i got a hand me down optiplex 990 with two HDD in it, i put them in raid 0 with the intel RST driver that was on the machine, now i wanna stick Linux Mint on one of the hard drives. would this fuck up the raid?

Yes

ah,
how so would it fuck up the raid?

it wouldn't..
but you shouldn't put an OS on a raid, usually. especially the raid0.. if either one of those dies rip your os & everything else

oh, well crap.
i dont wanna go through the rigamaroll if installing drivers on the hdds.

raid1 them then if 1 drive dies the other takes over

and your setups will not die

or at least back the raid0 up to a different drive

and dubs
>checked

You have to migrate your raid to single drive first so you can use the second one for linux.

im going to go see what the options are in the pre OS loading raid config, but i installed everything to one drive as far as i know.

ideally just partition one of the drives and put the OS on there and then raid0 the majority of that drive with the full of the other drive, this is really stupid but sounds like what you want to do lol

but they're already in RAID0. and i cant delete it without kissing the OS already installed goodbye

im on the moble version of the tread on my phone so i can keep u guys posted.

there wasnt much in terms of options that didn't want to kick out my data, maybe il mess around with partitions.

That won't help you. Raid0 spans all data across both drives.

well then, there isnt much i can do,

this. you'll need a third drive to get the data off before partition

well, this is a bit of a brick wall.

1) make a system image to an external drive using Acronis,
2) dismantle the raid,
3) restore the image to a single hard drive,
4) do with the second one as you please.

Yes, it's a bit of work.

would a thumb drive work? i have a 16 gig one lying around

If it's gonna fit on that, sure, why not.

what version of acronis?

You can't be serious.

found it nmv.
