Are you supposed to throw your old hardware away?

In Japan recycling PC parts cost money.

Depends on what it is. I try to donate as much of it as I can, like slapping together hardware and peripherals to make basic Linux rigs. Super poor college kids use them for doing homework when they get off of work at crazy hours and the computer labs are closed/packed/far away/etc.

Busted shit can be "recycled" but that really means being shipped to Africa where the plastics are melted away by acid so the metals can be collected.

I'd buy one of these, not for the internals but for the case. It has aged well.

A powermac for just ¥1980? Fucking sold let's load this shit up

If it's still useful to you, why?

People do this all the time usually all the end up doing is destroying something cool and tossing it in the trash.

I've never seen a G5 case mod that doesn't look like hacked up shit.

If it does what you want and isn't falling apart, might as well keep it until it dies.

>throw away
>years go by
>buy one again because nostalgia and retro/collectors value

Not him but Google dude, even my friend did one and it looked amazing, like it was meant for the hardware.

What does it matter if it looks like hacked up shit on the inside or back? No one sees the inside or back of the case

Sht i'd buy one of those if I lived in japan and it was an intel architecture rather than powerpc. you can upgrade the shit out of them for very little.

This is the best one I've seen so far and it still looks like shit.

The insides usually aren't any better, half the case is empty space except for some shitty mATX board they half-ass into it.

I'd rather have the original hardware that was actually something worth a shit and put my shitty mATX build in one of the many clone cases companies like Lian-Li put out.

Because the entire reason people do it is for the aesthetics? Why would you strive for mediocrity?

Thats like $20, right?

Exactly what they're worth

aesethics implies shit people can see, which as I said, you can't see it, so it has no aesthetic value.

I think the word you're looking for autistics

maybe if you keep it hidden under your desk where nobody sees it, but at that point, who's the autistic one here who half-assedly destroyed something interesting for "muh aluminum feels" that nobody will give a shit about ever?

there are people who actually want these things just the way they are and gamertards just want to turn them into another pedestrian i3 shitbox that will go straight to the trash the second something that runs their games faster comes along, it's kind of disgusting really

If you take pride in your work, you give as much thought about the internals and things that people don't see.
Never mind that you've already gone through the effort to convert a case not designed for the hardware you intend to install, and the only person who will see it 99% of the time is you alone. Why shouldn't you take the extra effort to make it look good inside and out? Why did you even bother to utilize the case?

says:
no hdd, no memory, mb is shot, case is damaged, missing psu cables. so mostly for parts.

Thinking about buying one of these and doing this.
youtube.com/watch?v=jQ7Y8TOSsmw

Looks good, until you see the back or the inside. It looked like he did such a fucking half added jib. Like what the fuck man, at least put some effort into it. I'd love to get one for myself, spend a few hours modding the case and putting my current build into one, but no. These faggots buying perfectly food G5 macs and then ruining them with their shitty builds and disgusting cable management always screw everything up.

I do, I destroy the hard drives and put the parts into the garbage. Recycling or giving it away is just too much effort.

I used to hoard onto old computers and hardware but found that its just my autism talking when I get the urge to store something away because it might come in useful, but in reality I never use those parts again.

OMG I'm the same way. We should like totally date

Screw the dating lets just meet up and fuck, we can cum all over the PC parts you have in the garbage.

>that shitty chink I/O panel
>no slot covers
>painted matte fucking black
>but nothing was done to the I/O shield
>that loose hard drive that's just hanging in the case with nothing securing it down
This is the cringy half-assed shit I'm talking about, right here.

Why the fuck do people destroy G5s for these shitty mods anyway? Mac Pros are plentiful and better for the job anyway. And if you aren't a gaymer and just want the aesthetics, you can just put Windows on them and use them as-is.

I'm having trouble throwing this away.

sell it or something then
kind of want one for a meme project

Take it apart and salvage the magnets, then destroy the platters. It will never work again so you'll have to get rid of it.

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves for hoarding all this crap forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/515356-kids-hoarding-computer-parts/

I know that feel...

>8.4GB
I also have one that's 170MB
I shall keep them forever.

>best condom drive

Never know when 170.6MB will come in handy.

if it was me i would of got AIO just becuase it would be cleaner also i'd get a HDD mount and mount it upside down.

Nah, you're supposed to sell it or give it away to someone who can find a good use for it.

Only use a broken one, nothing worse than retards destroying perfectly functional out of production hardware

Yes so I can have a neat case to build some sleepers in. Also need it for old tech communication.

>Only use a broken one, nothing worse than retards destroying perfectly functional out of production hardware

No problem, it's a Mac.

Anyone else can't even be bothered to sell stuff on ebay? It just seems like a good way to cause stress and get fucked over, I could have probably made some cash on the rubbish I've thrown out recently but was too chicken for ebay as I don't know anyone IRL who has sold stuff online.

epik meme

I sold a 2.5GB Caviar for $12 a week ago, so there's obviously a market, probably for ancient load-bearing AT setups

I just shipped $1000 stuff to Amazon and let them sell it through FBA. Creating the listings were annoying but that was it.

Too lazy to lug old towers and busted 19" 5:4 monitors to best buy. I keep saying I would use an old case for a kind of sleeper build.

Athlon 4400+ ain't worth selling right? Still have some DDR, DDR2, laptop shit.

Help.

Do they ship to south america?

Never heard of that before but it still sounds like a lot of work, to be honest I just wished there was someone else in my family that has experience with selling stuff who could show me the ropes.

I mentioned it to my dad once and he just dismissed it.

