Yet Another /guts/ Thread

I wonder if a 1080 and a 2500K would be a bad idea..

Yes

fuck AMD housefire processors and fuck the AMD 970 housefire chipset

I know that feel bro, my parents computer is the 970 chipset

Not even on the same level, but I was awfully tempted to de-lid my ivy bridge until the motherboard stopped posting and I decided to go back to my 1366 board and i7 920 and just wait and see what summit ridge is like

Why?

Just overclock the 2500k and you're fine

Man, I'm glad I got the 4790k. Skylake is such a fuckin meme

Yeah I agree. This 2500K seems to last forever.

clock it to the moon, like nvidia did with the 1080

>tfw 3930k at only 4.7ghz

The more time I spend waiting for the 1070, the more I'm hoping AMD gives us something good so I can try freesync.
Are the effects of freesync very noticeable?

Gonna move the pump to the back, get a 1080 with a nickel block. Gonna try and wet sand off the gold/yellow powder coat on the mobo heatsinks and just leave it bare aluminum

Depends. Do you find screen tearing very noticeable?

Before? No, but when I watched reviews it started kicking in and now I can't get it off my mind. Seeing how expensive gsync monitors are, and with AMD revealing Polaris in 1 week, I really want Polaris to be able to handle 1440p.

Finally bought the ssd, I'm pretty much done with it for now.

put the fucking cpu cooler facing up (rotate 90º)

What about a 2500k and a 480X ?

Is there any significant performance boost between an i5-6600K and the 2500K in games? I feel like the RAM difference of DDR4 vs. DDR3 might be more important in certain games than you CPU.

Really shitty pic of the updated guts. For the amount of effort I spent fighting with the 240mm predator I should have just gone with a custom loop

Keep the cpu. Buy 1080 instead of the 970. Thats what im doing.

Not Op.

...

How many people still play crysis3?

Never even played but 2500k Bench are not really up to date lately! Still it let you have an idea

...

why the fuck would you do that

>comparing different clock speeds
All intel CPUs should run at the same fucking clock speed for a proper comparison.

>oh your car has more horsepower? that's not fair, it should have the same as mine, then we'll know who has the faster car!

Did you even read ?
6700k @ 4.7
6600k @ 4.7
6700k @ 4.5
6600k @ 4.5
4790k @ 4.7
4690k @ 4.5
3770k @ 4.5
3570k @ 4.5
2600k @ 4.5
2500k @ 4.5

I think there enough 4.5 to make a decent comparison! You can even compare some @ 4.7!

Got anything that includes x99 processors?

You can extrapolate for X99, it's generally 5-15% slower than a 6700k for gaming. (its not a gaming platform afterall)

IIRC they're slightly slower in single thread but much faster in multi threaded benches. New ones are probably on par with skylel

meh
a e s t h e t i c.

why would it be?

i have the 970.
you need to undervolt it in bios.

and they say /r9k/ is the autism board

Was just looking up my CPU compatibility list for this motherboard and the Xeon E5-2689 v4 is supported so potentially in 3-5 years I could buy a cheap aftermarket E5-2689 v4 (10 core 20 thread, 3.1GHz) as long as I keep this motherboard in decent shape.

brother's tower has a 970 chipset. i just dropped a 40mm fan on it. been like that for 2 years. stays reasonably cool.

Nice loop, looks very good.

>buying anything AMD over $100

The reality is, literally everything AMD sells right now is slow and inefficient; but if the cost is under $100, nobody will complain.

But the moment you buy any AMD sku over $100, you've fucked up.

So tasteful until that badge.

As nice as ever
that CPU heatsink+case+PSU costs more than the rest of the PC. Good cabling though
If I were you i'd get a 980ti from a non-wait fag for super cheap
sounds good, get some braided cables whilst you're at it
>implying you couldn't make it more ricer aka better
looks as good as ever
why 480x?
wow that case is cramped, haven't seen it w/o the Rad installed. How much has that cost you in all?
what happend to the good camera?
it looks a lot better with a properly coloured rad
just noticed the yellow mobo

are you gonna get another GPU or just go to 1080?
s l e e p e r - m e m e

Forgot the picture

>are you gonna get another GPU or just go to 1080?
Likely the 1070, my gaming habits are nothing extreme.

