no

maybe, we can never be sure...

LXDE
It's fast and comfy c:

none
I only use a WM (Awesome)

GNU + Object Model Environment, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNu + OME

DEs are for noobs, a professional uses a WM with the command line. Awesome WM all the way.

GNOME
Because I'm a noob

>a professional uses a WM with the command line. Awesome WM all the way.
>Guess I'll need a professional IDE
>/usr/bin/gtk+3 not found

Unity because I don't give a fuck anymore. I do everything in the terminal with tmux handling terminal panes. Messing with DEs and WMs gets boring after a while

Xfce4
Because right balance between features, riceability and lightness.

>terminal with tmux
Fuck that
I just use terminator

With tmux I can use the same setup while ssh'd into a compute cluster as I do on my local machine. And it's persistent.

What do I do guys, my minimal KDE Plasma installation is too comfy and looks too good. I think I need to install another DE/WM :^).

Lxde desu

>With tmux I can use the same setup while ssh'd into a compute cluster as I do on my local machine

Well I guess for admin stuff it's better
But for mundane shit terminator is enough

What DE does OS X use?

>minimal
>KDE Plasma

pls tell me more

MATE

Well I just installed xorg-server, my drivers and plasma on Arch Linux.

On Arch the Plasma group doesn't include any KDE applications -- the only thing you get by doing that is basically KWin, the System Settings applications and related KDE Control Modules (basically setting manager applications) and that's it.

I'm not even sure if Dolphin is installed by default. After that I simply added Dolphin and Konsole and that was enough for me.

Nice to see I'm not the only one on elementary.

It literally says right in your screenshot, friendo.

You're making your fellow OS X users look bad

KDE5 by itself is already a clusterfuck though

How so?

Aqua is the compositor though.

Dunno, feels pretty comfy, I wouldn't call it that. Looks good and really works fine (for me). After installation it looks a bit horrible, but that's a quick fix with infinality patches applied, font sizes adjusted to size 8 and the bright breeze theme enabled.

Did you look at the number of packages right after install? It's even bigger than GNOME
But yes, still better than a standard KDE installation

None. Just Openbox wm. I used to use XFCE4 for years but eh.

Gnome

Just werks

>Aqua is the compositor though.

It's Quartz you fucklord

I think I've just randomly only checked the few threads these past days where you've posted screenshots of your Mac, so it seemed like you were trying really hard to show it off.
Sorry, I got a little triggered. You're probably a cool guy.

KDE plasma

I currently have 1057 packages installed, but that's not just the KDE installation -- it's a fully configured system with pretty much everything I use daily.

The number of packages installed doesn't matter that much to me, it's not like they are all services that need to be started by init or something, so they aren't slowing my system down. I barely have 20% of space on my (system) SSD used so that's no issue either.

But sure, it's a fully-featured DE after all even without all the standard KDE apps.

>Xfce4

On thing bugging me about Xfce is the lack of proper compositor and shitty gtk3 integration
When will Xfce be full gtk3

>professionnal
>IDE
If you need an IDE to be productive 1 you're a retard
2 you're using a shitty language and suicide is the only option

>it seemed like you were trying really hard to show it off.
>You're probably a cool guy.
I am.

Well it's an arch install after all
I bet Kubuntu must use right up to 2000 packages on a fresh install

They're not used by init directly, but probably KWin uses many of them, not to mention the compositor requirements
MY setup went to shit after a week or so, most probably driver issues

>If you need an IDE to be productive 1 you're a retard
>2 you're using a shitty language and suicide is the only option

Oh pls tell me what language you develop with
Protip: Pre-80s archaic shit you do for keks don't count

Ah that's sad to hear. And yes the *buntus include way too many default apps.

My installation runs beautifully with the proprietary nvidia drivers and the default arch Linux kernel. Even got my Xonar DX sound card to work without issues.

Cinnamon.

Try Neon if you want minimal KDE with ubuntu base

It's called Windows and it's the greatest DE ever invented.

...

Microsoft invented desktops.

This thread is really good right now, mostly friendly people and serious discussions. Can you please just stop.

I'm just saying, all DEs are just bad attempts at mimicking Windows.

same

Ok, thanks. Please stop now.

...

None. Just openbox because i don't want your bloated bullshit getting in my way.

I use DWM because it is the best

strawpoll.me/10276978

Gnome shell because I'm not a man child who rices every little thing.

I don't think ricing has anything to do with your age. I also don't think that Gnome is especially unriceable, so your argument isn't really very good.

Still nice rice though.

>implying he is arguing anything

>What DE do you use and why?
KDE.

Because despite Sup Forums memes, it's actually really good.

whatever elementary uses
i'm comfortable

I used to use GNOME 3 for the same reason until I realized basically every lightweight DE offers the same workspace features more responsively without the pointless animations and screen transitions.

It's pantheon

KDE I love the customization and things like Dolphin.

Anything is lightweight once you go beyond 8gbs of ram.

I use ubuntu for my server, but I really couldnt care less.

I prefer debian.

Unity
it came preinstalled
not even memeing
thank you user

Openbox
Best wm I've used so far

May I present, the minimal comfy Plasma setup.

Not minimal enough. Get rid of those borders and make that titlebar smaller, damn it!

damn harsh

>that bar
>those icons
>borders
>minimal

Minimal doesn't has to mean that you are using a tiling wm without any window decorations whatsoever...

Anyways, as the screenshot shows, it's past my bedtime. o/

Since when? I knew a lot of professional that used CDE and or OpenWindows.

>Skeuemorphic graphical shit
>minimal

Anyway running i7 16 GB Ram why do you care about minimal at all

I meant my installation / configuration, not necessarily the look of my desktop.

I don't really care about minimal, I just like my system how it currently is. It's the minimal viable installation for me, containing everything I need/use (although most is not shown).

What I'm trying to say is, it looks like shit.

:^)

I disagree, and yours looks definitely worse.

Isn't it time for you to go to bed already?

It is, shut up.

>thinking having huge icons, transparent window borders, and a god-awful taskbar looks better
ok dude, you do you

LXQt because Qt5 is a bitch otherwise

Currently using Unity. It's alright - no issues with performance.

Kind of considering Pantheon. My list of DE functionality needs is very short, and this seems to have all of them. Plus it's purdy. Might even just go XFCE again because it and Pantheon both have the small bit of functionality I want.

Minix doesn't have a DE

VOTE FOR YOUR DE NOW

Yeah I am doing me, thanks fag.

xfce so i can hop from toaster to toaster without issue. (other than tearing)

compton

or for nvidia: forcecompositionpipeline

I forget. the one with dank rikkas.

Windows 7
It's very accessible

Plasma because simce 5.6 it has become incredibly stable and i hate gtk. Also its faster than gnome.

Also it has the papirus suite which is the most complete themepack ever.

but the DE in Windows is called Explorer

MOOOOOODS

Moar

Pro reporting in - your statement is false. A Pro takes use of the environment that matches his profession.
And if you just use a wm, then this is your DE.

Icon theme ?

GNOME3 because i find it to be extremely comfortable.

Femanon reporting in - you're a nerd.

and we all know a female opinion is worth much more than a male one.

Well install gtk then you fucking retard. This isn't that complicated.

It's ok to be a nerd if your dayjob is sysadmin... it helps.
