Hey Sup Forums my parents are throwing away a nice pair of speakers, the main console has a broken screen (from humidity I guess)

Uses these ports in picture.

How could I connect them to my computer? They are very nice, and would like to use them.
It is a real shame having to throw them away.

>the main console

that's an amp you retard

and yes, you need an amp

buy a lepai 2020a

Speaker

Calm down you autistic fuck, it isn't a big deal, just didn't come to my head.

> nice pair of speakers

Wasn't talking about the looks, yes they don't look great. I was talking about the sound, they sound good.

You need an audio interface like an amp, to both manage input into the speakers and to drive them. It takes more power than a tiny set of headphones to make speakers go BOOM BOOM BOOM.

Probably not bad either. Boom box stereos are notorious for their boomy bass is all, reason why they're only used for fm and MP3 quality input.

We have a 600W system like it that is just collecting dust in our garage because of it.

I just negated myself.

nice trip faggot

>didn't realize he needed something to drive the speakers
>thought he could drive them from a line signal
>thinks some shitty samsung speaker is 'nice'

you MUST be over 18 years of age to post here

Ok I see what you guys mean.
Would something like this be good?

Can I manage the audio through my OS or do I need to use the amp?

Also, would this justify keeping the speakers? I doubt I can get speakers that are better than these for $30

kek

Yea man, these are pretty good. Sup Forums is hating on them but I will be hiding them somewhere anyways so the looks don't matter to me.

I am over the age of 18. I was looking for responses like this Not your memes.

...

You're on the right track but go ask the headphone general thread (Sup Forums.org/g/hpg) for amp suggestions. Note how you'll have to clip the connectors off of the speaker wire, strip a bit of insulation and insert the wires directly into the amp. That's very simple.

You should just set your OS to 100% volume and level EQ. Use the amp to adjust.

Yes, you might as well keep the speakers. You can always buy better ones later.

nah

Nobody said anything about the looks.
The speakers are bad because they're shitty speakers, not because of the looks.

Fucking tripshitter. Sage.

Okay
What makes them shitty? Plus it's not like I can get anything good for $30

SMSL SA-36 if you don't want a shit looking amp.

amazon.com/SMSL-Component-Amplifier-Black-SA-36A/dp/B017W13OR0/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1465579929&sr=1-1&keywords=smsl sa 36

If you don't mind the lepai looks, it's also fine.

why not ask Arianna, Ramona, Leonardo, or Leonel?

What?

WHY NOT ASK ARIANNA, RAMONA, LEONARDO, OR LEONEL?

>what is impedance

You need to get an amp that can actually drive those speakers correctly, so you need to either google the boombox they came from or look on the back near the speaker input to find the impedence

Thanks senpai, I appreciate you guys actually giving advise.

I'll pick one up whenever I have a chance.

Should be good enough for what I need.

>what is impedance
Lol, those are low power, any cheap amp can drive them.

I didn't realize I was browsing reddit. Thanks for the cancer.

Who are those people?

Oh now I know who you are, haha.

>Who are those people?

I think you know.

Fuck man, don't know if I should keep them or dump them.

You quoted me hereI only brought up the reason that they may suck is because they have boomy bass. It will suck, but hooked to a proper amp with EQ might help the sound.

But to be honest. Boombox speakers design has not changed their weird design for a decade. It all looks like gamer shit and would be an anomaly wherever a person place it.

I know who you are also, don't be a dick, you don't scare me the slightest. You gave yourself away with that screenshot.

They are most likely better than any pc speakers up to $100. Just because they are low power doesn't mean they are bad. If you like how they sound, keep them.

youtube.com/watch?v=i8a3gjt_Ar0

I think these cost like $150, the AMP still works the screen is just messed up. Maybe there are some test that I can put it through to decide if I should keep them or not. Thanks bro.

;^)

If the reciever still works, you should be able to hook it up to the pc.

The AMP still works, yes. I would just have to operate it with no screen.

