Motherboards

I just bought a i5-2500k, what motherboard do you recommend within a £40 budget?

hello retard, my old friend

Save your money and get something around 90

>buying 2500k
>retard

2500k is still a god-tier cpu and budget friendly.

>buying a stone age cpu

nothing wrong with it but finding a motherboard for it can be tricky

just buy some copper wire (insulation optional) and hook the cpu pins up to some ram, a 12v car battery, and an electromagnet

the magnet will wirelessly output video to your CRT, and the buttons on the television/remote will serve as a budget keyboard

What board in particular do you have in mind?

Depends on what you're doing with it.

I got an Asus p8p67 rev1 and I'm happy with it. Wanted 8 Sata ports.paid like 50 euroshekels about a year ago...

Light gaming and watching movies/tv shows.

You'll be spending bare minimum twice that for a board. Falling for the old processor meme before checking out the boards is a rookie mistake, user. Those are always the things that cost a fuckload, because they're about 500x more likely to fail over time than the CPUs.

>just bought a 2500K
You are beyond fucking retarded. There is no point at just buying a CPU that old at this point. You're like one of the dumbasses paying through the nose for a Core 2 Quad after the i7s came out because you thought they'd be cheaper.

I3 would have been better value then.

For a budget pc? I got it for £50

>
>I3 would have been better value then.
Why not an i5?

>i5-2500k
Jesus, I honestly hope it was really fucking cheap. Anything >100 bucks is overpaid.

Because OP wanted a value option. Considering my i3 2120 gives me 60+ fps in gta v and bf4, I'm pretty sure it, or a newer i3, would offer plenty performance with a lower cost and power consumption.

Or an fx6300, which multithreads better than the i5 2500. Either should be going for cheap on the used market.

$30

Why is everyone shitting on the 2500k?

What use is there upgrading when it overclocks to 4.0 - 4.5 GHz just fine?

> i3 2120 gives me 60+ fps in gta v and bf4

bullshit

I get 25fps with fx6300

also

>spends money on a used Sandy Vagina
>has to spend at least three times that to buy a functioning LGA1155 motherboard
Tippity Toppest of keks man
You're a fucking retard. There is a reason why older generation CPUs cost a fraction of what they were worth. You'll end up spending as much on old, used parts with outdated or missing features as you would have on a new motherboard and a i5-6400 or i5-4500

There's nothing wrong with the 2500k... When it was new. Now, there's no point in buying one because the amount you save on the chip is immediately offset by the cost you'll need to pay for a working motherboard.

are you fucking retarded? this is literally one of the first things that pops up into google, wow my wallet is on fire right now

newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?N=100007627 600093976&IsNodeId=1&Submit=ENE

bc they're all retards
>inb4 OP spends another 30 quid on a H81M-HDS to get more performance than a cheapest possible 1155 bundle for less money

You must be the retard because the only new overclockable motherboard is that ASRock board, which has been known to have the rear I/O ports fail after a year of ownership, still has unfixed bugs in the BIOS, and you're paying more for a part that has been sitting on a shelf for years in Allah knows what conditions expecting it to work out of the box. What if it's DOA?
You're fucked out of warranty because ASRock no longer covers that board anymore and even if it did, ASRock customer service sucks rat shit from an Indian's mouth. And good luck trying to get Newegg to send you a replacement board for a product that's no longer under factory warranty. I should know after buying a new, DOA LGA1366 motherboard from them last year and getting my wallet wrecked for nothing.

that's your own fault if you buy it new from a website you can return it to the seller within a certain grace period, everything else you said about the board is conjecture from disgruntled retards that bought and likely abused the board as these boards are all made the same way

>everything else you said about the board is conjecture from disgruntled retards that bought and likely abused the board as these boards are all made the same way
>conjecture
Then buy it with fingers crossed with the knowledge that ASRock will not fix or replace your board under warranty.

Op stated he wants light gaming.

I use it with my r7 260x, bf4 60 fps high settings, gta v 60 fps medium settings.

I use a framecap so I don't see what it can go up to though.

>i3 2120
>r7 260x
>bf4 on high
>60fps

So 720p and no AA right?

Is the 4500k worth getting?

>4500k
???

4590 sorry

What kid of 1155 bundle would that be ?

...

any bundle would perform worse up to twice as expensive as the one that OP's getting. can't buy a $100 one that's able to get past 2500k.

>having to upgrade twice as early and end up paying more in the long run
sure is retard in there

>i got a used CPU and now have to buy bargin bin used other parts for my build that will most likely also be OC'd since you got the K-meme version

meanwhile in the end it'll not be any cheaper than this skylake build nor outperform it

pcpartpicker.com/p/wTtxZL

>2500k won't outperform G4500
>his $60 won't be cheaper than this $140 one
surely joking right

It is, problem is finding a motherboard

...

