I'm installing my first Linux and I chosen Arch, it's a fucking pain in the ass.

>pain in the ass to read a wiki
Stop here, stay on Windows.

...

You can install linux mint after watching a 5 minute howto on youtube.
Nice going if you get through it though.

I reccomend you to buy a New iMac, its simple and easy to use.

I'm reading the wiki atm, but as I said, it's my first Linux

Linux or not, it's a list of instructions, like how to build an ikea desk.

You'll need some wallpaper.

Yeah, I know it's simple, but I just don't know how to set it up correctly, I'm feeling useless right now desu

>he fell for the timesink OS meme

Actually, this is the first time seeing this image, I picked Arch because I searched it on Google and I liked it.

Meme

Your wiki

Not the easiest distro to install for a noob.
Good luck, but don't let failure turn you into a bitter loser.
bitter
loser

Ok, so what you suggest for a minimalist Linux distribution that is not time consuming for installing?

>I'm installing my first Linux and I chosen Arch

troll thread, move along.

No it's not, I'm not joking, I just liked the style, but I didn't know how hard it is to install.

Best there is, fuckton better than your piece of shit wiki

I tried arch when I was distro hopping. It didn't offer anything over other minimal distros. The user base is atrocious though

>RMS
>Gentoo
Ah another newfag

There's 87 different linux programs for ripping a cd. You haven't even tried one yet. Try a few before you decide which you prefer. Don't worry about minimalist, just think about easy.
mint, opensuse, or something that ends in buntu would be a good start.

>I just liked the style

You can literally make any distro look like anything. You can make arch look like Ubuntu, you can make Ubuntu look like this pic. Just install the DE and Wm you want and customize it

It's a meme, you dip

Yeah your whole post was a meme

I used Arch for years and luv it.
Part of the obnoxious user base.

Fedora, Lubuntu, or OpenSUSE

>obnoxious user base.
There are more anti arch threads right now in Sup Forums than pro arch posts

Since prajeets have infested fedora (completely) and ubuntu we get just as much shilling as windows 10.

...

An incompetent man quarrels with his own tools

...

...

>buttmad archfag starts spamming

Every fucking time

Thanks for the help and not for bragging about Arch. I appreciate it.

...

...

For things like this I like Arch, the style is awesome, and there must be a reason for choosing Arch over any other distro for ricing it.

...

There absolutely is not.

See and It's just Archfags tend to have autism and a lot of free time, so they make these themes. These people do NOT use their computer for anything but anime and Web browsing

Probably the same guy.
Trying hard to get his obnoxious user base meme established.

...

So, what do I do first?

Arch user here. It's a very user friendly distro once you got past the installation,
unlike debian where you don't get firefox until you enable a repo and update your system

...

Is this what ubuntufags really believe? I got my Arch system up and running in an hour and it takes no maintenance besides running Pacman -Syu every week.

>in an hour
dude what
Just use the architect installer 10 mins at max if you use a proper DE

Can I ask what is pacman and syu?

...

Install Fedora, openSUSE, or Ubuntu. They're all great.

Then go to r/unixporn, deviantart, or dotshare and find something cool. Download the wm and de that they use use copy their config files

Don't let that put you off linux entirely. Arch is made for advanced users, and is complicated because of the nature of the OS. The philosophy behind arch is to give the user complete control over the system. Nothing happens unless you tell it to. It's great for people who like that level of control over their system, but for most people (especially if it's your first experience with linux) it's needelessly complicated. I would recommend Ubuntu if you've never used linux before, and if you like it and want to learn more, you should switch to debian.

Install some other distro so that you just familiarize yourself with the terminal. You're most likely are making little mistakes just because you never used a terminal

This stuff is pretty obviously bullshit, and nobody really buys it, so let's direct our butthurt at the Arch userbase instead.

...

What would you recommend me over those 3?

pacman is a package manager like apt
Syu is an update argument.

For instance you want to update system and install VLC

Arch:
#pacman -Syu vlc

Ubuntu:
#apt-get update && apt-get install vlc (I rarely used ubuntu so I may be wrong)

...

why do people keep posting this? i installed arch on both my computers and my week is still the second one

Ubuntu. It probably has the largest community so it will be easy for you to find people to help you

And what version, I heard that the latest is bullshit

Ubuntu has GUI tools for handling updates and installing packages. He doesn't need to learn the command line tools

...

You can install a full desktop DE, with all your applications in one shot. Then install different window managers and try them. Simple as logging out, making a selection, and logging back in.

So does Arch. It depends on your desktop environment

The newest is LTS, it should be fine.

...

>Protip
XFS installation of lubuntu is broken ootb

...

What people don't realise, after installing a proper DE, Arch is very comfy to deal with.

You don't really have to use a bare window manager if you are using Arch

...

>He doesn't need to learn the command line tools
Ahahaha no, that's a lie. Bash is a very important part of Linux experience

So... It's just like any other distro except it's harder to set up. Hence

...

>my first Linux
>chosen Arch

You're a faggot
install Manjaro
just werks

...

what DE is that? lxqt?

All strawman. Even the original author of the meme addresses that

KDE plasma

...

sagol, adnan.

Did you really think ubuntu is free of bugs?

...

>minimal
>KDE5

...

This is the desktop thread now, then?

Where did I say I am minimal?

...

...

Already burned a PC with Arch install

I'm using the OS marked in the "Typical person's life" but I get vast majority of useful help from ArchWiki (and StackExchange sites). I personally don't like the Arch way of anarchy that much but I'm grateful for the content its knowledgeable and experienced users share.

Lol, why is that desktop non-portable so fucking thin?

> For what purpose

...

dunno my friend, feels pretty comfy here.

also, this is now a desktop thread.

...

...

>This happenned twis
What are they doing, this is the only decent Arch derivative

>Xubuntu

twice*
auto correct

>Xubuntu
>Not ubuntu with a different DE

Also...
...please give me link to the artist. Obviously I can reverse Google it but it gives results from too many sites. Thx.

...

I use Arch on my personal laptop and my work laptop. Shit just works. Do it correctly once, and it's like riding a bike.
