Buys a 1TB+ hard drive

>buys a 1TB+ hard drive
>keeps deleting large files as soon as possible so his drive doesn't "fill up"

How many of you display this autism?

Me. I've got a 1TB hard drive, used about 140 GB of it, yet I still feel the need to go through all my old documents and clean up what I haven't touched in years.

I fill my drives to the brim with memes and anime. Unused space is wasted space.

nice

When I fill up a hdd I just buy another one.

Yep

...

I have >3tb of images from my camera yo, high res images take up mucho space. Of course I delete some.

wtf is delete?
guys....

>Wow, a 20GB HDD, I'll never be able to fill half of it.
>13% free space by upgrade time

>Wow, a 100GB HDD, I'll never be able to fill half of it.
>17% free space by upgrade time.

>Wow, a 500GB HDD, I'll never be able to fill half of it.
>12% free space by upgrade time.

>Wow, a 1TB HDD, I'll never be able to fill half of it.
>24% free space right now.

I got 2x 2TB Samsung drives that are pretty much always full.

Pain in the arse when I need to delete shit to make way for more shit.

I should do this. Anybody should do this who has a decently sized collection of files they care about.

Windows is too vulnerable, and it is a pain in the ass to deal with file permissions when reinstalling or upgrading Windows versions.

Better to put everything on a server running a nearly bulletproof OS and then fetch everything through the network. Local network speeds can be fast enough now that there will be no real difference in access speeds.

i'm the opposite, i only seek out things to delete once i've hit 0 B remaining

A while back I was short on space so now I have a RAID6 array of 8x3TB drives. That should be just under 17 real, usable, terabytes. So far about 6.5TB is used.

I delete movies after watching them, thats it.

I was a data hoarder. I had 40TB of pirated shit. I eventually came to the conclusion I had enough shitty mediocre entertainment to entertain me until the day I died if I did nothing but watch the shit I had hoarded.

I deleted pretty much everything except a few nostalgia TV series and and classic rewatchable anime series like logh. I now delete stuff as soon I've watched it or just stream from netflix etc. Don't have enough free time to consume massive amounts of entertainment.

This.
If you aren't using at least 99% of your capacity at all times you don't belong on Sup Forums

>bought 4TB drive
>filled it up in a week

Fuck.

If something is on my disk it means
1) it's worth a rewatch
2) I plan to watch it in the very near future
Everything else is excess fat.
I don't hoard things that just because I'm afraid I can't find something in future.

It's not a cleaning of the hardware, it's a cleaning of your mind. Get organized.

Enjoy not finding it again in the future.

not me

trying super hard to fill mine up

Too much new things to watch and too little life left to worry about that.

So I'm doing this wrong then?

Yes. An easy way to remember is that if any of your drives are blue instead of red on windows, you're doing it wrong.

but SSDs are slower the more full they are.
You didn't fall for the HDD meme did you?

The only reason I: isnt more fuller is because its been running for 1099d 22h...

>literally just filled a 500gb hard drive
>wow I'll never be able to fill even half of a 1tb drive

...

I use to do this before people stopped optimizing shit. Before low data was a thing.but now a days 1TB for an average media consumer of any kind except music is very small. It's only a couple dozen movies and TV series if you're lucky. A single Bluray movie is around 1-5gb and on average a series is easily 10+Gb.

It's even worse if you play games. Days past we had great games sub 8gb but it seems overnight that 40gb was the standard. And then add mods? Damn mang. Data space is precious these days

Lmao

That's not autism, it's OCD.

I fell for that shit every time I upgraded. And even the last time when I got a 4TB drive. Fucking blame hd porn and anime.

I'm kind of old and grew up in a time when system resources were small so I became a Resource Nazi. I still go through my documents to clean out unneeded things every couple of months.

I just buy another drive if one fills up. Currently at 16tb.

Nope, I bought my drive to fill it. Ran out of space on my 4TB drive recently, time for another.

>not being a data hoarder is now 'autism'

That's not autism. I have a large desk but I still throw useless shit in the bin.

Why would I want to watch the same anime/porno more than once...? I would just stream it in the first place if stream quality wasn't such shit.

What backup system do you use? Four 4 TB extern hard drives?

>implying I don't have a hording problem

Where do I get so many memes? :(

got enough space for memes left.
Though I outsourced muh videos on an external hdd

I have a 7 year old 640 GB HDD as my only drive.
To this date I never managed to fill it.
I simply delete files I no longer use.

I use my drives without fear of them filling up, I don't "Try" To fill it up though. That is dumb. Here is my config

Similar situation here. My hard drives used to be all in the red, but in recent times I've done a little cleaning up and some of them actually have almost 100GB free now.

>not owning a 6tb hard drive

>feel when you run out of SATA ports

Time to replace my 1TB blue with a 6TB black.

What is a SATA expansion card

>Raid Card
>Bandwidth

>have 640 gb drive
>sorta full want to back up
>buy 2tb
>fill 2tb with backups and shit files
>buy another 2tb
>fill second 2tb
>still using 640
>fill flashdrives
>fill random small harddrives
mfw Im sitting on over 5tb of data and I dont use any of it but I "need" it still

well you are just fucking stupid.

I have folders of Sup Forums from 2008.
I can go back in time and browse the dankest memes while you are stuck in 2016.

I've had 1tb (from raid) sense 2004.

How the hell in the current year can you think 1tb is big?

And then you cry because only getting 50 MBps when you expected 125.

you have a hoarding problem

I use my SSD for basically everything except for what is on the 7200 rpm HDD. I don't delete things off the HDD either, only the SSD. Or I move stuff from the SSD to the HDD.

I know.

...

Wich is that distro?

...

The big one feels like it's dying. It's an older Seagate from like 2011 I think, BIOS isn't always picking up on it and files don't read from it too well anymore, always takes a while. Need to get that shit replaced.

I think this is completely normal. Also run cccleaner to keep it in check and defrag it every morning and every other night. Make sure to use proper golden laced sata cables though to prevent data corruption.

That's not really autism, because of the way a hard drive works, it's better to keep it freed up and defragged to the read head doesn't have to take forever to load.

Filthy data hoarding niggers

>w10
>better not do anything so as not to be suspicious!

user you should get DoubleSpace

it compresses your drive and creates more room out of nowhere

Kek.

Nope. I wait til I'm completely out of space and then panic and start deleting old shit I don't care about. Once I fill it up and can't bring myself to delete any more, I buy a new one.

Second one is half full, and it's mostly new stuff, so looks like I'll be buying another TB here in a couple months since I finally got rid of that fucking data cap.

>Defragged

The fuck are you using? Windows 98?

Since Win7 (maybe Vista), Windows automatically defrags as you use the system, which is why nobody runs the program any more. I honestly am surprised it's even still there.

10 Gb/s home LAN masterrace

I have a problem
And yes, my PC is named Adam
Consolidate your fucking data nigger. If you move shit around you could have an empty system drive and a TB with like 400GB free instead of this clusterfuck of free space.

At least he's got an SSD as his boot drive, i just switched from a full 160gb barracuda that was so slow.

I do delete stuff but only because I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

When I only had 1TB I was very skittish and deleted a lot of stuff but that's because every month I'd look and see I only had 100GB left.

Now that I've got a 2TB for storage I'm trying to be more relaxed about it.

Use LVM.

>Four 1TB drives
>No RAID

Fuck off willio
