Ever since the latest cumulative Windows 10 update, the start menu takes like 2 seconds to open up. This is clearly some botnet shit sending statistics to Microsoft's servers about how I use my start menu.
Recommend a less cucked OS please (preferably Linux and not Gentoo)
Will look into this. Need to be able to run Wine or some translation layer for Ableton as I do a lot of work in audio. Is there any alternatives to lightroom in Linux?
Benjamin Clark
Get classic shell or buy a proper PC.
Daniel Bennett
>takes 2 seconds to open up You just have a shitty computer. Mine don't even take a fraction of a second
Justin Sanders
>950 Pro NVMe SSD >Core i7-6700k >16GB DDR4-2400
Just had the update on my PC and my lappy (XPS 15) and they're experiencing the same issue.
Austin Adams
Just use Classic Shell. I mean it's not going to solve Window's horrific telemetry spying but at least you will have a functional Start Menu.
Contacts a microsoft search server everytime i open up my menu
fucking why
David Carter
You probably have cortana set to search the web too which uses bing
Luis Rodriguez
Cortana is disabled, unless that's the issue.
Leo Williams
You can't disable her
Connor Johnson
Linux is a kernel and Gentoo is a distribution, faggot.
Ryder Phillips
No issue on my end boss. Try using fiddler and see what's being sent out when you open it.
Camden Evans
Well, she isn't functional at least. My search window doesn't pop up. Maybe it's a timeout issue.
John Fisher
>My search window doesn't pop up Sounds like you killed her completely, did you change the name of her folder and then end her in task manager by any chance?
Ethan Gomez
Debian + GNOME 3
It just werks
Eli Perry
Yeah she's not even running in the background or anything.
Luis Rogers
Well that explains why your start takes so long to load, it tries to start up Cortana so you could use the search but it fails and then re-opens without it.
Camden Wood
well FUCK
Anthony Richardson
Manjaro werks out of the box that comes preinstalled with anything you will ever need out of the box (expect wine: run yaourt -S wine in terminal)
Thomas Peterson
windows 7 Xubuntu
Jaxson Anderson
But also if you go to lunix. yo wont have that software...
alternati ves for audio and steam is on it. the the rest ?
Eli Cook
You should really try Enterprise LTSB
it comes without cortana period edge and all other lboat apps etc. Works great.
remove tiles (disable live tiles), disable internet search, Cortana assistant Cortana will still run in the background, but it won't be pestering the boot disk as much every time you open Start
Camden Stewart
This, switched to Fedora, best thing ever.
Austin Smith
So it's just a core windows lite distro? That sounds dope.
Daniel Scott
This. Classic shell is a godsend. So much faster
Tyler Stewart
>sfc /scannow just fixed it
Jacob Wilson
Sorry for asking this How do you pirate that version of Windows after installing? I have a Pro license, but fuck it
Hunter Peterson
What version am I going for here?
Mason Ramirez
>that disgusting font rendering Why cleartype is so shit?
Asher Watson
yeah. no ortana at all an dnot in background. comes clean as windows 7. it's much better. no store though. not sure how to get the store but it also doesn't come with it.
Chase Thompson
The WIndows Loader works with it. I haven't had any troubles on multiple machines or installs.
The most recent. LTSb gets less updates I am pretty sure. but grab the most recent you see. It may be february for LTSB
I'll help seed. i snagged one last night
Jayden Davis

Nolan Ortiz
>cortana period edge and all other lboat apps etc Bullshit, retard
Charles Williams
The magnet links seem to be inactive for now. Generation has an ISO with all individual updates until April in all languages. I'm going to try it out.
Adrian Gutierrez
>not using mtk
nice memes
Jeremiah Martinez
darktable, but i doubt nearly as good
Jeremiah Mitchell
Slackware
Hudson Hill
Yeah you can.
Carter Roberts
You can't, you can only "remove" her but then you wouldn't be able to search your system, you'd have to use some 3rd party search.
Gabriel Gonzalez
>using pirated custom isos lel
Austin Cook
Get TinyWall and configure your built-in firewall.
Leo Young
You can try Antergos.
Aaron Perry
Uh I never said to get it from there. Those are just clean 10 ISO's
Joseph Johnson
It is not bullshit. I installed it a couple weeks back. NO cortana even in background. It was like a clean Windows 7 install.
Yeah mine was slow last night I am seeding it now but i dont' see any activity. Maybe try another.
I had generation. it works but i prefer true ISO without anything. gl though Generations worked for me. Oh generation also has a LTSB on KAT. I really would get that. it's much more clean and runs better.
Camden Ramirez
Windows 10 has the best desktop environment for desktop use. East shit
Grayson Gonzalez
There is an unmodified kernel option that doesn't do post install-updates and you can select updates you wish to have installed.
These are the only things preinstalled (which I'm okay with) -
I'm going to get this installed on my laptop and see how she runs.
Jace Morgan
Either Fedora or Ubanto (or one of it's spins).
They're like the two actually functional distros in existence
Noah Howard
I had signal send issues with Ubuntu and the BIOS on my XPS. The computer wouldn't automatically turn off.
David Clark

