i did google this first but with windows 10 it seems like there is a lot of misinformation or abnormalities

so here goes

i currently have an i5 4690k and a matching board, windows 10

i have an i7 6700k and matching board on their way to my house via newegg.

presuming i drop in the new hardware, there will likely be some driver issues between boards but utilizing tools like driver sweeper and the like i don't forsee a problem there, but my question is, will windows deactivate? i have a legit upgrade from a previous 7 install/build

i'm not entirely sure how the 'free upgrade' program works in regards to whether i actually own the license or key.

please and thanks

The windows 10 key is tied to your motherboard

ok so how do i preserve it?
if i change my motherboard, i need my copy of windows to main legitimate, of course

Talk to Microsoft, see what they say, otherwise buy a new copy of Windows.

fuckin' pajeets. alright, thanks

Alright, /sqt/, so I've been getting these issues ever since I got a new GPU in my PC. On startup, my PC often crashes and requires several restarts to boot properly.
On certain occasions, applications become unstable, such as Google Chrome, or Steam, malfunctioning or simply not wanting to open.
Pic related, it's a blue screen I took a day or two ago, the blue screen error varies.

Does it still do it if you remove the new GPU?
Run memtest

It didn't happen before the new GPU
I actually couldn't hook up the new GPU with the cables that came with it, so instead, I unplugged the cables from my GTX 580, and into my new GPU.

Just because it didn't happen before the new GPU doesn't mean you didn't fuck something up installing it

What do you think I'm trying to figure out?

How does the game controller manage to power on the console when it's turned off? Is it always listening for some particular on signal even when "off" to accomplish this? Does it sip power to do so?

I dunno m8, but you're getting a memory error and problems generally not directly related to a GPU so I told you to test your memory and you seemed to ignore it.

Did the Sup Forums ftp server die?

Yes, it takes a small amount of power to wait for a turn on signal.

Like I said, the error varies.
Another error is PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

I put my new build in my newegg shopping cart last night, figured I'd think it over for a day.

Today I come back to buy but the refurb motherboard has sold out (msi 970). There are no other great motherboards for around that price ($60), and the new-in-box is $98.

which is retarded because at that price I'd just buy a board with the 990 chipset instead, which would be an upgrade

question is: do you think newegg will stock another refurb msi 970?

That can also be related to memory

Maybe so.

I have some extra fans laying around

would this layout work or is it dumb

W10 is free, you wont have a problem with it.

Otherwise just crack 7 and get your free W10 copy.

Both top fans should be exaust not intake.
Hot air goes up.

I'm recovering a lost NTFS hard drive with lots of files (music, image sets, etc.) using Testdisk (Debian live). When I tried undeleting the entire partition it seems to dump everything into one folder. Is that how it's supposed to work? Can I specify for the Testdisk undeletion to include the folder structure?

could be a problem with your hard drive (maybe your SSD is starting to go haywire)

the problem could be completely separate from your GPU and just be your hard drive, maybe ur PC is having trouble booting from that hard drive

i am just taking a wild guess, i have no idea

Run MEMTEST.

970 is da best, just pay the $99

amazon.com/dp/B00LUY72F6/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_e7JxxbZ9QM83T

>question is: do you think newegg will stock another refurb msi 970?
idk

Windows 10 is technically not free, its just a free upgrade. You have to pay for (legitimate) new licenses.

what's the cheapest way to get it?

see
Install and crack windows 7, update till you get the windows 10 update notification and you get a legitimate copy.

r/microsoftsoftwareswap

For a new rig should I get a legitimate copy of Windows 7/8.1 or a cracked ver if I dont want Windows 10?

Up to you m8, doesn't really matter either way besides your irrelevant sense of morality.

Okay nevermind. It seems to be extracting to subfolders, just surprised by a bunch of stuff I found on the root

I was being a retard today and fucking around inside my case while my computer was on. I accidentally shorted something. PC turned off when I booted it back up it gave me a CMOS error and bumped me to my UEFI bios. I closed that without making any changes and then it booted up and has been running normally all day. What should my trouble shooting process be? Somebody recommended resetting my bios but I don't want to set up my boot order and all that if there are other options that might be an easier fix.

aah thanks

>I accidentally shorted something.
ooh shit nigga wat r u doing?!?

>qbittorrent giving me I/O errors on a file that was already fully downloaded
>when I try to watch it in a media player it freezes at that spot
>try to copy it across somewhere else and says it could not read from the disk after getting to that same spot (it gets 97% through then freezes)

>chkdsk says everything is fine

The fuck is happening? Second time this has happened now.

