Modern remake is worse than the original

>modern remake is worse than the original

What are some actual good video game remakes besides REmake?

Attached: Monkey-island-comparison.jpg (300x300, 100K)

Cave Story+ wasn't bad but didn't add much
SM64DS is by most measures breddy gud
Wind Waker HD, too

>REmake
>good

Ruins the art style and atmosphere

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1920x1080, 140K)

You are a legit retard

Attached: 1521955771840.png (645x729, 54K)

Lunar.

But really only the first one. Eternal Blue's remake was less dramatic of an upgrade and actually a downgrade in some ways.

Attached: Lunar-SSSC-ad.jpg (1193x1583, 1.03M)

You can switch back to the original in that game.

gamecube metal gear solid

>REMake isn't good
It's one of the few remakes that are actually great and extend massively to the original

The best is still to play both.

I really like the monkey island remaster, I like how you can switch between the new and old style, more remasters should have this option. This and the halo remaster are the only ones I can think of that do this.

>DUDE DARK AND GRITTY, NO COLOR EXCEPT GRAY ALLOWED

retards

Castlevania Adventure Rebirth

You can switch between the old style and new style. literally no reason to complain

How? I played re1 when I was 6 or 7, and sure it was scary and tense, but not nearly as bax as silent hill years later. Remake still puts me on edge playing through. Atmosphere is way more intense and the sound design seems better, too.

Wind Waker HD isn't an actual remake, just a remaster with filters and a couple of conveniences added

REmake is hard to compare to the original because it went through a big genre shift. The original was a B movie. REmake is legit horror suspense.

SotC.

Does Mortal Kombat 9 count as a remake? If so, that.

didnt monkey island let you switch to the original art style though? or did they do something to it that screwed it up mechanically too?

Destiny DC.

Best post on Sup Forums. REmake is clearly the superior game, but I hate when people say not to play both. REmake is so different it might as well be a new game, and if you play RE1 first then you get a lot more out of REmake due to how they remix the puzzles in REmake.

yea, its the same as the old one

monkey 2
not kidding
also day of the tentacle

Shadow of the Colossus

Attached: 1517627696912m.jpg (1024x575, 87K)

cherry picked as fuck

Attached: BionicCommandoRearmedcover.jpg (219x262, 18K)

Grim Fandango looked REALLY good remastered.
As did Day of the Tentacle.

ZoE HD post patch. Looking forward to the new 4K version.

Attached: Silent Hill 2 HD.gif (256x368, 1.94M)

Remake looks better retard, only people that cherrypick are the autistic nostalgia fags that have the same 5 cherrypicked images

Attached: sotc_shrine.png (1600x600, 1.63M)

AssCreed 2 remaster

Attached: 1479475600501.jpg (508x676, 56K)

That comparison shows just how utilitarian animation has gotten today. No personality at all.

And you know what is sad? If REmake had been a game made in this generation a lot more retards like you would have said the same thing unironically.

The Zelda remakes/enhanced ports all look more or less a little nicer 95% of the time, make the gameplay a lot smoother and cut down on some of the headache.

Twin Snakes is an ok remake. However it's easier and removed the unique soundtrack with something nearly entirely different which I think ruins the atmosphere of the game far worse than people think some of the graphical changes to OoT/MM 3ds ruin the atmosphere.

Metroid Zero Mission and Samus Returns are entirely better than the games they were based on entirely. Graphics, music, variety, gameplay, etc. Haven't played AM2R but people hold it up there the same way.

Mortal Kombat 2011 is a reboot of the series but essentially remakes MK1-3 with 3d graphics, tons of content/secrets,story mode, extra characters. I wouldn't say it outright replaces the originals because they do play differently but it's pretty much MK Trilogy HD.

Super Mario 64DS is really fun. It's Super Mario 64 with 30 extra stars, the ability to play as Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi, a decent multiplayer mode for five minutes, and bonus minigames. I'd recommend getting it on the Wii U virtual console so you can play it on the big screen like the original.

