/vr/ - Virtual Reality General

what do you think about this guys?
indiegogo.com/projects/vicovr-full-body-mobile-vr-gaming-system
hope it's not fake. Kinect-like device but in VR, nice if there will be more multiplayer games not for kids (like robot fighting and smth better) and some cool 3D stuff with hands and fingers maybe

saw a lot of demos, people tried it and looked like it was fun. I guess there will be good games soon

I think to contribute, wanna try this. hope it won't be glitchy

ANYONE TRIED

This guy youtu.be/dXxTaiRhceg?t=2m12s

can you dance with this thing?

Any point in getting VR now, or is it still crap?

technically yes %) youtube.com/watch?v=iOuALfpVR00

Carmack, Google, and HTC are all working on inside out tracking for mobile. I wouldn't bother.

But Oculus use outside tracking...

For the Rift. Carmack is working in their mobile division.

Cool!

Looks pretty nice. Cool videos related, company is CES resident. I contributed lol)

Finally found a legitimate use for VR: changing how my environment looks. When you live in a small windowless room for most of the day then it sounds like a dream.

For some cases outside tracking is better. Inside out devices don't see your hands and body all time and you should look to you hands to do some gesture. Also, those devices will be much more expensive. Only real but big advantage of them is non-casual PC games

WHATS CHEAPEST IN UK?
PHONE CASES ARE NOT HEADSETS

LOL'D

I am having a good time with my Vive..so is everyone who tries it. Just got my 1st porn dl last night. Shit just got better indeed. Pretty fucking surreal. All they need to do is improve on the screens a bit and it will be freakin huge. I am sure they are working on reducing the pixel size. That and lack of good general content are it's only inhibitors in my opinion. I know some that would buy it just for the porn once they try it.

The cases where you can have outside tracking would be better served by a dedicated setup like the Vive or Rift, not for mobile.

Just look at what can be done with Hololens
youtube.com/watch?v=BC1k_18JUDk

With wide enough FoV cameras hand tracking should be no issue and that's all you really need for games right now.

>lack of good general content
Which is stupid. It should be viable out of the box with everything already. No one wants to recreate content for every new device.

...

what exactly are you trying to say there about the holo lens?

oh my god

The possibilities are much greater with inside out tracking than with outside. Should be obvious after watching the video. Think how The Void works.

>full body vr
>wireless controller included
nice try guy. this gimmick is DOA. only hope is OSVR and that someone decides to start making games for these eye cancer headsets. new devices with nobody to develop anything for them. such wasted potential.

What are these chairs called? The kind with simulated movement for games. Or like you might see in a theater.

This is what I want for vr- especially in flight sims.

i've used a holo lens. it doesn't really work that well, and "outside" tracking (as you put it?) is far superior for any given experience at this time, and probably for the next 5+ years.

it's a $3,000 kinect with some extra software at the moment. talking about "possibilities" without context of what is feasible with actual tangible technology is silly.

>is far superior for any given experience at this time, and probably for the next 5+ years.

Based on what? Kinect? Vive? Problem with this tech is you're limited to a room. What's the point for developing this for mobile when you can use a device working for PC since you're limited to a single space anyway?

My point was inside out tracking is superior for mobile devices because you're completely untethered. Having outside tracking tethers you again. If you can't see the possibilities from a 100% untethered experience then I don't know what to tell you. And obviously making the comparison now is silly, inside out tracking isn't solved yet, it's still something very much in progress.

I just got my Vive today and it's fucking incredible. I had used a good friend's for a while so I'm past the "Wow, it's REALLY in front of me" phase. Lots of really intuitive and fun games, and general productivity seems pretty nice. Just gotta wait for software to come along and adapt.

That is unrealistic. People have operated in a 2d, flat screen delivery of their digital info intake up until now, with the availability of these devices and their sibling tech this changes that and creates a more immersive, yet also isolating environment to operate in. . Phone VR(cardboard,gear..etc)is the most logical mass adoption method, then it will pull some to scale up, and then grow from there. But being in a vr env takes some getting used too and some things need to be adapted better which is a fact.

But hey, if you don't have a pair of tits at home to play with. A 3d set you can have literally in your face anytime you want is pretty cool thing itself.

Just taking a shot in the dark here, user. But I think they might be called "Sim Xperience" chairs.

> two hands
> one option wireless controller
so it's like sword simulator or something

"virtual reality" will amount to nothing more than a bunch of gimmicky Nintendo Wii games, that you will play twice and never pick it up again.

Yeah ok

How is that not Wii gimmickware?

What isn't a gimmick to you? Is shooting at a gun range a gimmick because it isn't real people?

im pretty sure that if i had a system that could consistently and accurately let me aim and fire a gun, i would not use it for only 2 days. i would not see why i would go back to keyboard and mouse instead. i dont understand your line of thinking. do you think technology is unable to evolve or something? or are you just another mad person because your poor? going with the latter.

Have a Gear vr, been using it for a month or two, ama

>GTA V
>VR
I have a mighty need.

>oculus_rift_sex_tohou.webm
So I need to buy an Oculus Rift right now why is the wait list so long?

That's literally just a dumb rail shooter.

how many games are there for this toy?

It's a GTA V mod actually

you can even 3d scan your room youtube.com/watch?v=nX7kLXv65kU
