Why did you get into computers instead of cars?

it's the same concept

cant watch japanese cartoons on a dirt old subaru

my god

Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas
I need to get myself away from this place
I said yep, what a concept
I could use a little fuel myself
And we could all use a little change

Who said I'm not into both?

no laws about ricing
no laws about going too fast

You can install Gentoo on a Tesla Model S and watch videos on the center console

yeah, but Sup Forums buys old thinkpads and not new macbooks

>moving parts that can have up to a million times the kinetic energy of a 12 V fan
>up to 1000 degrees of exhaust temperatures instead of a comfy absolute maximum of 100C in cpu
>most components need to be disassembled to be lifted using pure body strength
>grease, lots and lots of grease and oil
>all sorts of carbon and nitrogen oxide gases
>messing with high pressure tanks
>messing with flammable liquids

with this clumsiness I've got it'll kill me in a day

I don't need a license to use a computer

All my friends who got into cars are now working as car mechanics and earning less than $20k a year

All my friends who got into computers are now engineers and make >$80k a year

too expensive

I wish you did, though

Working with cars is a proper pain in the ass. New cars because there is absolutely no space and even the simplest tasks require shitloads of work. Old cars because everything is stuck and finding parts can be difficult.

Not to even mention how fucking expensive having cars as a hobby is.

going to a racetrack is pricey and unless you live in britain you will have to do a pretty long drive before reaching the track. If I had a track close to my home I would buy a cheap race car when I get a decent job.

tinkering with old cars needs more space, money and time than tinkering with old computers desu

and I find computers a much more versatile and interesting piece of equipment from an engineering perspective

doesn't mean I still don't have a little bit of /o/tism though, I like a good shitbox as much as the next guy

Who needs a track, you just need backroads

>implying they don't get 100k a year by helping robbers to escape

Honestly I would probably rather be working on cars if I had enough money and cars to work on but I'm a poorfag so I just fix computers and program instead.

Because trying to learn about cars yourself by tinkering with shit can result in extremely expensive parts being destroyed or severe injury. This is why people learn about cars from family and friends.

While they are similar in concept, they are very different interests when it comes to how one learns about them.

Spend $2000/year on a hobby car: you're a poorfag

Spend $2000/year on computers: you get high end stuff every year

Yeah many things are the 'same concept' while being totally different in real life.

Life with working on cars is nothing like life with working on computers.

>All my friends who got into computers are now engineers and make >$80k a year

In Rupees?

I'm a mechanic and I make 40k. They should stop working at dealers.

I'm a 23 year old junior sysadmin making $60k. This is why I didn't become a mechanic.

You are quite literally a fucking idiot.

I found out you could not buy a Honda Today outside of Japan. The sock and disappointment put me off of cars for life.

I like this image

I wanted to be less replaceable.

Its a cool place
But they say it gets colder
You're bundled up now, wait till you get older
But the media men beg to differ
Judging by the hole in the satellite picture

Well your friends must be shit or work at shit shops where there's a huge chance they could die for not using stands with jacks.

My friend works at a prime dealership and makes 62k a year.

Internal combustion engines are old technology and manufacturers are making them more difficult to service. I wouldn't want to be a mechanic because I don't like gas cars.

Electric cars are cool though. I've wanted to convert an old Jeep to electric for a while now, just haven't got around to it.

Why not both? Carmack riced a Ferrari to reach 1000hp

computers are cheaper

2gb of ram for my t42 was 15$
a new alternator for my 1993 buick regal was 450$

>performance upgrade
>rice

Goddamn you probably could've bought a whole engine for parts at that price

isnt that the first incantation what "ricing" was?
asian drifting communities upgrading the performance on japanese cars

hence "rice burners"

Both, the 4.3 for my swap is in the machine shop right now getting honed and the bottom end done aiming for 400hp in my CJ7

Rice is useless flashy upgrades like a giant rear spoiler on a Civic

useless flashy upgrades
so, just like i3 and anime wallpapers + firefox CSS on computers

Congrats user, you were able to put two and two together!

