q6700 if you can, 2 magnitudes greater

Of course. Pentium D beats all

>tfw you're bored with tech

I think you're bored with consumerism, learn to enjoy what you have user

fuck forgot the pic

haha, look at this dumb nigger

they sell q9300 45nm wolfdales on ebay for 20$ free shipping

these old pieces of shit are better than modern top tier AMDs

no, i will not accept the current shit. There has not been a revolution in the industry since the personal computer

Then you have a consumerist attitude, there's always new things for a single human being - dig down inside the machines you have, learn about the kernel, learn about electronics etc etc.

Learn to love technology but hate consumerism user, that's my suggestion.

You could invent an operating system that would make the Core 2 Duo enough again.

>tfw I'm rocking a c2d and 4 jiggerbites of ram and everything works fine

I think you'll enjoy it, I've come to appreciate it even though I'm not very good at it, it basically gives you the ability to know more about everything you own which is always good isn't it?!

Curiosity man

why aren't you good at it?
tell me exactly what you don't understand

really think about what i just told you, and how to explain your difficulties

>these old pieces of shit are better than modern top tier AMDs
source needed

You're supposed to use the athlon 64 X2 6400+ you shit.

that thumbnail makes it look like he has a pompadour

I had one of those. I bent the pins on it.

I think it's mostly lack of time and lack of dedication - I have okay-ish tools but I'm in my fourth year at uni and it's a different subject (Software engineering).

Really my problem is I need to dedicate more time to electronics in general and then I'll find reasons to enjoy it - same thing that happened with Linux actually (I now only use Linux)

I have a feeling I'll get the hang of it but I just need to put time into it, which I can't seem to do. I hope that's an answer you'll accept, I mean it's not a big problem when I think of it.

A C2D would do fine with Linux and Xfce, but even casual web surfing will cause the CPU fan to kick on at high speed frequently. Going from C2D to C2Q was such a huge difference. Now we go from an old ass i5-2500 to a Haswell i5 and the only difference is TDP.

ah, haha
you're young

yeah man, best way is to go balls deep with plenty of free time in your life.
sucks that you're doing the whole wage slave routine and going down that route

ok

I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the wave slage thing though, main reason I went to uni was to learn more - also the diploma is nice but yeah.

I can't say I've enjoyed working day jobs so far. Thanks for the advice though, appreciate it

So you're saying if I install Xfeces instead of GNOME my computer would quit cutting out due to overheating while playing a basic flash game while listening to music and letting newer music encode? Or should I be looking for pennies to upgrade to the x220?

C2D is fine for browsing Sup Forums and playing 720p videos.
Let's be honest you weebs don't need much else.

>flash game

E8400 here, handles everything fine.

Not running windows helps.

So is there anywhere else on the internet where I can play an active vibrant game of mafia with a twist?

1080p is nice
deinterlacing too

Which c2d? E8400 here, 1080p runs fine

Try deinterlacing.

I'd rather not

Tell that to the Russians

pcworld.com/article/3040528/computers/this-russian-all-in-one-desktop-is-just-weird-enough-to-be-interesting.html

my nigga i got an e8400 too

motherfucker heats up hot tho i gotta replace my thermal paste i bet its dryer than the sierra desert

duo 2 cuo till I die

I got an Intel cooler with the copper core. Fucker barely heats up compared to before. Tempted to oc, but that'll just kill it faster.

intel btfo

thats the one whose logo has the dropped 'e' below all other letters right?

cuck i (you)ed myself like a retard fuck

still enough you cucklord

I use a high end core2quad

Does okay.
Kinda hoping Zen never comes out so I never need to upgrade.

Why does that wallpaper spell 'crowd' in hiragana?

once my pc dies i quit
i already paid 60e for that 2500k

>mfw I can still use a Pentium 4 with Windows productively in 2016 and barely give a fuck

Well... I changed from a Dual Core T4400 to a Haswell i7 last year. And I don't play games.

Maybe on 2025 I will buy a new pc

>is this the heatsink?

idk i dont speak wapanese i found it on 9gag.

thats a good idea we should all play a game where we use the same pc until its cpu/mobo dies then we an hero

Probably some idiot trying to write cloud

Upgraded from this overheating slow piece of shit to an i7-6700K/DDR4. Best decision ever.

I'm still rocking a Core 2 Quad.

still going strong

That's like getting off of a bicycle and hopping into a GTR.

No shit.