I've played every Mega Man/X game except the Powered Up! and Maverick Hunter X remakes. Both are looked on pretty fondly and were meant to restart the series sort of. Powered Up adds a bunch of new playable characters, and remixed stages/create a stage modes. Maverick Hunter X adds a playable Vile, secrets are shuffled around, etc. Both have voice acted cutscenes and remixed music. Personally I'm not a fan of the remixed music but that's my personal bias.

I would say all of these games except Twin Snakes are worth picking up. I disagree that newer graphics ruin the atmosphere (in most cases. There's a handful of scenes I think look off but for the most part I think Sup Forums exaggerates this kind of stuff.) Generally I think most are appreciated more if you played the original first.

Attached: Metroid - Crateria.png (1920x1080, 1.09M)

He's not wrong, though. It *does* ruin the atmosphere. The original was meant to feel like a cheesy low budget horror movie, which the remake utterly annihilates by being legitimately suspenseful. The issue is whether the change is for the better.

Ocarina of Time 3D

Kirby Superstar Ultra

Samus Returns, no you can’t compare AM2R, by definition Samus Returns is better than the original Metroid 2

looking better isn't the problem though; it's that they fucked up everything else in the process. graphics at the expense of other things are not worth it.

The only reason to play the Monkey Island remasters is to hear Dominic and Earl Boen reprise their roles, because the actual 'remastered' part look awful and the music is legit worse than the bleeps and blaps of the iMuse and if you want to play the originals they're easy to run on ScummVM

>dude art style, dude atmosphere

Stfu

That batman game and FFX. Masterful remasters that acknowledged that the details and careful character design doesn't matter; only more polygons matters.

>Super Mario 64DS is really fun. It's Super Mario 64 with 30 extra stars

There's a romhack for SM64 that adds all of the extra content, but lets you keep the proper controls.

A fine choice. Although I'm not much of a fan of the game to begin with, but it's a fantastic remake.

lol you're insane. I've beat both the original and the remake. The only real differences are the graphics, which are great.

Attached: 1520293712793.png (315x311, 52K)

I'm glad to see they gave him a redpilled haircut

That's pretty cool, got a link? I never had an issue with the dpad on the DS though.

You can play the original in the same game though?
There’s even a patch to run the voices in retromode. (A core feature in 2)

Simon the Sorcerer 1&2 are getting ”anniversary remakes” in 3 days with the same thing, terrible filter graphics with QoL changes and optional retro settings to run the good graphics/music/controls.

Tactics Ogre PSP is a really good remake

It has a few unfortunate new mechanics like classes being leveled rather than characters and the absolute INSANITY that is the crafting system that I refuse to believe anyone playtested but otherwise it's great

Yakuza Kiwami is bretty gud desu

I thought it was good. It even includes the original game. More remakes should really do that.

Attached: Metroid-zero-mission-cover-artwork-gba.jpg (1200x1204, 696K)

Silver Star's remake is a vast improvement, but a good part of the artstyle was lost to make it more colorful. I do like the increased difficulty too. Eternal Blue changed enough that it is still worth playing even if for the kiss at the end, but the original is still superior. Those pixel cutscenes still make me rock hard to this day.

Attached: 1484884737449.jpg (454x3960, 567K)

This one is good too also kirby isn't fucking pissed on the box art.

Attached: KSSU_Boxart.png (400x357, 342K)

Super Mario 64 DS 64 ?

Not really, they just unfucked Working Designs' changes to the gameplay.

Monkey Island 2

Perfect remake right here

Attached: header.jpg?t=1491301451.jpg (460x215, 39K)

*does a backflip*

the DS dpad is fucking perfect I dunno what you're on about, and if you don't like it just play it on 3ds then

>Cave Story+ wasn’t bad
OH YEAH DUDE KOOL AID MAN LMAO

Big fan of Zero Mission, improved so much on the original plus allowing you to muddle through the original yourself is p great

I really love this, how did you feel about the new modes?