I never go outside, so a car is useless to me.

I'm honestly not into either anymore. I don't even know why I come to Sup Forums

I use computers far more and cars need to just work

I got into cars first, then trucks and then computers.

Can't nerds be manly men as well?

or to drive a sandwich

Transistors are more interesting than internal combustion engines

3DPD

your friends must suck ass at cars. Tell them to quit

why not both? bonus points if you guess what car these are from/for.

That's still a computer

No fucking shit, a computer in a car

Got more images like that?

But I did.

I work with computers to make a good salary and I play with cars so I don't throw all that money at a mechanic when something goes wrong with my car.

AND THEY DONT STOP CUMMINS

You know you can rebuild almost any American alternator for 30$ right?

computers are cheaper and don't require upper body strength or getting dirty.

Friend of the family is on ~120k as an electrical mechanic (cars, trucks etc).

He does all the wiring, tuning, circuit testing as well as all the normal mechanical stuff.
He loves his job.

>implying I'm not into both

Money.
My only holdback.

Yes computer parts are expensive, but there are less components that need to be changed out to make it run noticeably better, compared to a car.

/thread

If you screw up software you're out $0.
If you screw up an old P4 you're out like $20.

You screw up a car, you're out at least 2 grand, probably more. And possibly your life, if it decides to burst into flames in the middle of the highway because of your poor "performance" upgrades.

I don't like grease.

...

The OP is "why did you get into computers instead of cars"

If you "got into" cars because they have computers, then you didn't get into cars - you got into computers. That's why you and the dumbass I originally replied to are both retarded

Significantly higher risk across the board

>tuning
>being your own mechanic

Low class or true handyman grade

because im fat and dont want pussy

>Implying I didn't buy my car specifically because it's easy to work on myself

N/A mid mounted diesel engine is basically the equivalent of a Pentium 2 in a full tower chassis.

I'm into cars enough to keep mine running.

I got into both. You guys who say you can't lift parts and don't like grease can't be serious.

Too fucking hot outside

Because I'm a 32 year old Systems Analyst that doesn't own a car or have a driver's licence. Even though I earn 100k I think it is a waste of money

This.

>media men
METEOR FAGGOT

Didn't have the male influences I needed growing up.

Jesus Christ, her face is a mess but her ass is good enough to it off of it.

Gtr or nissan 350

I can't shitpost on Sup Forums with a car.

but I like both. just got done respraying the idiot rack, actually. gonna start working on the worn ass suspension next and maybe build the bed out a little more.

350's aren't awd, you're 50% right.

If they are the same concept, why bother?

i am into both

Optical disability so I can't drive. The only thing I know about cars is that there's a computer inside.

you can do more with computers.

with 40 kg of gas its easy to do 400 km. To do the same an electric car will need 500kg of batteries.
Also gas (petrol) is lighter than water.

i sweat too much and its irritating when the sweat got into my glasses

GNU/Truck

>getting your hands dirty

What are you, poor?

Because with computers i can at least explore a wide range of entertaining options like variety of software and things to do. While on cars, its just cars and nothing else.

>he's never cleaned his hands off with gojo

Best thing in the world.

Sounds like you should have just told him no

NSA-senpai will change that soon enough dear user.

Why did you get into cars instead of computers?

i've always found computers more interesting

gas was too expensive in 2009

I wish I knew as much about cars as I know about PCs. I could make some money buying old fleet vehicles and fixing them up for resale.

I did study auto mechanics, and now i don't know shit about computers so i have to browse Sup Forums.

>Why did you get into computers instead of cars?
Cars cost more, take up more room, and need more tools.

cars are simpler and boring

Cars have computers in them, but computers don't have cars in them, therefore cars are in fact more complex.

>implying i got into computers
>implying im not here just for the anime
