Linux wines again..

When will ''winfags" learn

>litterally

Why are linux users so retarded?

>heh I was worried that I had to refute your argument but I see that you made a typo. Better luck next time kid.

your picture contradicts itself though. you wrote sudo apt-get install php5, not install php5

>sudo
>apt-get

These two steps are left out and would need explaining to a person. Apt-get is not included with every Linux distribution. You need to know what you are going to type to get a program using Apt-Get, which usually entails a google search, making the number of steps really not much different from Windows.

The only big advantage for Linux here is the avoidance of adware.

Not an argument, winfaggot

What version of php5 am I getting?
Where is it being installed?

Linux fags used to make fun of Windows users for pressing the easy button, now they brag about it themselves. How times have changed.

Because you're mentally retarded.

Get over it windork.

let me change his wording
-why do linuxtards trust software that could be just virus itself, not infected exe and use no protection because 'linux viruses do not exist'
mentality

both can use common sense 2016-2017tm

LINUX IS GREAT GUYS, WINDOWS IS TOO COPLICATED ENJOY YOUR BOTNOT LOL WINBLOWS IS ONLY USED BY DUMBS HEHEH IM A 1337 SUPER USER, ONE DAY ILL HAVE A JOB IN THE TECH INDUSTRY EVEN THOUGH I DIDNT GO TO SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY MADE ME USE WINDOWS AND THAT DIDN'T RESPECT MY FREEDUMB

Y-yeah t-thank you

How does software installation works on Linux if no Internet is available?

>no Internet is available
As in it happens outside of nightmares?!?!? I would have preferred not to know that

All I got from this post is that you are somehow too retarded to install Ubuntu senpai

Because trusted repositories
k tard

>looking for a basic program on linux
>find one that does what I want
>even have a linux option in the downloads, great!
>look through all the files it gave me
>start trying to run them
>none of them will actually open anything at all

Then I went back to windows, downloaded the file, ran the .exe, and everything worked fine.

Not sure why any average power user would use linux.

It does not :^) carat 110%
floppy disk is your only hope

>open source software
>'could be just virus itself'

Did you try not being retarded and using Google? I certainly hope you weren't looking for an exe in the folder

>average power user
>windows
top kek ya little bitch

>Installing Ubuntu ever

>average windows-only user

because
>all linux software is open source
>open source software can not damage your computer

I hope you are only pretending to be this retarded.

All necessary Linux software is open source or a part of trusted repositories

And explain how long-time open source software can 'damage your computer'

I tried to run every single file the download provided me with and every single one did absolutely nothing.

OP is advertising that you don't even need to worry about going above simply typing in a command, and now you're telling me I not only need to go through the same exact process I already do on windows, but now I need to go and search online about why I can't even run a basic program I've downloaded?

Yes. I'm a power user who plays high end games with my expensive rig. Whereas you guys fiddle with $200 laptops and watch anime. Do you not know what power user means?

>oh look, this program wants to be installed to My Documents

i didn't call you a power user, fucking retard, I implied that the average windows-only user has similar intelligence to yourself, as in not being able to install programs on linux.

>Power user
>Plays games

Not every package is going to be in the repository retard, try learning a bit more about Linux before bashing it because you can't research simple shit
>power user
>doesn't know how to type in "how to install programs on Linux" into Google

>Yes. I'm a power user who plays high end games with my expensive rig
dude this isnt the tech cringe thread

its called apt-cache search

/All necessary Linux software /
/long-time open source/
You are great straw-man
but these are not real arguments so I do not have to answer them , but i will bite on last part Long-time open source
how does being 'long time' give you any credibility
Trojan horses are long-time open source for example

I go to sleep now,I will write you tomorrow m8
prepare better arguments pls.

What software installs look like on Linux/BSD distros:

Debian-based: # apt-get install kek
Red Hat-based: # dnf install kek
OpenSUSE: # zypper install kek
Arch: # pacman -S kek
Gentoo: # emerge kek
Slackware: # slackpkg install kek

FreeBSD: # pkg install kek
OpenBSD: # pkg_add kek

Once you know that # indicates you've typed in your root (i.e. admin) password, it all seems a lot less confusing, doesn't it? With the exception of Gentoo and Arch, the syntax is just:

[name of package manager] install [program]

If you think clicking on a bunch of shit and hoping to Pajeet you don't get malware bundled with your software install is simpler than this very straightforward syntax, maybe computers aren't for you.

