if you want to be a good whitehat, do you need to know pretty much everything about the most commonly used programming languages?

or do you just need to use the most recent exploit kits and pretend to be a 1337 hacker along the way?

That's basically every watch thread ever on this board OP

watch autists wear them for style, not to see the time

trying to fix a popup scripting error in the foobar ncmpcpp mod I get upon startup. In the readme it says:
//Script Error
Scripting Engine Initialization Failed (Playcount Sync by marc2003, CODE: 0x80020101)
Check the console for more information (Always caused by unexcepted script error).'
The above error can be fixed by going to 'Preferences>Tools>WSH Panel Mod'
and making sure that 'Debug mode' and 'Safe mode' are unchecked.

I unchecked safe mode but there's no option for debug mode and I keep getting the error. What do?

The mouse crosser icon in XFCE, disappeared.
I can still interact normally but can't see where the crosser is.
Please help....

To be a good white had you need to be good at bash and C and at least be able to read assembly (to spot flaws in code), other then that learn a scripting language (as those are mostly used for on the fly payloads and what not.)

study networking and vms

>get a decent mobo with virt capabilties
>install a hypervisor and create 2 centos vms >then a freebsd vm to act as a router between them and your real network.
>add another computer, repeat (automate this time) the process of adding a router and two nodes between you network.
>on computer A, on one of the two centos VM's create a webserver (using a slightly outdated version of apache) and install ssh (again outdated).
>make sure you have dhcp set up on the router
>connect the two subnets with another router (simulating the internet)
>once you can view the webserver from another vm on the other computer, start attacking it.
>learn to break in in everyway, through up an outdated cms on the webserver and sql inject it, dos attack it, find a vulernability in ssh or apache and practice exploting it across the network (practice creating a botnet against the server)
>move to webserver once botnet is done, save it from destruction by the botnet by using you knowledge of the system and the botnet (this is the most important part, by this time you will no how to destroy a webserver but us white hats are the good guys and so once you create an exploit you have to create a fix for it.)

by the time you have built this lab, you will have the knowledge you need to be a decent pentester; add in a good knowledge of C and Assembly (processors in general really) and a few years of experience you'd make a good security advisor.

^this is also a fun game no matter who you are so long as you have the brains

Is it true that Android tablets are shit compared to iPads?

Is a WD Blue a good choice to use as an external HD on an enclosure? Main use is to back up my chinese porno cartoons.

bonus points if you can launch a counter attack aginst the bot

Can someone help? My Galaxy s4 recently died and I need a new phone. I've been looking at cheap options like Galaxy J3, LG G Flex 2, LG Stylo 2 (I have sprint), and I'm wondering if I'm going to be missing a lot going from a (dated)flagship phone to a cheaper phone. Should I just give in and get a note or s6?.

I've been learning java recently and I already understand the basics OO programming, when can I move on to different languages so I can start expanding on them?

All tablets are shit

/ic/ here. I want to educate myself about topics other than art, so I would like some nice Sup Forums podcasts to listen to or videos to watch. I'm looking for material that is more concept/theory oriented, rather than "how to fix your galaxy s4 101" type of stuff. I'm especially interested in transhumanism, robotics, AI and VR.

Is better to go with an older flagship phone that it is to go to a newer low/mid phone. So, S6, even a S5

Should I get a phone with a high amount of interal memory, or low internal memory and decent sized SD card? I'll be storing an 80gb FLAC music collection on it

Is twitter a good social media platform? Or do they also sell anything info they can get on you? Richard Stallman site says nothing about it.

Blue is standard HDD. No reason not to choose it.

Did you learn inheritance yet?

The amount of memory you won't make a difference for how much music you can store.

Anyway, to actually answer your question, go with something that has a mSD slot.

I went to post this on Sup Forums but Sup Forums doesn't have anything about graphics cards

I want to play the new doom and the new mirror's edge on my computer, but I need a new graphics card.
I don't know much about this kind of stuff because I don't really play video games that much

I'm not exactly rich so I can't break the bank. $250 is my budget, but I might be able to boost it to $300 if it really makes that much of a difference

what should I get

WD Blue is enough, Black if you can afford it.

