Which one is better and why?
AM2R vs Samus Returns
Both are mediocre.
inb4 Metroid 2 is a horror game
gotta check that shit taste, user
I'm not the one who likes subpar Metroid games. I get the fanbase was desperate 3new content but that doesn't make those two good.
SR
bump
AM2R
amr2 has better world and enemies
sr has better gameplay
AM2R. Tighter controls, 60fps, faster combat, no "lol come back here for a missile upgrade after you get this thing 95% into the game" points.
It's always this game vs this game, just enjoy your fucking games, you autistic faggots.
AM2R, but SR is still good.
The reason why I say AM2R is better because it did a much better job of adapting the inherently flawed base that is Metroid 2, while Samus Returns tried too hard to keep adding to it, leaving it feeling padded out a good bit (to the point where it's easily 3x longer than AM2R, which isn't necessarily a positive). Plus it punishes speedrunning tactics too often and it's way too bright and colorful.
You're not forced to use the circle pad to move in AM2R so it's better by default.
You don't have to buy the old, weak and shitty 3DS to play AM2R.
I get that AM2R is good and like it a lot, but does any other fanbase go around and count fan made games as official ones? At least Sonic Mania actually got the green light.
Halo fans
I'd argue if something goes above and beyond expectations, yes. The problem is it's so rare for a fan made product to rival that of the official ones, and usually those with the talent to do so know to just create their own IP in the process so they can sell a product.
This. Both are fine games in their own right. They're good for different reasons.
Vectorman.
>does any other fanbase go around and count fan made games as official ones?
Smash fanbase.
This.
Also, fuck parry systems.
that's a mod
>it's easily 3x longer than AM2R
nigga what?
A blind run takes about 7-9 hours on average, while AM2R is about 3-4. Admittedly rough math but point is SR is way more padded
I enjoyed the boss fights more in SR. I'd probably give the nod to AM2R for just moment to moment exploring and shit though.
samus returns for me
it more accurately captures the metroid 2 feeling for me, has better gameplay, and a better soundtrack. it feels like a step forward for the series while also being a throwback. only thing i liked more in am2r were the graphics, but i prefer a good atmosphere over good graphics.
am2r feels like a fan remake. the stupid bits of lore that feel very out of place in a 2d metroid, dumb bosses that feel out of place in metroid, etc. just stuff that doesnt really fit in 2d metroid. a lot of the game just feels off. the atmosphere is just killed, which you cant do in metroid. it feels like pure fanservice, and ended up being unsurprising and boring due to that.
Metroid Samus Returns was a commercial and critical flop, so AM2R
how much money did am2r make?
how well did it do with critics?
It had a massive download rate, far more than Samus Returns sold while SR has to pay teams of devs, marketers, distributers. AM2R is a passion project
>how well did it do with critics?
Easily better than SR
Enjoyed both for different reasons
Samus Returns, if only for feeling like a complete game.
Compared to the last 15% of AM2R which is just a lot of empty rooms to platform through with the odd metroid.
>2d fags vs Prime fags
>people who are triggered by any mention of Zero Suit
>now we have SR fags vs AM2R fags
It's hard to just talk about Metroid on Sup Forums these days huh?
That's some impressive delusion
>he doesn't know
SR didn't sell well
>AND critical flop
>AM2R did better with critics
You're a retard.
Are you confused?
AM2R, because it's an actual remake. Samus Returns barely even has anything in common with Metroid 2, it's more a reimagining.
Are you? I'm saying that user is delusional because he thinks SR wasn't a huge hit with critics.
>Samus Returns barely even has anything in common with Metroid 2
Probably the best thing SR has going for it.
Well, of course. It sure wouldn't be the visuals or sound.
Samus Returns. AM2R, like every other fan game, is nothing more than a glorified bootleg.
Found Iwata
>Metroid Samus Returns was a commercial and critical flop
Here we go again.
>Samus Returns barely even has anything in common with Metroid 2, it's more a reimagining.
It made the mistake of retaining the general map layout, which made the backtracking with teleport points even more clunky feeling.
But it was
Sr because of omnidirectional aiming
Fuck, you are right, it didn't even sell 1M.
So Metroid 5/Fusion 2/Dread, never? :(
>it didn't even sell 400k
FTFY
>Samus Returns barely even has anything in common with Metroid 2, it's more a reimagining
That was also the case with Zero Mission.
No, it wasn't, the game got multiple awards and is on Nintendo's best selling 3DS game in the US list like with Zero Mission.
>the game got multiple awards
Why do people hate 2D metroid so much?
They don't hate metroid, they just want to bitch about Metroid not being a thing and just not support it
Neither are all that great because they carry the baggage of being a remake of a game that's already not all that fun.
I really like SR but AM2R has the edge in variety of just about everything. I also appreciate it's attempt to bridge the about nonexistent connection between Prime and 2D. SR has better Metroid fights though.
Mother fucker, Nintendo confirmed the game sold well and there's a rumor that Dread is in development for the Switch currently but in early stages of development. Maybe you should stop believing someone who gets their information from VGChartz.
>VGChartz
>Nintendo confirmed the game sold well
No, no they didn't
>why does Sup Forums hate 2D Metroid
For the same reason they hate FPS Halo, they're contrarian faggots.
Firm sales, mother fucker
lol
No, you fence-straddling faggots, you pick one or the other or GTFO of here.
It must suck not knowing how sales work.
No one care what you think, mother fucker.
>massive download rate
all me, downloading repeatedly for no reason.
>too poor to own a 3DS in current year
AM2R
Halo sucks though
>current year
>not owning a 3ds already
They are both good for different reasons.
2D fags loved AM2R and 2.5D fags loved Samus Returns.
AM2R looks and controls much better though. That's just my opinion
Your mom sucked me off last night.
I'll never forgive AM2R for making an escape sequence scripted.
This, basically.
AM2R let you have the controls you thought most convenient and having a dedicated morph ball button was a god send. No 2D game should ever impose an analog stick on you, even with 360 aiming, and just like the rest of the 3DS library that isn't Xenoblade, SR just does nothing with the extra shoulder buttons on the n3DS.
SR's combat was very slow because every single enemy was given just enough HP to charge through your shots the first time you encounter them, making each and every encounter just: get close->wait for the enemy's attack animation->counter->shoot them. And just who thought it was a good idea to have Zeta Metroids run from you mid-fight?
I'm not one to complain about backtracking, especially on a game like Metroid where that is more or less expected, but they went overboard with the amount of things you have to come back later for, hell there are places you need the baby Metroid
>no "lol come back here for a missile upgrade after you get this thing 95% into the game" points.
AM2R still had a few items you'd need to backtrack to other areas for, and it was more efficient to wait until you could access the Queen's lair teleporter at the end of the game to go back and round them up. It's really no different from every other game since Fusion.
Both are fun and worth your time. They feel different enough to warrant playthroughs without getting bored unless you aren't keen on Metroid games. It really comes down to personal taste.
Samus Returns