I've had a dell optiplex from 1999 sitting in my room for almost a year now and I have no idea what to do with it

Leave it on the curb for collection, its junk.

install windows 2000 and host a starcraft lan party

yeah but

the case looks vaporwave as fuck, maybe I can use it for something

it has a cd drive that may be functional, it even has a diskette drive

maybe some kids will want to look at it one day

peruse Winworld/abandonia/vetusware and find some old software that interests you

still does the same shit it did when it was new

you're junk

Keep it around and put some stuff on it.

I had a mint Dimension XPS and Gateway 2000 from 1999 that I donated years ago. Regretted it instantly and miss them now.

Now I look on eBay and all I see are garbage heaps that look like they've been through a natural disaster.

Look at the comments on this eevblog video about a guy who hoarded electronic parts youtube.com/watch?v=x8nbHYOc8ns

This is why I have monthly clear outs so I don't end up like that, I know all too well what its like when you prefer junk to people. Friends stop calling and your social life vanishes.

Hoarder detected. Just because something works and is a classic it doesn't mean you should keep it, trust me my dad is a hoarder and I was well on my way to becoming one too.

The space we have reclaimed was well worth the dumpster I hired last month.

When did you last use it?

from skimming it that's a pretty neatly organized collection, not hoarding at all, why does the idea of people gaining enjoyment from something other than video games and smartphones trigger you so much?

It doesn't trigger me, but that guy clearly devoted a lot of time to his collection when he could have been out with friends and living life to the fullest.

>walking around the mall eating fried shit and watching garbage movies
>living life to the fullest

Never, it used to be in my HS's library, but they were replacing it after over a decade of loyal service so it was up for grabs

what makes you think having a hobby that isn't living vicariously through others means you don't have any friends or spend time with them? there are lots of old technology enthusiasts that participate in all kinds of social events with other like-minded and non-like-minded people, balance isn't a difficult thing to achieve if you put your mind to it

what makes your definition of "living life to the fullest" everyone else's?

why do you care about any of this anyway? you're wasting your time on Sup Forums writing walls of text about people enjoying themselves differently than you on a Friday evening instead of going out and experiencing the world or actually learning something

do you even have a picture of it?

>that guy clearly devoted a lot of time to his collection when he could have been out with friends and living life to the fullest
Yeah because it's completely impossible to do both

it's 3AM, I'm not taking a pic now

4gb HDD in my R30

>throwing ANY of your old computers/parts away
>ever
Keep it if you've got room, give it away at the very least or recycle if it's broken.

Forgot pic

what is such an old drive doing in such a new system?

> could have been out with friends and living life to the fullest
>posted on a friday night
here's your (you) I guess

i really dont know, its the top tier one aswell, this was a fucking beast back in the day
must have been replaced with something spare lying around at some point

also the r30 is from 2002 mate, its 14 years old
thats not old to some stuff but its still nowhere near new

Its Saturday afternoon m8.

Don't.
?no

P4 tech is pretty modern really, still runs modern software and is still very usable, plus there haven't really been a lot of radical changes in tech since that era

>wasting a weekend afternoon complaining about hobbies you don't like because they aren't "living life to the fullest" on a gaming kiddo sub board of an anime website

Like I said its the middle of the day here and I'm just browsing on my phone during a train ride.

>wasting your time dicking around on Sup Forums alone with your nose in a phone when you can be living your life, taking in the sights and making new friends on the train

Single core is kind of painful these days. We're spoiled.

This, try watching a youtube video on a single cored machine and watch it stutter.

I watch YouTube on my PowerBook G4 regularly.

How does it handle 480p playback?

What should I do with a 1GB Pentium 4? No GPU so games are a no-go.

>linking to a faggots video
>having some obsolete computers is now hoarding
Said like a true macfag

Flawlessly

Install the GPU driver and set the colors to at least 16bit

Install a GPU driver, use flash, use another program

>games need advanced 3d gpu to function

99,9% of them actually do
cli roguelikes and the most basic games are pretty much the only exceptions

spotted the millenial

Nothing to do with drivers, the cpu usage would jump to 100% when watching youtube both flash or html5 versions.

As soon as I installed a dual core cpu the problem went away and I could watch youtube with no stutter.

You should stop using your browser to watch videos. There's this thing called a video player. It works pretty well for you guessed it, watching videos.

wrong
the first computer i bought with my earned money had a 486DX onboard, try again

Win7 and later support hardware gpu decoding

Too much hastle, I want it to just werk.

I'm willing to bet anything that you're also a millenial.

It was and still is running windows 7, but was originally designed for XP (2005).

>no GPU
Even the shittiest onboard gpu still supports early 3D games

Yeah, pressing ctrl+c, ctrl+n, ctrl+v is so hard

Why do that when I can just watch it on the youtube page on a modern system.

Because if I can still use my old hardware I'm going to. I use my video player to watch videos on modern systems as well.

Good for you.

The fuck is wrong with you?

Dunno, I can live with a single core if I really have to, I've done so in the past, even voluntarily. I regularly used a box with the slowest commercially available P4 through a lot of 2014. It was quite alright.

My Vaio R that's my current file archiver can handle a couple PuTTY sessions, Spotify, Steam and 360/480p YouTube reasonably enough, would probably be able to do 720 if I set up my browser to just download the video and play it in a real player instead of that bloated piece of shit excuse for a web player.

Standard resolution video isn't really that intensive, it's just the garbage sites that host it that use JS/Flash for every minor unnecessary function.

Why are you getting aggressive? Like I said most people don't want to mess around with alternate methods to watch a simple youtube video.

>do x
>ask why
>get answer
>cocky response
You're the one that asked, then you were an ass when I answered your question.

>99,9% of them actually do
You must be 18 years of age or older to browse Sup Forums.