Why does Amazon sometimes show prices for seemingly mundane products with prices several hundreds of thousands dollars more than their actual market value?

Yes.

GTX 970, but you should wait to get the GTX 1070 that is coming in some weeks.

Some companies that sell on Amazon use bots to set their pricing

Will I see any noticeable performance drops in moving from 4x4GB RAM with dual channel to 2x8GB RAM without dual channel?

Both my B1 and B2 RAM slots died and I need to decide whether to get new RAM and work with the two slots I have left, or keep my current RAM and replace the motherboard.

I've been held liable for the performance of an semi autistic idiot. What do I do.

I don't really agree with the comic.
Even watchmakers say that if you're buying a fancy watch just to tell the time, it's extremely dumb. You buy one because it's like a piece of art and engineering that you can wear and be proud of.

Should i spend more in the motherboard or in the screen?
>inb4 reccomending other stuff
Sadly, this is the cheapest options i have where i live.
Such life in third world countries.

>Motherboards:
>MSI Z97 PC Mate:
Cheaper ($150 USD).
No M2 Slot.
>ASUS Z97-A
More expensive ($190 USD).
M2 Slot.
Faster shipping

>Screens:
>VS248H-P
24", 2ms GTG
Moderate price ($208 USD).
>VS228H-P
21.5" 5ms GTG
Cheap but not sure if worth it ($177 USD).

Save and buy Z97-A and the VS248H-P?

I owned a mechanical watch with glow-in-the-dark hands.
Very rarely was I in a location that did not have enough ambient light for me to clearly see the face, and in the few instances in which I was in pitch darkness, the hands had absorbed more than enough ambient light from earlier in the day to show clearly.

Is there a way to connect my iPhone 6S to an ad-hoc network on a Windows 7 computer? I see the network, but I cannot connect to it.

>Being proud of other people's work

>Not buying something for it actual function, but because of brand.

Hello macfag

>I went to post this on Sup Forums but Sup Forums doesn't have anything about graphics cards
why don't you create a thread then ?

Anyway, for $200 - 300 you won't have a lot of choice. Maybe the 380X. But you better save money and get a better one. Wait a few weeks / month to see if there is a drop in prices or if amd release something good for cheap.

I'm pretty sure my OS is fucked. A bunch of programs crash immediately when opened, and my GPU drivers have been crashing CONSTANTLY. Also, the other day, my GPU OC preset in afterburner had been adjusted to max everything out (That's +87mV and +1Ghz core clock! On a sub-par motherboard I should add). I have no idea how that happened.

Before I go and do a clean install of windows, is there any potential solution for this that I might have ignored? Windows 7, by the way.

Living on shitfuckistan so pcpartpicker prices don't apply, and hardware being overpriced as fuck

I only have 2 options, do I build around the cheaper G4400 or a bit expensive FX6350?

For gpu the only affordable option is a 750ti since even 950s are expensive

All I want is stable fps in witcher 3, 1080p, even if mid settings.

How do you think they make money ?
They just sell your tweets and data you provide.
They aren't as bad as facebook.

imagine a cell phone that, instead of a 3.5mm jack, only has a optical audio port.

How would i go about hooking up some speakers to it?

Well RMS doesn't dismiss it anymore, so I'll give it the OK

I told you last thread that it wont show any performance loss

Dont use shitty software when you can do it in your bios
go to bios

750ti isnt going to power witcher even on all sliders to the left low.
Save up another month and buy proper hardware You dont have to build it now

Do what in the bios? If you mean re-install windows then yeah, of course I'll be doing it from the bios.

You buy speakers that have an optical audio out port

Not sure if pathetic attempt at trolling, or just full on retard

Go in to your bios, set everything i default
boot

Do those even exist? Where the hell do I look for them?