You must be referring to the PSP remake, the one with the trivial difficulty? He was talking about the Sega CD version vs the PS1 version.

the original was based on mel gibson, now that is know that he hate the jews, they have to change him for a faggot.

based Gibson

>puzzles are easier
>changes some puzzles just for the sake of making them different and in the process breaks the logic (i.e. getting the diary in the shrine of the mother)
>added a shit ton of wall turkey secret shit in a game where hitting the wrong wall fucking electrocutes you
>Got rid of super faithful msx artstyle in favor of ok but not outstanding higher res pixel art.

I'm going to be that guy that says OoT 3d is pretty good, I know a lot of people get mad about the lighting changes but I don't care about that shit myself

Now on that note, MM3D fucking makes me super mad. Adding a necessary "USE YOUR BOW TO DEFEAT" pissed me off, not to mention how much I hate the new Twinmold Fight, even though yeah it actually requires some effort instead of just smashing around your sword you can actually get screwed out of winning the fight a lot easier

Attached: ocarina-of-time-vs-majoras-mask.jpg (630x400, 50K)

fuck off braindead moron

sadly, when I first played it, I was so happy to see an updated version of the game that I kind of ignored inconsistencies in the cutscenes. watching them again, fucking christ, they are so bad

Yup.
So glad some based user made a hair mod for m1 to switch guybrush's hair with m2 hair.
Still though, the only really great addition was the voice acting of guybrush.
Otherwise, just play the originals.

>still not playable on a big screen

Why even bother?

nostalfags just hate anything new and since the games are actually good they have to scrape from the bottom of the barrel shitting about minor design changes and claiming muh atmosphere ruined meme

Say what you want about balance, graphics and steaks, Rebirth was good, especially performance.

Attached: BweHiA4CEAA6w3u.png (600x600, 346K)

i miss the old simpsons animation

are any of those games good? I been on the verge of trying them, which one should I try first?

the fuck you talking?! REmake is awesome, just replayed it. Sure, nostalgia is a big factor but when it comes to remakes, this one is the best.

That's true but being more stable than a flash game is not an achievement.

holy shit this right here nigga

>SM64DS is by most measures breddy gud
No... No.

Wut?
Guybrush is a little blonde kid.

*preserves the artist's intent while attempting to make the twist more obvious to the player*

I blame the downfall of 2D on how lazy and out-sourced the process has become.
I'm glad people are starting to enjoy anime more.

>I'm glad people are starting to enjoy anime more.
with their powerpoint style animation?

Does it count if nobody has played the original?
Is so then Silver Case/25th Ward

Attached: 476650_20170701235333_1.png (1920x1080, 137K)

They always outsourced animation since at least the 80s. They just shrunk their budgets over the years.

>want to play with the original art because the remake is hideous
>also want the voice acting though
They really fucked up with these.

This
Remakes that dont allow you to mix and match what's old and new are shit.
See which allows you to switch everything from visuals to soundtrack

I mean, it legitimately adds quite a few features that are actually quite good and makes the game look quite a bit better for the most part (do not post the fucking scuttlebug and dinosaur comparison). It's just that it gets the controls so braindead wrong that the game is virtually unplayable.

Sonic 1, 2 and CD by Taxman and Stealth.

>Mobile controls.
Into the trash it goes.

>we live in a world where RE and REmake can't both be good

Attached: 1500451308601.png (169x181, 3K)

Attached: wonderboy-comparison[1].jpg (1160x331, 220K)

>tfw switching between artstyles with the push of a button

Shit rules.

Age of Empires Definitive Edition

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 325K)

This is the only good answer ITT

>doesn't realize that Twin Snakes is Raiden replaying the Shadow Moses incident in VR
Brainlet

It's how Otacon tells the story to other people, like one of his favorite animes.

WRONG

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 11K)

A lot of people forget it's a remake of the first Starfox with new shit added.

Attached: TM_WiiUVC_StarFox64.jpg (438x370, 52K)

>have to scrape from the bottom of the barrel shitting about minor design changes

I like the remakes but I'm still mad they changed the ocarina songs to x,y,l,r when the 3DS has a D-Pad that they could've used to keep the songs i memorized intact.

it feels more like a reimaging over a remake

Monkey Island remaster also has ridiculously improved UI and plays way faster, as well as having voice acting.