have fun running 4core tasks

where are you getting 140 from.. the 4500 is only $80

what the hell am I looking at in that pic? and finding a $30-used, $60-new mobo isn't a problem

obviously I meant
>his $60 bundle won't be cheaper than this $140 one
since we're all talking about cpu+mobo prices

so then spend $20 more for the i3-6100

and you can buy stable top of the line mobos with chipsets up to par with the GPUs you plan on using for $50, 8 gigs of DDR4 ram for the same price as DDR3 1155 socket ram

he spent 60 dollars for just the CPU and was asking for mobos from the start

the only mobo still on sale with anyhthing more than 1 raiting is the ASROCK that user already pointed out has massive un-fixed issues, otherwise its $70 generic intel mobos with 16 gigs max ram capacity

no he explicitly said 30 and there are PLENTY of mobos he can choose from starting from $29:
amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00I6DLKCA/ref=sr_1_2_olp?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1463959600&sr=1-2&keywords=1150&condition=used

he bought a K which means he wasn to OC

as user already stated the nearly $200 asrock is the only option

The great thing about overclockable LGA1150 motherboards is the fact that the Pentium G3258 exists. There are some cheap sub-$100 Z97 boards now thanks to that Pentium.

post your frames per second in MGS4 and Far Cry once you finish that meme3258 build

his CPU socket is a fucking 1155 you stupid idiot

>which means he wasn to OC
u wot?
tell me where's the problem fitting a 30 dollar h81 mobo with his 2500k, cranking the base clock a little bit to easily outperform even a 4670k?

I was talking about the motherboards, shitlord
And why was he bringing up LGA1150 motherboards? OP's a dumbass for buying a used 2500k with no motherboard. Good luck sourcing a working board for a decent price.

>tell me where's the problem fitting a 30 dollar h81 mobo with his 2500k
I'll tell you the problem
>LGA1150

>buying an i3
>ever

Just save up your gbp for another couple months and get an i5 or i7 you fucking retard.

H81 is not compatible with 2500k

>all these retards itt aimlessly shitting on a decent chip and desperately trying to argue a newer socket bundle would be cheaper and perform better while disregarding that OP has already spent $30 on an almost 4670k-tier cpu and it just takes him to get a lousy mobo to go with it

was a mistake visiting Sup Forums after all these years nothing seem to have evolved in here

>buying a K
>putting it in a shitty non OC mobo

why not put your 950 in a PCI 8 slot too

Op here, would literally any mobo do (worst case scenario ASrock h61 pro btc)

slight mistake of mine, messed up with the numbers. h61 it should be. nothing changes anyway, a $35 h61 mobo:
amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00789PYDY/ref=sr_1_35_olp?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1463960559&sr=1-35&keywords=1155&condition=used

>buying a K
no
>having already bought a $30 cpu
that's the keyword for not going for a newer socket system

1080p.

Not ultra settings. High settings.

My i3+mobo was 60 aud. Even came with 4gb ram.

>used
>mobo from almost 5 years ago

>Oct 28, 2011 - GA-H61M-S2PV. User's Manual

>plethora of 1151 socket mobos brand new for 30-40 dollars from top mfg's

>pro
don't need it. you know it wouldn't hurt to use your cheap-ass-bought cpu at stock speeds and you'll still get much higher performance than a g4500

your pointless arguments just for the sake of arguing is pathetic and you know it. put $15 more for a new one
amazon.com/MSI-Intel-Micro-Motherboard-H81M-E33/dp/B00F42W70A/ref=sr_1_16?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1463961026&sr=1-16&keywords=1155

last time I checked 30+49.82 was lower than 140

>i5-2500k
good luck finding a good working board for that user

>Support for DDR3 1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules

>1333 is the max support....and its used and 5yrs old
>and only 16 gigs

>1 x D-Sub port
1 x DVI-D port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200
* The DVI-D port does not support D-Sub connection by adapter.

>no SATA 3 connectors...lel

>4 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors supporting up to 4 SATA 3Gb/s devices

>USB 2.0 in 2016...kysrn

>Up to 8 USB 2.0/1.1 ports (4 ports on the back panel, 4 ports available through the internal USB headers)

this is fucking hilarious

meanwhile for the same price

H110M-PRO-D or VD

fucks sake that amazon website is pure stupid
amazon.com/Asus-P8H67-M-Chipset-Onboard-CrossfireX/dp/B004WPC9M6/ref=sr_1_24?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1463961187&sr=1-24&keywords=1155

My 10 year old x5470 @4.25Ghz and a 970 gtx gives me avg 45fps for GTA V with very high settings on Win 7

just keeps me giving shitload of 1150 mobos even though my keyword clearly reads 1155
amazon.com/ASRock-MicroATX-Motherboard-Micro-Intel/dp/B00IYYUGAS/ref=sr_1_21?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1463961187&sr=1-21&keywords=1155

a "new" mobo mfg in 2011 sitting on the shelf somewhere and im sure in "optimal" conditions for the last 5 years

so now its a "new" non SATA 3, USB 3, HDMI, DDR4, more than 16 gigs of ram, more than 1 monitor Mobo and zero warranty

Is your cpu also the gpu? Because vishera has no igpu.

Nice try.

proves my point since he won't need none of those
>SATA 3
why would he need more than his old magnetic hdd for that use
>USB 3
same as above
>HDMI, 16 gigs, 2 monitors
right, so much needed in "light" gaming
>DDR4
just

>light gaming

you realize the skylake intel graphics 6200 is on par with R7 360 and just 1 bracket below the GTX 750 right?

so he could still build a 1151 socket build with the 100$ i3 then add a GPU later if he needed

The point I'm making is that it's a mobo made for bitcoin mining

Return it and wait a few months for the massive sell off of FX 8350's, mobos and ram, stores will run crazy sales and upgraders will be giving those things away.

the 530 is just 1 tier below those and the i3 will have all the technology to actually boot games without issue

pcpartpicker.com/p/Zf4sHx

then add a GPU later on