Hey, come on now, I wouldn't be asking in /sqt/ if I knew better.

Must have been someone else, I don't see any replies to me about it in the last thread.
So there won't be any difference?

What's the point of dual-channel then?

what about the r9 380x

...

Given your situation, you dont really have an option.
You will notice no visual performance loss.

>Given your situation, you dont really have an option.
Well like I said, I could get a replacement motherboard instead for $40 more than it would cost me to get the replacement RAM.
I was just asking because there's no need to spend the extra $40 if I won't notice any downsides in not using dual-channel.

You won't

Then, what's the point of dual-channel at all if it doesn't provide noticeable benefit?

You have more bandwith lanes for the controller to use. Having non synced ram limits the bandwidth you can use.

tl;dr you will only notice it if you're ocing everything in your system, and dont care for stabilityl, but rather to push the limits for epeen

What do you guys use for your music library on Windows?

'sup Sup Forums, I'm going to have a couchstation soon and with that comes the need for a pretty large monitor, here's the question:
should I go 4k? Currently there's no rig that can run any game maxed out at 4k but from the little I've looked around there seems to be little price difference from 1080.

Do you guys know any large monitor either 1080 or 4k you would recommend?

I want to play video games with a controller and TV on my couch. Why shouldn't I buy a PS4 for $300?

I've had two crashes in the last 12 hours because ASUS Anti-Surge went off for no apparent reason. The PSU is only a few months old and I've never had this happen before but seeing as how the last two serious equipment failures I've had in the past 5 years were PSU's giving up the ghost I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong with the house's socket

If there is something wrong outside my computer, what can I do about it?

Look into getting a UPS. Honestly, everyone should be using these.

Put a UPS between the socket and PC.

I'm having issues with my internet.
When I try to enter a thread on any board, this screen shows up sometimes, normally on threads that have a high reply count. Additionally, if I try to listen to something on say soundcloud and it exceeds a certain time limit, say around 5 minutes, other tabs will not do anything. If I try to click update it just hangs there forever or until I close the tab.
This doesn't happen all the time either. It's really fucky and random. Sometimes It'll be going nice but then the next day it's back to shit.
Is it an old router problem? Is it just Comcast being huge dicks? Is it my computer (macfag by the way)? Anyone have any advice or suggestions? Restarting doesn't do squat nor does turning off the internet and turning it back on.

Is there a simple way to download just one category from a wikipedia page? For example just take all of the States from

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_states_and_territories_of_the_United_States

and put them into a .txt file?

Are you using wireless or wired connection? It could be a lot of different things causing the problem.

How do I close Xserver gracefully? If I do alt+print+k, after 3 times, it locks up the keyboard input, if I then do alt+print+r it works again, but after xstart and then stopping it a 4th time it won't recover at all, so I don't like that. I would have to restart every 3 to 4 times I do xstart.

What's a better way?

Try another browser to help locate the problem.

>DDR4 1.2V RAM
>DDR4 1.35V RAM

Both will work on any mobo as long as it supports DDR4 right?

Wireless.

I've tried Safari and firefox but both do the same thing. Oddly enough, on both my shit windows laptop and ipad tablet, they can access threads that my desktop Mac cannot.

How long should laptops last? My Asus is finally giving out after a long 4 years in college. Wondering if I should just get a new one. Where can I find a good laptop without a bunch of Windows 10 shit and bloatware?

Maybe your wireless card might be taking a shit.

Does the problem persist on other wireless networks?

Is the problem resolved if you use a wired connection?

Because your other older devices seem to work with the wi-fi, the problem is most likely the mac.

Unless you want better specs on a laptop, you could probably save the laptop you are using now.

1. Replace hard drive with SSD.
2. Optionally, buy more RAM.
3. Reset Windows or refresh it.

Laptops last 3 years

Also just get an iPad you fucking casual faggot.

>without a bunch of Windows 10 shit and bloatware?

Just reinstall winderp. And 4 years is pretty decent. If it doesn't have an SSD yet you might be able to push it on.