>How much has that cost you in all?
I believe he said in another thread it was around $3,000 already, but he also said he plans on dropping in an i7-6950x 10 core when it's released, and he also mentioned something about a GTX 1080 or the next titan.

RIP in pieces my psu finally took a dump luckily it didn't take anything with it. Now to save up for a new psu.

>save up for a new psu
You dont have an emergency $100-200 stashed aside in case of HDD/PSU/motherboard etc failure?

Am I the only one?

I'm just not a poorfag, so if shit breaks I can actually afford to buy a replacement without an 'emergency fund'.

I mean I can afford it too without that emergency fund, but I still have it in case shit hits the fan.

Car gets totaled and 3 days later your motherboard dies? Sometimes life fucks you.

>'m just not a poorfag
>Now to save up for a new psu
uhhh user...

Different person dumbass

Then why did you reply as if it was you?

>I'm just not a poor fag

you're acting like he was replying directly to you when you're just butting in out of nowhere.

I have another computer i can use in the mean time at least.

Well at least you've got that going for you. I have a shitty home server I could use in an emergency, as well as my thinkpad.

>Why 480X
I dont need a flagship like the 1080.
A 1070 or 480X would be enough! Had a great experience with Amd Gpu so far so probably gonna be a 480X , depending on the price and bench! Also i want a backplate this time so we'll see!

>If I were you i'd get a 980ti from a non-wait fag for super cheap
I'm a third worlder, I don't think anyone in my area would jump ship from a 980ti, and if by a miracle someone does, it will probably close to its original price.
I'll see how Polaris performs and its price, as well as how high of a markup shops here add to Polaris and 1070, if they're overpriced then I suppose I'll have to find a used 980ti.

in a week or two ill probably be getting this amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-PLATINUM-Crossfire-Warranty/dp/B010HWDPKW?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&redirect=true&ref_=s9_simh_gw_g147_i2_r
seems like it should be adequate for what i need.

Looks good, I have a 600w Titanium rated unit. Was actually really thinking about getting that platinum rated unit, but the Titanium rated came out like a week before I did my build.

Yeah considering i am upgrading from a 5+ year old bronze ocz gayming psu. it will be a lot better.

Yeah I upgraded from a thermaltake TR2 550w...not even sure if it was 80+ bronze...

So my 4y old rig has served me well for many years, but my GPU died (Radeon HD 7850).

I don't have money for a new PC, but I want to replace the GPU with some budget card.

I think I narrowed it down to the GTX 750 ti vs. R7 360. They seem to be roughly the same both in performance and price (~ 110 euro).
>GTX 750ti

>Radeon R7 360
tweakers.net/pricewatch/476295/sapphire-nitro-r7-360-2g-d5.html

Any advice on which one to get, also which version, personal experiences? (EVGA, MSI, Sapphire etc.)

Meme fans at their finest

What case is that?

Is this your cpu idle temperature ?

had this shit playing in my head when i was doing this build haha

youtube.com/embed/UKTNWI0eYJ4
my broke ass MacGuyver build - runs like stink!

That GPU sag is killing me.
Use a cable tie or something to prop it up, if there's a hole or something to loop the tie through you can use the holes in the case to prevent sag, I have an R4 and I do exactly that.

...

Nothing wrong with the chipset itself, but the fact that boards that use it, never have proper vrm (with enough phases) with decent enough cooling.

I'm not sure where to ask but I remember some of you guys owning a few very small cases.

I'm gonna move to another country (I'm gonna have to fly there).
Currently I have an R4, housing an ATX mobo, running a 3570k cooled by a Noctua NH U14, for space it has 2 SDDs, 3 HDDs, and for gayming an R9 270x.

I was thinking of selling the R4 and mobo, get an itx mobo and a Node 304.
The Node can house all the drives, has space for the PSU and GPU, and while I'm almost sure the U14 won't fit I can always check first.
Then the Node could travel with me in the small baggage I can take with me on board, while all the unimportant shit can be dumped into the big one that is stuffed under the plane.

I was thinking maybe just sell everything but psu, drives, mobo+cpu (because I don't see the need to upgrade this), gpu (because I don't really pray game and gpus depreciate too much to be worth selling it and "upgrading" it), and cooler (muh noctua), they take very little space in their cartons, and ghetto run it until I settle and buy the new case and stuff at the new place.