slow as heck?
Dylan Walker
My company uses Office365 yet somehow I only got the April 2016 update today and my Outlook is totally fucking hosed. I had to uninstall and reinstall it.
I'm for rapid releases but with Microsoft's staff cuts they're making devs do QA at the same time and shit is not working.
Salty Nutella: Get your fucking shit together.
Easton Reed
it works normally now, turns out sfc /scannow repaired it.
I'm using the LTSB btw, and I really like that it doesn't come with the metro faggoty apps and is kind of what a base Windows install should be like.
You can also defer upgrades so they don't bug you all the time
Connor Green
This is exactly what I need.
Jason Rivera
can you send me a screenshot of defering updates? im on the verge of installing LTSB
Alexander Russell
...
Isaiah Carter
8.1
William Anderson
dude thats amazing, imma drop win7 ultimate and install LTSB this weekend thanks for sharing this man
Nathan Ramirez
user wtf?
Juan Martinez
You can do the same on Pro
Dominic Hernandez
LOL hey, me and you have a similar rig except I'm in dual channel. Figured the problem out though
Levi Brown
uh i just realized there was a win 10 update. will restart in a moment. i heard there are problems with some games? have you heard anything about that?
I haven't had any problems with games yet. BF4/DOTA/GTA5 run perfectly fine so far. I had Cortana disabled which caused an issue with my start menu requesting information and timing out but I fixed the issue. It was unique to my particular setups.
Evan Green
> Origin > Steam > Skype > Google Chrome

Wew lad
Wyatt Thomas
Oh shit, waddup.
Jaxson Wright
install spybot anti beacon
Wyatt Hughes
Make sure you install Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB N edition because it does not have anything installed, not even a media player or a picture viewer. It's literally the Arch Linux of Windows.
post music instead of whatever the h*ck that was supposed to be
Jordan Lewis
That's my personal stuff that I do from time to time, I'm a sound engineer who works for other artists.
Camden Young
How are you enjoying it? My laptop broke the other week and I can't decide between the xps13 and the xps15
Henry Cox
It's a dream. Literally one of the best ultrabooks I've ever laid my hands on. It's overkill for everyday use, and your money is probably better spent on something more modest but I do a lot of intensive editing and mixing on the road where a lot of notebooks fall behind for me, so this machine is perfect. It also serves well for my other hobbies like photography and filming.
Jose Morgan
erase all that bullshit out of your start menu. there is nothing in my start menu except for folder paths
Leo Roberts
defering updates is a enterprise option and not limited to just LTSB
David Gray
I do photo and video editing and compile stuff so I wanted a beefy ultrabook as I also don't have space in my apartment, and I love the portability of a laptop too. Still deciding between the 15 inch and the 13.3 inch. What's the screen resolution of the 15 inch?
Samuel King
I don't have space in my apartment for a desktop*
Bentley Allen
I got the 1080p display because I felt like 4k is unnecessary at the viewing distances I use my laptop at, not to mention windows does not do scaling properly with certain applications that don't support it. In my mind, I justified it with battery life assuming a 1080 wouldn't need to be driven as much by the GPU and thus saving battery life - I doubt that's the case but it was another point I considered before buying the laptop. Depends on what you want really, but personally I don't think I would have benefited much from having a 4k display in anyway.
Angel Hernandez
I'm also gonna put Linux on it. Not quite sure how well scaling is gonna be, but I'll roll with it.
Jack Richardson
Scaling in Linux is much better. relatively speaking.
William Sullivan
yeah but it's a feature that I like so I mentioned it
Hudson Martinez
Oh awesome. My last display was only 1600x900, so I couldn't tell. That's awesome thanks :)
bitwig is basically ableton except it runs natively under linux. look into that otherwise yes ableton runs fine in wine
Grayson Anderson
Ableton itself is shit, but comparing Bitwig to Ableton is like telling a designer to move to GIMP because it's 'just as good' and 'basically the same' as Photoshop.
Luke Evans
what does ableton have that bitwig doesnt have? ive only used bitwig
