Give me one reason why I shouldn't install Debian on my ThinkPad?
Give me one reason why I shouldn't install Debian on my ThinkPad?
Crickets from me. Debian is the best Linux distro, aside from maybe CentOS.
Because better, more modern yet as stable and especially systemd-less alternatives exist.
because the neets will mock you for using a distro that works
Debian supports other inits
I've been hearing about ThinkPads a lot recently.
How do they compare for devfags like me who bought rMBPs for development work?
Because it has shitty default configs
Go for it
No. We only mock the 'elitest' Arch users in these parts.
Sure, but you risk instabilities and lose official support.
Yeah, I mean I haven't used Debian in like 8 years but it's not that bad. Systemd cancer infects too many people these days.
Do what you want you fucking validation-seeking retard.
Jesus Christ, these threads should be an autoban.
Because you haven't flashed Libreboot on it yet
Fedora is better
If you really want to use apt-get just use Ubuntu
Test
Because for me, on my thinkpad, audio was fucked up and it was a pain in the ass to even attempt to fix.
CentOS isn't that good on the desktop, though. For a business workstation, sure, but not a personal machine.
Install Ubuntu server and slap a DE on it. Oh and libreboot you fucking nigger
This.
Fedora is the absolute best distribution for the desktop.
why
Cause Gentoo exists
Debian doesn't have any advantages over Ubuntu. Ubuntu does have minor advantages over Debian, like proprietary wifi drivers being installed by default and nicer default desktop themes. Debian cucks itself to Richard Stallman even though the FSF still won't endorse Debian because they give instructions for installing non-free software.
>Implying proprietary software by default is better
Aren't Ubuntu's updates like a week behind Debian? Why would anyone use Ubuntu when there's Debian?
This. Gentoo ftw. Although I have heard of some Thinkpads having issues when it comes to hardware support. Not sure if that's just pebcak though. It usually is.
It is better in every way unless you're a free software cuck. Having no proprietary wifi drivers on a laptop means you have to go plug into ethernet and then install the driver. Why not just have it work by default? Other than that Ubuntu and Debian are indistinguishable, except for the fact that Xfce looks like complete crap in Debian while it looks pretty good in Xubuntu.
What are the benefits of using Debian over Ubuntu? No meme answers please
ubuntu is a snapshot of debian testing/unstable with a theme pack
don't listen to this idiot
because its not gentoo
install gentoo
/thread

Good luck receiving no "(You)"s
I can't user.
Arch>Debian
debian sid > arch > debian
Enjoy your dependency sodomy
Mint or Debian, all else is trash
Kek.
Enjoy your russian backdoor.
Mint is trash.
It doesn't respect your freedoms enough.
tfw best distribution for the desktop doesnt have compton in its repositories , therefore making lxde/xfce/mate and most WM the definition of tearing
No.
delet this
Windows work, Debian not.
Old as fuck packages, you could run sid but at that point it'is better to just use an actual rolling release distro and not just a testing one.
because you are retarded
j/k
Thanks for informing me.
are there any benefits from doing that apart from muh freedoms?
it's a gimped ubuntu at this point
>you could run sid but at that point it'is better to just use an actual rolling release distro
Literally zero difference.
"experimental" is Debian's testbed, not sid.

Actually both are Debian's testbed
Reported for having an IQ lower than 100.
Congrats.
Using Debian Sid over Arch is retarded. Sid freezes so you'll have months of no new interesting updates.
Because Fedora is a better desktop distro.