It is not a bad idea. You'll be fine.
spæx pls

Okay guys, new builder here.

Just got my system up and running and installed windows 10 pro with no problems.

I then proceeded to to install the driver disc that came with the MSI Z97 motherboard. It was installing fine until part way through the VGA driver install when the screen no longer recognized the computer.

I can get to the Motherboards Bios screen but it will not load up windows any longer. It just boots to a grey screen once past the mobo screen.

Did i screw something up? Any help would be appreciated.

>installing fine until part way through the VGA driver
nigger if you have a dedicated GPU you should be using that anyway.

>installed windows 10 pro with no problems
that's a problem though

kill yourself, if you're gaming you have no excuse not to use W10 unless you're hiding kiddie porn.

>if you're gaming you have no excuse not to use W10
>muh trible A games
Well, I don't game and if I do I just emulate snes era shit or nerd shit like DF.

I don't yet. Just running off the Motherboards HDMI. I've also got an older screen running off the VGA. Signal comes through both until I get past the MSI bios screen, then it just goes to grey and stays there.

Is there a way I can access the SSD to wipe the drivers that got installed so I can at least get Windows 10 running?

>buying nvidia again after 3.5
why

Yeah, although the overclock is on all the time.

I keep the case on the floor and out of sight, I'm not fixing that GPU sag until I open it up again, which is likely in 3-4 months. GPU sag is just an aesthetic thing, I didn't get these fans for aesthetic purposes

So I was fiddling with the mouse and keyboard like some forums said and have now been able to get the cursor to appear.

So now I have a cursor and a grey/black screen. Is this because during the driver installation it caused windows to set up for dual monitors? If so how can I reset this?

well first try unplugging one, if that doesn't reset it then you might have to wipe your windows install and start over. Booting from the install disc (or USB depending on your installation method) should still work.

I'd recommend installing display drivers with only 1 monitor plugged in.

Anyone up for modded cases?

I did only have the HDMI plugged in, but then it said no signal found. So I pulled out a monitor with VGA to make sure it was not the HDMI cable or something like that.

How do I wipe windows from the drive if all I have access to is the Bios screen?

well like I said, use the installation media you installed windows with.

If you used a dvd, tell your bios to boot to the CD/DVD drive. If you used USB, tell your BIOS to boot to USB first.

Just make sure it's not trying to boot to the SSD/HDD first, because then you'll just keep getting windows.

The boot priority is that long row of different drives and shit on the top there beneath the clock.

Ahh makes sense.. sorry for the stupidity.

It's my dad's DSLR, I'll probably borrow it from him again this weekend to take new pics. I might actually take artsy shots of it outside.

...

Very clean. Good work, user

Just opened and cleaned out my PC for the first time in like 6 months. The dust filters on my R5 case are actually very good. My CPU fans and GPU barely had any dust in them. Who else /waiting on Zen/?

Unrelated. I just bought a Linksys AC750 wifi repeater and couldn't be happier. Fucking thing works AMAZING and was up and running in less than 5 minutes.

Yeah, I believe about $3,000. I don't think I'll jump on the 10-series bandwagon. Maybe 11-series. But dat 6950X doe... Waiting very impatiently.

Dat case doe. Every time.

Building a cheap, but pretty good system for my father, step mother, and sisters. Can't wait to get to try it out.
>MFW I get to use a gaymen case for them because it's smaller than their current tower and only $60.

My case is lightly modded, but unless you're familiar with the Phantom 820, you're not likely to be able to tell how.

I should probably get braided cables but my case doesn't have a window so I can't seem to bring myself to buy some.

You should probably get a custom loop for that water cooling case first.

thanks user

>Windows 10

Anyone here know of a good prebuilt pc to buy, preferably around $1k-ish? I don't want to wait for each individual part to arrive before enjoying it. I have never owned a desktop computer before but I have fixed them and built them before.

get a mac

Alright can someone tell if this thing is a piece of shit. its my first build
Mind you I do have and i5 4690k laying around.
Should I put the fucker in???
(same board series and everything not a fan boy of asrock just got it cheap)

not a fan of the os. I am getting into graphic design and I don't want to be like one of those designer sheep that go everything apple.

>20c

How? I have the same cooler but i get like 35c on my 3570k

What rpms do you have them on
