIOS, plugins and in configured state, even designed specifically for SotN if you look around.

>I know that SotN is the oldest of the bunch, but it's best to save it for the last or you won't enjoy handheld ones as much.
That's pretty much how I played the metroidvanias (OoE was released after I beat SotN for the first time) and I'd say he should do the opposite. The only thing SotN has over the other games are the visuals and sound, gameplay-wise the series only got better with each game. SotN was huge disappointment when I finally played it.

Did you play AoS before? I feel like most of the enjoyment from DoS comes from it being a continuation of AoS in both story and gameplay

>tfw if Simon Belmont ends up in Smash chances are it will be using Ayami Kojima's twinky fuccboi design

Attached: ohno.jpg (587x645, 117K)

>Kojima's Simon
>twinky

That version of Simon was never in Nintendo platforms or popular so I doubt it. They would probably use the not-Conan design.

Seriously. How are you gonna Chad Stride looking like that?

Can we at least hope for some creative use of his classic abilities?

Coolio. Cheers fellas.

best castlevania

They could use Obata's design.

You know that a single picture related to Danganronpa has the power to derail a whole thread.
Be careful next time.

I think Leon has the coolest design out of all the Belmonts

Kojima has a serius problem with samefacing her characters.

Good song.

Post Shanoa because she cute.

DoS feels kinda like a side grade with worse art and some annoying touch screen stuff. Put it down and come back to it later and you'll enjoy it for what it is

Really i wish the game had got a sequel cause some ideas like the soul upgrades are pretty good, they just need refined

I'd say that is a pretty bad suggestion. CotM is probably the hardest metroidvania, but that mostly comes from you need to grind which is annoying. Plus the drop rate is worse than Aira, I don't know anyone who got through the game not doing the card swap glitch

What this user said: CotM is nice if you liked the other metroidvanias.
It is a deviation of the handheld entries and (in my opinion) way too tedious for a newcomer.

SotN and Aria of Sorrow are the big highlights.

All the DS vanias are solid picks.

Harmony of Dissonance is a clone of SotN in many regards (it's like playing Yoshi's Island DS after the original one)

Sypha a cute!

Is anyone a little bit excited for Bloodstained?

Season 2 trailer when?

>Harmony of Dissonance is a clone of SotN in many regards
Outside of the reused assets and the SoTN successor meme, no it isn't, it plays nothing alike SoTN.

At least play Super Castlevania on SNES.

After the graphics change opinion seems to have turned around on it and is pretty positive. Even with the breast reduction

At worst it will be a worse Aira of Sorrow, so Dawn of Sorrow

Wee bit...

Secretly really glad they revamped the demo boss as it looked really naive.

They're iterating on the food system as well, which sounds promising. I Just don't expect anything as tight as the DS vanias. The areas contain too much browns and grays to my liking.

Where? I'm still trying to find gameplay footage of it but without success.

around 18 minutes

Rondo version is better

wtf i love netflix now

Castlevania 1 is really fun and really hard and you shouldn't skip it. Skip C2 though. Not worth your time.

youtube.com/watch?v=hgjh3mOF9K0

Around 18 minutes in

For Classicvania, start with the original or Adventure ReBirth on WiiWare.
For Metroidvania, always start with Symphony of the Night.

SotN is so good. I first played it two years ago with low expectations because I thought it was just something that Sonybros hyped to hell and back like Final Fantasy VII. I was wrong.

Thanks. Not sure how that black guy feels about it.

out of all Obata's designs, thii one is the best

I disagree

Trevor and Sypha get married right? I wonder if they're going to do that in the Netflix show?

They'll use the Conan design, but there's honestly nothing wrong with Kojima's design.

SYpha will turn out to be a lesbian or something

if they're still adapting C3 in season 2 they better include Grant in this

Sypha and Trevor's union is the foundation for all the famous Belmonts. Minus Leon.

Stop being retarded.

Definitely do not skip the NES/SNES era Castlevania games, those are some of the best in the series.

I'd say Super Castlevania IV (SNES) is a good starting point for the linear-style Castlevania games, it gives you a lot of control over your whip and jumping while still being fairly challenging. If you enjoy that then you could also try out Castlevania (NES), Castlevania III (NES), Rondo of Blood (TurboGrafx-16, there's also a PSP remake but I haven't played it so I'm not sure how good it is), Bloodlines (Genesis) and The Adventure ReBirth (Wiiware remake of the first Gameboy title). I personally think that Castlevania II (NES) is a decent concept but horribly flawed, you could also give that a try although some parts are just bullshit and you may be better off playing with a guide.

As for the Metroid-style Castlevania games, start with Symphony of the Night (PS1). It's pretty easy and it was the first Metroid-style Castlevania game to be released so it was the starting point for a lot of people. If you enjoy it then try out all the GBA and DS games.

I'd personally recommend not bothering with the 3D Castlevania games (N64, PS2, Lords of Shadow) but feel free to try them out if you're curious.
