I've been completly out of the loop since "fire burning on the dance floor". So how do the manufacturers try to fuck you over nowadays, what should I look out for?

Which is a lie, because there is 4GB when you need it, it just utilizes a very slow ~512MB. Honestly, you're better off hoofing it to the GTX980. You can overclock some of the better non-ref coolers and achieve near 980 Ti performance.
I get it, but hey, anything better will cost 1.5 as more, and I don't really see the point.
It seems to be Ok in that price range so I don't really see any other choice.
Besides I am planing to sell it later, when I'll have more cash for a complete upgrade, cause currently I have a nigger rig, that was put together over the years with cheap or free stuff

the 1070 is $380, $50 more than the 970. the 980 is ~$500.
I would say the 970 is a fantastically priced card for the power. A lot of hyperbolic retards will tell you it's worst thing since polio because of the 3.5 controversy, though.
I would do what this user said and wait a short while for the next gen of cards before making your choice.

1070 has HEVC hardware decoding & VP9 hardware decoding, it's just silly to buy a 970

Really you want a 390 if you're getting something from the last gen, but 1060 should offer 970 performance at a much lower wattage and with more features. Don't forget about the 480 as well