Buy a secondhand Thinkpad.
They're cheap and you can completely dismantle them in order to replace any component that happens to fail.

There's a Sup Forums Thinkpad guide somewhere but I don't have it.

Are ASUS likely to release a replacement for the RT-AC68U this year? It was released like 3 years ago.

Which used thinkpad should I get if I want an IPS display?

My dad is thoroughly conviced he can install kodi on his Bravia KDL- w55w829b. I am convinced he can't. Can any Anons finally settle this dispute?

how would i go about ripping all the themes off of this website? 3dsthem.es

Bumperino

I'll try out the other suggestions later. It probably is the wireless card, this thing is around 6 years old. I'll just bear it until I can justify buying a new desktop.

>tfw i want an android phone but i'm forced to use an iphone because android phones are shit about supporting multiple countries' cell frequencies

Software? foobar

Ask in the thinkpad thread.

I don't really have much information
my computer just randomly restarts, it's never don't this before

when the computer starts back up, it's not a BSOD and not a "fatal error" it just says

>windows did not shutdown properly

it's not a cooling problem, I'm running new games like Fo4 and FC primal at max settings and temps are just fine

the only thing I can remember doing in recent memory is getting an external hard drive and downloading all my steam games onto it

it's happened a few times while playing games, but just recently it happened again and all I was doing was browsing Sup Forums

so bullet points

>comp keeps randomly restarting
>no errors after restart
>not overheating
>only new soft/hardware is an external hard drive with all steam games on it
>random restarts even when not playing games

help Sup Forums, you're my only hope

selling my thinkpad. running windows 7 OS on it. how do I restore the OS to a state that will be fresh and new for whoever the new user is going to be?

What are some good books about modern GPU architecture? I have a background on CPU and memory architecture from uni, and now I'm interested about GPUs.

I was wandering - if I'll create almost perfect opensource clone of a certain proprietary software includin overall look, hotkeys, menus, actions etc. but excluding the trademark names and not using actual parts of code and visuals of afforementioned software - will the owners of that software be able to sue me?

Reinstall it?

bump.
I know it's a stupid question.

So it doesn't freeze either? Just seamlessly restarts?

My money would be on it being a PSU problem, cutting power to the motherboard for a split second causing it to effectively turn off and back on again.

Do you have a spare PSU and/or motherboard to use to test it?

System restore maybe?
Honestly you could probably just manually uninstall/delete all your stuff and they wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

The fact that it's in a table means there's not really an easy way, no matter where you view the data the stuff you want is always going to have a bunch of formatting stuff stuck inbetween it. You might be able to code some kind of browser extension that could do it.

R8 my build pls.
I'm planning on getting a gtx 1070 so the 980 is just in there as a price placeholder since it's almost the same price.

no freezes, and I was just playing arkham city yesterday for a 4 hours
today when I got off work and played it, I got maybe 15 minutes into it before I got a restart

>PSU

that' what google said, since they are entirely random, my only other option was a bard driver or something like that but I wouldn't know where to start with that, so I just unplugged my portable HD for now

I don't have a spare of either, teh PSU is fairly new, i t was new when I got it and that was about 7-8 months ago

is there a way to check what kind of power supply I have outside of bending over and looking at it/bios?

If I open a bunch of shit in chrome is that stored as memory in ram or the hard drive?

Can i somehow share a PostgreSQL database between multiple machines through a cloud like dropbox or google drive?

How is NewPipe useful to someone who wants to actually keep up with channels?

You can't login, access subscriptions or even browse through channels. It's purely for searching and playing videos and nothing else.

So... am I supposed to use bookmarks or the mobile site to browse, and then just play the videos through NewPipe? For what purpose?

>is there a way to check what kind of power supply I have outside of bending over and looking at it/bios?
If it's anywhere, I'd guess it'd be in System Information under the Accessories folder, or in the device manager. But I doubt you'll see it there, you'll probably need to open up the computer.

Anyone?