>tfw want to upgrade to a top end Core 2 Quad
>all I have is a shitty entry level laptop

I want some of that delicious give-away-PC performance.
Just trying to figure out which GPU won't get bottlenecked to hell with a C2Q. Any suggestions?

And it feels damn good too. Point I'm trying to make is OP should stop wasting his time with c2d and get something better. The lag and heat and freezes were driving me nuts. I was planning to make a fileserver with that shit but tossed it in the attic.

>mug suggestions
just buy a cheap gpu and more ram until you can upgrade, put an ssd in there if you can you should be able to all 3 for under 100$ and it'll make that PC 2-3x as good it'll be like brand new

>tfw almost

>muh*
>laptop

shit you might have to switch that laptop to a case to add a gpu/ssd (not ram tho), didn't see you were using a laptop.

why are you watching interlaced video in the first place?

>eight core
Kek, now show me a single application besides a benchmark program that makes use of 8 cores. AMD has the worst single core performance out there.

Why would you use old inefficient tech when even the most basic modern Intel will have more power and cost less electricity in the long term?

> back to Sup Forums

He's never going to respond because all AMD fags can do is post eight core benchmarks and ignore the fact that their shit cannot run anything on par with cheaper intels that also run cooler.

>There has not been a revolution in the industry since the personal computer
I think you're wrong my friend ;)

because it would barely save any money let alone enough to be worth the upfront cost and wasted time spent on backups and moving data over to the new system?

by the time a modern chip starts even nearing the halfway mark of "paying itself off" you'll be grilling him as to why he's using it and tell him to waste a grand on another one to save another dollar a month if that

anandtech.com/bench/product/102?vs=89

>tfw integrated graphics

>a grand
You missed the part where I said most basic. It's objectively cheaper in the long term to switch.

My Core2Duo laptop still runs totally fine. Way better than whatever consumer shit people buy in stores today.

that would be nice and all of basic hardware wasn't total garbage and still not worth the effort, unless my needs were absolutely performance-centric you couldn't pay me to dump high-end core2 gear for some piece of low quality Walmart trash just to save five dollars a month

Upgrade every 2 years and save on electricity bills!

ikr muh gaymes

nothing wrong with integrated, those shitty thing could provide like 2 or more external display and play h264 smoothly. Except youre doing some heavy task like solidworks/3d/maya etc.

ThinkPad W700 user here with Core 2 Extreme X9100 CPU. Still fine for everything that I do.

TFW you upgraded from Core 2 to Core Quad for fucking nickels by buying used from some guy who recycles corporate workstations.

FeelsCheapskateGoodMan

No, Flash + encoding music is pretty heavy load for an old laptop. The GNOME devs may be RAM-wasting retards, but they're not CPU-wasting ones. It won't help.

T9300 werks for me.

core 2 duo laptop CPUs are still able to compete with cheap-ass celerons and atoms. if you don't give a shit about battery life.

>tfw I've been using a single-core 1.6GHz CPU less than half a year ago
Core 2 Duo was a beast compared to that thing.

>Was only into fast computer parts because they played games better
>Don't even like video games much anymore

They have computers at the homeless shelter now? Internet too? Damn.

Tfw i only use the pc like a normal person and EVEN THEN my Pentium B940 2.0GHz is not enough.
Youtube tabs leech all my processings. Casually opening 30tabs for music and bam! 90% cpu usage
REEE

You're not on any private trackers, are you?

I had that feel for a moment till a friend told me about graphic cards. Put a cheap graphic card into the empty slot on my mother board. Then boom, it runs again even better then before.

How is overheating normal
Oh wait,
>chinkpad

I still use it fine on my Mac

Use a Q6600, overclock it at least to 3 GHz.

Set FSB and RAM speed to 1:1 (like 333/667) to achieve better stability (not sure if it's actually true)

Disable Spread Spectrum, check Vdroop settings for stability.

Add a powerful GPU and at least 4 GiB of RAM and you'll have a nice setup.

>tfw 16gb ram and 2 hard drives aren't enough

Just upgraded to 6402p from E8400 can't lie the difference is there. And the E8400 was 4050mhz. The only sad part is cant use my tower cooler because i use tower cooler that bend the cheap ass mobo i bought with in turn make so that the socket press the cpu in the wrong way and pcie slot dont work, so i use the fucking box cooler. but it is not that bad i stress that bitch and could not get hotter that 56c, way cooler than the old one.

E8400 can still handle any regular modern task with ease. Can confirm.

Iirc you can still game at 60fps on a q6600.

Stop downloading everything off nyaa.