>doesn't know what a strawman is

>doesn't know what FOSS software is

>doesn't know what a trojan horse is

>also i'm going to avoid talking to you now or even respond to your current arguments

Nice

my sides
fucking kek

Trusted repository =\= audited packages. There's a huge difference. You can still download malicious software and code from"trusted repos."

I installed plenty of programs. I had to go find some weird obscure guide on a random forum about how to do something as basic as getting my video drivers, whereas on windows I would simply go to the website and download them, but with Linux there were 20 more steps involved, all of which I figured out and accomplished.

I got many games working through Wine, although 90% of them were broken and unplayable because of various bugs that occurred from the emulation process.

Then when I wanted to download a simply program to mess with some data, it was impossible.

Once again,

>OP advertises installing programs is as simple as typing in a command line and being done with it
>get told that's simply not true and that it's much easier on windows
>UM R U STUPID IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE LINUX IS FOR HARDCORE NERDS OK?

You're literally completely contradicting OP's original point right now you incompetent fuck.

I'm sorry but your posts hold little influence if you refuse to explain the exact standard you have for a "power user". Until then your posts are just shit-posts.

>red hat

Not sure if CentOS is different, but I just use yum install kek

>doesn't understand how open source works

wrong

it's just apt search now
and apt install
and apt whatever

apt-* is deprecated.

you write like a 13 year old trying really hard to write like an adult

Centos and redhat are based on older versions of fedora that used yum. In new fedora versions yum is deprecated

>20 steps to install your video drivers
If you count the first 20 times you tried typing random shit into the terminal as 'steps', sure

>90% of them were broken and unplayable
Half of my entire Steam library is completely playable on Linux natively, with most of the rest working fine on wine. For others, I switch to Windows (luckily, this is rare)

>to download a simply program to mess with some data, it was impossible.
>this linux program is impossible to install on linux!

YUM was recently deprecated in favor of DNF.

Windows:
>always the latest version
>no dependency conflicts
>easy to install

Linux:
>outdated versions
>tons of dependency conflicts if you want to install a newer version than the supplied.
>getting the latest version may require compiling manually, then packaging
>hard to do if you're dumb

no shit?

>implying a 3(or four) letter agency can't push some maintainer give his private key and upload rogue packages.

Windows software : ported to Windows from Linux with a GUI so idiots don't get confused

>You're literally completely contradicting OP's original point right now you incompetent fuck.
Fun fact, I'm not OP retard, I'm bashing you for not being able to Google simple shit. Here, I'll help you out, "power user"
control-escape.com/linux/lx-swinstall-tar.html
I will say installing shit IS easier on Linux if it's in the repository, just as hard as Windows if not.

You don't literally hit install shit for brains

if it's in the repository

so... it just werks!

Yes, and whatever you need will be a good chunk of the time.

Yea have fun with Linux being anything but a niche software with that attitude. I hope you now understand why Windows is like it is

>all you have to do to run these programs is type this one command
>except for these programs you need to run through wine, which has to be configured separately
>and some don't run at all on Linux, you still need to reboot into Windows!
Thank God Linux is so simple to use :•)

I use it on a daily basis and have for years, but most of Sup Forums has their head up their ass about how straightforward most Linux operations really are. You their simplicity out the window when you get to anything complex enough to involve a config file, because nearly every developer insists on writing their own specific parser and format for their config files, which will spit out non-specific error codes when you forget a period or add a comma somewhere buy accident, then eventually break on some update when they switch to json/lua/yaml/flavor-of-the-month parsers. You guys always make the stupidest arguments for Linux too. There's a lot of great reasons to use Linux, but "it just werks" isn't one of them.