For some reason, my computer has been freezing and then turning off automatically starting today. When it powers off, it tries to turn itself back on. Strangely, it powers up, turns on the fans, but then powers down before the POST beep until it eventually gets it.

I doubt it's the graphics card, as games run smoothly at max settings with 120 FPS with no artifacting or anything abnormal. It's probably not RAM related since those problems don't tend to cause immediate crashes that lead into a restart without some sort of log. Device Manager and Event Viewer don't show anything that lead to software issues.

It MIGHT be the PSU, but I'd figure a PSU problem would involve shit just turning off completely. Sometimes, my computer hangs with looped audio forever until I forcefully turn it off. It MIGHT be an overheating issue, but I don't know why it'd start today. My temps tend to hang around 50C and don't get anywhere near the auto-shutoff point unless speedfan is lying to me.

I know Sup Forums isn't techsupport, but advice to where and how I can diagnose this issue would be neat.

>it booted up and has been running normally all day

So the problem is resolved is what you are saying here, right?

>What should my trouble shooting process be?

Uhm, I dont get it. It boots up and runs normally, what is there to troubleshoot exactly?

I was doing redoing cable management after I cleaned out my case and one of my SATA cables popped loose and hit my 980 and the computer shut off.
It's still giving me a CMOS error every time I boot up but there doesn't seem to be anything affected after I exit the BIOS.

Sounds terribly mobo related. Check all the standoffs and mount points to make sure you aren't shorting out.

If it's clear, then you can replace one component at a time to see what resolves it. Hopefully you have some recent builds with similar enough components.

Don't rule out the RAM quite yet, that shit can be, how do you say - irrational- to diagnose at times.

>It's still giving me a CMOS error every time I boot up

Try doing a cmos reset jumper or switch once, but otherwise you might want to reseat EVERYTHING and run through ALL the bios settings once

I suppose it's not impossible for it to be the RAM. I'll run Memtest overnight, which should tackle quite a few problems. If my PC randomly turns off during Memtest, that'll narrow things down a bit. And then I'll open the case and cleans shit out.

Alright I'll do that tomorrow, thanks for your time.

Does Moore's law apply to price as well as performance? ie: every 18 months something new with equivalent performance to something 18 months old would cost half as much?

I'm trying to partition my drive to install Linux onto my windows desktop. Using the disk management utility, I partitioned my C:/ drive to give me 200GB for Linux. However, when I try to format the unallocated space, I'm told I've reached the number of possible partitions. Knowing that's bullshit, I tried to convert it into a dynamic disk, but I'm told I "Don't have enough space," What the hell is this fuckery, Sup Forums? Pic related.

Beets is comfy. Calibre sucks.
Is there a beets-type organizer for ebooks n shit?

Does color matter when choosing a case? Is it purely for aesthetic?
E.g. computer, laptop, phone

red makes it faster

How do I get purple knockout gas?

More gaymen LEDs = faster.

Black stuff is often better, but not because it's black.

no

yes

Moved to linux on my laptop a few days ago.
Can't figure out how to download books from irc on xchat. HydraIRC /just werked/.
When I send the command to download the file nothing happens.
>!name file

Also would be interested in a recommended qemu guide

Why?
I'm tired of black or dark gray equipment.

Any humans?

Your hard drive is dying. Start backing shit up and run a badblocks scan.

What's the best ffmpeg frontend? Call me a pleb all you want, sometimes a GUI is better than CLI for setting up the very specific settings I want for my encodes.

Don't format it in Windows. Boot into your Linux distro and format it from there, that way you can take advantage of the glory that is ext4.

I do not have a linux repo on this PC, only one on my laptop.

Is there a utility linux distro I could chuck on a USB for doing maintenance shit? I am sure I remember having one before but the name escapes me

>Windows 10 on Surface Pro 4
>Run some low resolution game
>Close it
>All desktop icons have rearranged themselves in an unholy mess
How can I prevent this?

Orks have taught me that this is only true if you believe it to be.
No, and look up Moore's Law real quick. Number of transistors is not 1:1 with performance.

Mostly any bootable OS will have badblocks, but specifically maybe the GParted live disk.

pls

use windows 7

I believe 7 would do that too.

Will getting apk files from this site give my phone autisms?