Just to give you a real answer OP, here's what you need to do:

Look on the stereo/online for the specs for that stereo so you can see how much power you need to drive each speaker. If you can find literally nothing look to see if the stereo lists how many watts it is, divide that by 2 and you have how much per-channel wattage the speakers need (assuming the stereo had only two full range speakers, e.g. a 500w Mini-system = 250W/Channel).

Go on Amazon or wherever and find an amp that can put out that much power per channel and accepts a standard Auxiliary input (either 3.5mm or 1/4" jack ideally)

Get a 3.5mm audio patch cable of the desired length (and adapter if necessary), plug one end into your PC's standard speaker out, and the other into your amp, connect the speakers (you'll probably need to rip off the plugs and strip the wires, make sure you match Red to the positive end) and there you go.

It's a bit more complex than simply that of course, if you google around there are things like resistance (most speakers should be rated about 8ohms though), and that can vary as well, but generally you should be ok.

So what? Like you need visual aid to turn a volume knob. Give it a go.

$100 retail for the entire thing means corners are cut everywhere.
The speakers are an afterthought, the target market doesn't care about anything besides "muh 1000 watts" and "muh bass", so you get crappy frequency response, crappy efficiency, distortion, and overall bad quality.

monoprice.com/product?p_id=8250

Will this be enough? Thanks man, I appreciate all of that a lot.

It was like $150 I think, could have been slightly more.

Lepai is enough, you don't need 250w per fucking channel for those speakers, christ.

lol u pleb, just fix the console/amp it probly some led backlight issue. ffs op ur a new. do you even own a multimeter m8?

give them back tyrone

I don't know if it's enough, your picture doesn't list the wattage on the amp and I don't know what the speakers are rated at. You're gonna have to look up the specs to find that out.

If you already did and the wattage is enough and it has the proper inputs then sure.

>need
That's not how it works. The power the speakers "need" depends on how loud you want them to be. For normal listening volume in your home even 2x5W is very, very likely to be enough with some decent speakers.

160watts

>Front speaker output 80 W/CH (4 Ω/100 Hz)
You'll want to find an amplifier that matches this spec then, and has an input you can connect to your PC with.

electronica-pt.com/esquema/func-download/22794/chk,60fc57bd7c164856c6897c2eb4147a7e/no_html,1/

service manual, circuits, troubleshooting charts, etc. 21mb rar file.

amazon.com/ONEU-amplifier-Stereo-Booster-Supply/dp/B019MBUX40/ a quick Amazon search suggests this should work. Has outputs out the arse as well. The LP2020-A is only 20W/channel

If you wanna use another amp just remove the stupid connectors and screw them directly in. done.

yee this desu senpai. op get ur parents to buy that amp and pay them back. hopeful u goys have amazion brime, otherwise u need a larger order. with ur skill level i doubt you could isolate the issue with the samsung poz box, plus u likely don't have the tools or experience. 20 shrekels vs hours of work and potientally shocking urself on capatisotrs.

>getimg.jpg

top baka, did u hack the world meme database bruh?

bitch i am the world meme database

plz share m8. u hydrus senpai?

I can do it, I have plenty of money haha.

I can get this amp then, thanks man.

So final conclusion, how shitty are the speakers?

it's coils of wire and a diaphragm, what more to want m8, they are already riced to hell and back.

What's wrong man? I saw what you did with the voice mail shit, lmao. You think your big bad and scary huh fat ass? Your such a stupid loser, your world can get ugly real fucking fast in a moments notice. I really have to thank you for that screenshot, just looking at your Mac OSX made me realize who you were.

Yea I guess man. I just dont wanna be disappointed.

lol u still don't get it m8. the amp defines the quality of the sound, as long as u have a working coil and no holes in diaphragm it will be fine, as you see in the thread it was determined what watts ur speakers were designed for. too much watt/amp could burn up the lil wire in the coil.

if ur worried about sound u can move the speakers into a new wooden case.

youtube.com/watch?v=aD9xqHKI6xM

in b4 audiophile general.

I get it man, thanks.

>the amp defines the quality of the sound

like it matters to the OP. i simply mean if he had a shitting amp it would make shitty noise. the circuit in the amp is more complex than the circuit of speakers.

i bet u have suber fat snek cables with ceramic risers.