My definition of a power user is someone who doesn't run random files and hope something works :^)

Why are you replacing 'games' with 'programs'? Unfortunately, game devs tend to not make things playable on Linux, this has nothing to do with programs in general.

>I use it on a daily basis and have for years
Complete bullshit, the amount of trouble you are obviously having performing simple tasks says otherwise

>software is not in the repository

well shit, now you have to go find it as well.

What is NuGet lol.

Except I'm not saying that Linux is hard and it should be, I'm saying you are too stupid to get through a simple installer. Have you successfully installed Windows before, or did you just buy a gaming laptop with it preinstalled?

M8, if your only argument is "nuh-uh, I don't believe you use Linux!" Then you don't have much of one to make.

Why would I have to make an argument if I already have one?
Nice sentence structure, now go back to exclusively using Windows because Call of Duty doesn't work on install.

Uh-oh, someone's confusing configuration with installation

But I like using my mouse instead of my keyboard :^)

sudo passwd root

oh nooo, 2 hard 4 me.

Your post literally just shows how dumb you are.

>Complaining about sentence structure and call of duty

a developer-only feature

Did you read my post? I'm addressing Linux complexity and installation as separate topics.

>No justification for your retarded windows-only logic

I don't even use Windows, I don't know why you'd think I advocate windows-only.

You complained about not being able to use certain Windows programs on Linux which has nothing to do with installation and configuration files

le Counter-signal memey for le fashy goyim ;^)

Good thing that complaint was a separate topic in a separate paragraph then.

Whereas most linux users will be somewhat proficient at Windows. ;)

Windows is harder to install than Ubuntu, you seem to have no knowledge at all about computer monkeying

Sure senpai
>I literally haven't mentioned a single reason to use Linux while bashing it in every post, but I have used Linux every day for years

I addressed both your points
>IF IT'S SO EASY WHY CAN'T IT INSTALL SOFTWARE WRITTEN FOR A SEPARATE OS

HAHAHAH GOOD ONE BRO
CAN'T EVEN INSTALL STUFF WITHOUT SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR 5000 YEARS

I obviously wouldn't keep using it if I didn't feel it was worth it.

It's not niche

See: Android, aka normie/linux. It even has a desktop version, retart.

The typical "UNIX workstation but better" linux distro is MEANT to be niche, despite the absolutely fucking retarded, developmentally disabled, slow in the mind, double digit IQ idiot nerds that keep telling you it's fine because they only post on Sup Forums, run terminal IRC clients (leeter), and jerk off to faux minimalism.

Looks like you've conceded and resorted to shit-posting.

I will add this to my list of internet arguments won then, if you don't mind.

Ok windoze shills. Linux is harder to use, keep away from it. We don't want your retarded asses asking dumb questions all the time in any ways.

Linux in a nutshell

>install programs all day errday ez peasy
>hmm time to do some clean up
>uninstall program
>out goes dependencies
>out goes working nix installation

wouldn't fucking touch this bastardization of OSes if my life depended on it.

wiki.debian.org/DebianSoftware#fnref-59b1a6a24cc7f124d6c7b11f4930cbca3df1145f
read up nigger

As long as this thread taught you basic Googling skills
>things that never happen

>read this in depth wiki guide on how to do something that would take you 3 clicks on windows

Let's not be disingenuous, Android is more Java then anything else.

Shill harder. My linux workstation is much much more secure, productive and enjoyable to use than Windows one can ever be.
Yeah, that never happens.

>things that happen literally all the fucking time

More productive than running random files

Are you retarded?

I'm capable in both.

Windows for user shit like documents, web-browsing, games, watching movies. Basically ease of use.

Linux for server related shit like samba, ldap, apache, web-hosting, media-hosting, etc. Shit where you need to enter text files, add your own shit to get shit working.

Do you linux shills really think that your average "lel I luv tech xD" retard (read: 95%+ of the worlds population) have the intelligence needed (which is not a lot) to correctly set up a system through editing text config files without fucking up? Because I don't.

And less productive than running windows.

Yeah? You have used Linux over and over again and that happens to you everytime? Sorry dude

You're right if you wrote sudo apt-get install php5, not install php5
