I can imagine it something like Cloud's Limit Break or maybe Lucario's aura, where the extra ink - either from a special or a passive result of a move/moves - makes their moves stronger/changes some properties.
That said, I'd be pleasantly surprised if they put more thought into the new characters, the way they did with a lot of the Smash4 DLC. Everyone had interesting mechanics and thought put into them.