Hi Sup Forums
I'm looking for an alternative to google maps GPS for android.
Is waze a good one? Why does it needs so much permissions?

What's the name of this song?

youtube.com/watch?v=6uWr56ZzpQA&feature=youtu.be

Waze is owned by Google ya dingus. It would be nice to have one that does waypoints. Does this exist? I need it before I return to Yurop.

I have a .SLM file from work. It is a store POS Menu. It is password protected, and prompts for password after it is executed to open.

How can I crack it? Corporate doesn't want us editing it ourselves, but I have too.

Please help.

Why do you need to edit it?

Are there any ffmpeg wizards here? I require your help. I want to embed a set of subtitles from one video file into another one. I've searched for a GUI to do this but none of them can complete this simple task, so I assume that I must do this using CLI now. What runes would I input to get the output I desire?

they changed the panel layout and let a third party design it. I also like to add my own coupons and specials. I use it every day, i feel like i have a better sense of what it should look like and how it should flow.

Panel layout doesn't change the barebones of the menu, just physical look for the employee's use.

Thanks for the info.
desu, I want to change because google maps gps does not works any more.
Is Yurop a good one?

You want to take the subs from one video and put them into another video? Is that right? Not subs that are separate from the video?

I know how to do the latter, and I know how you could split the subs from the original video that contains subs. There is definitely some way of getting the subs out but I cannot be fucked trying to work it out.

You would end up with something like this except somehow stripping the audio and video from the file that contains the subs.
ffmpeg -threads 2 -i %1 -i %2 -vcodec copy -acodec copy "%~n1.mkv"

Yeah, Europe is a pretty good continent.

Thought it was another GPS name.

How do I enjoy vr porn on the Samsung Gear VR? I bought it to enjoy a cheap VR experience and so far it's been nice but the only thing I haven't tried is VR porn.

How did I do, Sup Forums?

Is programming perceived as a young man's game or it it just to scare people away?

>Is that right?
Yeah. I have one low-quality video with good subs and another high-quality video with no subs. I seek to solve this problem.
And in searching around more, I just found FFQueue, which actually seems to be exactly what I want. Probably not complex enough to do the really cool stuff with ffmpeg, but it's good enough for me.
Thanks for the help, though.

Looks fine.
For all the money you're putting into this, you might want to put more into the motherboard, but what you have there will work.
I'm not up on 1151 mobos so I don't have any suggestions, either.

MKVToolNix GUI.

It can take longer to get going if you don't start young, and adults with obligations may never find the time for it.

Actually I wanted to overclock it to the 4.0-4.1 point, then save some more for 1080 Ti (I'm going to have enough anyway by the moment it'll have been released). Not sure if it's a good idea. This will probably be enough for 3 or 4 years straight.

Is there a way to get the Sup Forums downloader to stop reading the title after the thread number? It fucks up and I have to delete the title every time.

I want to create a VM with Windows 7 on Linux host for non-resource-intensive games that don't work in Wine (mostly VNs).
I am unable to do GPU passthrough because of hardware reasons.
I'm still going to use KVM.
Do I use QEMU or Virtualbox? I heard that QEMU overall works better, but Virtualbox has some limited support for non-passthrough GPU acceleration.

>VNs
I hope you get better.

QEMU + Spice.
VBox is shit.

If I have some .7z files that I want to try to brute force, what's my best option as far as program to use?? I have Windows and Linux systems, and I'm planning on upgrading soon, so I can either go AMD or Nvidia if it's better for it. I have one file that I'm pretty sure is my old buttcoin wallet with a couple in it, and I have a couple that I'm pretty sure are pictures I'm definitely not supposed to see.

All the passwords are simple enough that it's viable, over the course of a few weeks to months.

What the hell is Spice? First time hearing about it.

A bash script that unzips using a dictionary of passwords, and file.
You're using linux right?

That would be faster than something GPU accelerated? But the problem is that I'm pretty sure the passwords are not going to be ones commonly found in the dictionary, like in-jokes or nonsense words and such. But yeah, I have Linux.

How can I bypass router access control, presumably set by time of day?

I just got a request to "properly mux" some subtitles. What exactly does this mean?

How big can my org-mode files get before I have problems? Should I just keep git committing them daily and not worry about it?

support monkey told me that I shouldn't connect my mouse to a usb hub or anythink like that but directly to the pc instead.
does it really make any difference?
I currently have my keboard plugged into the PC and the mouse + a controller in the usb port on the keyboard. any reason to change it?
