Is the new GTX 1070 overkill for 1080p gaming? I have no interest in getting new monitors, but my GTX 960 couldn't max out the new Batman or Tomb Raider.

Definitely not. Should be just right.
Please use the in the future.

>nvidiot

get polaris

>Is the new GTX 1070 overkill for 1080p gaming?
Probably yes. We do not have gaming benchmarks yet, but if extrapolate from the GTX 1080 benches, you should be able to get 50-60FPS in Witcher 3 on 1440p. That makes the GTX 1070 overkill for 1080p.

>>amd

get a job

Paying $379 for 60fps at 1080 for all games

Vs

Paying $199 for 60fps at 1080 for all games

Cuck

>Is the new GTX 1070 overkill for 1080p gaming?

No, games will continue to push the envelope and even at 1080p the old cards will slowly see reductions in performance.

GTX 1070 should get you 60 fps in Rise of the Tomb Raider with everything turned to maximum.

One thing to keep in mind is benchmarks are done at 100% load on the GPU. That means higher temps and fan speeds.

Personally, I prefer my GPU to have a little slack. 80-95% utilization leads to lower temps and less noise. Makes for a more peaceful gaming experience.

>Overkill
In the age of shitty ports that need massive graphical horsepower to run decently and texture mods get as much power as you can get

VRAM is going to matter more in the next couple of years, and if you have the 2gb 960 it might slow you down.

AMD has heating issues though.

nice meme

Polaris cards are going to be $349+
Source, investors sliders give out by AMD.

Actually it's nvidia this time.

>tfw I've used and dealt with both cards in multiple systems I've built for people
>tfw both cards can heat up to 80c doing the same task
I know it's anecdotal, but from personal experience, depending on the series you get, one or the other is going to have more heating problems.
One year it's amd, another it's nvidia, get over it and stop shilling/fanboying a specific brand.

>he believes nvidia runs cool

Yes get a 390x which uses slightly less power and renamed polaris as its miles better than a 1070, Oh hang on..
arstechnica.co.uk/gadgets/2016/04/amd-polaris-will-be-a-mainstream-gpu/

Itll be more than 60 fps actually.
Posting the term "cuck" shows you are a child.

Nvidia has this amazing technology in all their graphics cards that means you can own one with crying like a bitch 24/7 online about graphics cards.

It's amazing and well worth the price premium.

are you retarded?

>Actually it's nvidia this time.

are you guys fucking retarded?

Stop playing shit games and your problems get solved.

Boot up the witcher 3 or something and play a good game.

What about 144hz? Not overkill for that at all.

He wont answer user as he fucked up posting that bollocks in the 1st place.

Are you?

...

NVIDIOTS BTFO
NVIDIOTS ON SUICIDE WATCH
IT'S OVER

There's a reason why AMD and Nvidia are still in business. They're on equal levels. Anyone who thinks one is better than the other is retarded.

>Posting the term "cuck" shows you are a child.
getting triggered by the workd "cuck", shows you're a cuck

Do you mean in overall value or particular features?

I live in warm climate. what are the chances my house will burn down if I buy a 1080 for rendering?

> what are the chances my house will burn down if I buy a 1080 ?

All of the chances

7.5%

about three fiddy

No just use VSR/DSR
It's fucking sweet
That makes it not good enough for 1440p, so sensible for 1080p especially at higher framerates

I'm sort of in the 960 price range but there's this seller on Ebay who's shitting out new MSI 970s for £200. Is this a great deal? I'm guessing the 1070 will be like £300 and the 1060 won't come out for ages and may or may not be more powerful than the 970 (will it?).

Good one
Good one

I think so. I'm going to get one for my 1080p monitor, but I plan on using it for vr as well. Currently have an r9 380 and want something better for vr.

What's the size / dimension of a gtx1070?

I'm kinda having a hard time finding the specifics

I lived in a tropical country
My Gtx 280 reached during gaming 90C

Took 4 years to die

1070 will not be able to run pure directX12 games from 2017 at 60fps in 1080p.

Alan Wake and Hitman says hello.

>Buy 1070
>Not install Win10

Dont want it in the first place.

Maybe in the next 4 years I'll consider, i dunno maybe Vulkan is now the new thing, but not now or even next year.

>GTX 1080 cost $909 in Canada

>7.5%
fucking lel'd

someone has to pay tax for the immigrants idiot

And I was already complaining about my $851 pricing on the founder's edition in my 3rd world shithole Philippines

Shit I'm getting a 1080 for 1080p until I get a 4k monitor.

i have a 970 and can still max pretty much every game at 1080p, 1070 sounds like an ultra meme unless you want to gayme at 144hz or something like that.

if you already have a 28nm gpu, better to just wait for volta and vega. everything we've seen of pascal and polaris so far has been disappointing.

most importantly can it handle 60 fps on three 1080p monitors

960 fag here. Thinking about getting a 1070 and maybe a 27" 1440p 144hz monitor depending on benchmarks

3x1080p = 5760x1080 = (3*4k)/4 = 2880x1620
Since the 1070 is slightly better than a 980ti and the 980ti run 3840x2160 at over 60fps on most games then you should probably be fine.

>3840x2160
3840x1440*

About a 1080% chance

What would be the next logical upgrade from SLI 780 Ti's for 1440p?

Vega flagship TBA October.

>AMD

no thanks raja!

no amd pls

theres no benchmark, this whole thread and all posts including this is useless

Vega or 1080ti
Whichever fits your budget and whichever performs better
Maybe even wait for a 1080 price cut

CURRENTLY, yes, but pretty much every previously released "1440p" card is only good for 1080p at this point. Case in point the 280x was released as a 1440p card, but now it gets 40-50FPS at 1080p. Additionally, the PS4K is coming out with a rumored Polaris 10 GPU, so you can bet that the requirements for 1080 are going to rise significantly over the next three years.
