their new cpus are coming out by christmas
What if I don't want to wait
Zen is just around the corner.
You are a fool if you buy now.
my 8350 hasn't done me wrong, but i wanna fucking experience VR. I don't wanna buy a jewtel cpu though.
buy one for 50 bucks on ebay and resell it when zen comes out
I got an fx6300 about a year and a half ago and I'm still dissapointed. there are intel i3's that cost less that blow the shorts off my fx6300.
then again I dont do any oc'ing
stop telling people about these, faggot
Does the 8350 not have enough power for vr?
Vive req specs say its an option but going from everything I've heard and been told , the answer is no.
Games devs cant into multicore.
It just wont happen in the next 10 years.
Seriously, don't do it.
my APU is VR ready, so if your 8350, dont let intel jew you out of your money friend
Systems specs and have you actually ran anything in VR?
My current system needs a new gpu badly (8350+GTX760) but even with that the other 8350 marks suck dick and even oculus doesn't list it as acceptable.
>games are poorly optimized for it
>half cores
Do I need to say any more for shit fps. Just stop and don't do it. Literally buying a meme. You get what you pay for on pc hardware m8 stop cheaping out
Make your own decisions you god damn autistic fuck
Would be cool if the 8350 could actually perform for vr, maybe I'll give it a go with the 480 when it launches then sue amd for false advertising when it doesn't actually fucking work.
>even thinking of supporting terrorism.
Why?
...
Spotted the Muslim faggot. Go enjoy fucking your goats.
the i3 blows it out the water, FX chips run like dogshit on cheap boards because you can't oc them without them throttling like fuck and if you do want a good board they start at $100 so gl with that one
buy Intel, tell AMD to go fuck itself. Buying 2012 AMD CPU right now based on the shittiest architecture since the P4 is a waste of fucking money
Most people are too autistic to accept that they perform insanely well just because they aren't the latest and greatest from intel and don't buy them regardless.
>AMD seems hotter
>AMD don't even measure in degrees and it's completely incomparable
0/10 fuck off
Or the Sup Forums browsing Nazi. They are surprisingly similar.
i3 cant compare to an APU thats 40% cheaper
ok lol

Holy crap.
Let's see... if I sell my second rig, can I afford to build a 2P system?
What do you think an i7 3770/12GB with a 7870 would go for?
why are you dissapointed ?
I have a fx6300 and im not dissapointed at all. Also i have a friend with a i3 and his PC is laggy as shit
>gt 940
>do you suffer from downs syndrome
and because of your almost certainly dog shit board with the worst VRM ever made, you can't even if you wanted to.
>projecting
Not just an option, but recommended
>Replies back with memes
Good work Muhammafaggot.
See webm related.
Which ver 2011 motherboard do I need to grab? Sure the CPU is cheap but most 2011 mobo's im finding still start at $200+
Doesnt really matter, the cpu is cheap but 2011 boards high cost pretty much makes up the difference in any $ you think youll save
Intel is backdoored.
What does that mean?
NOt him but intel has backdoor on cpus since Pentium 3.
There was also DEFCON talk about this in modern day cpus which i cant seem to find right now.
let me do some googling
>$300 motherboards
kek
There are ways to get the CPU up and running in your house for a lot cheaper than it looks, but let's not go there.
its a 2011 cpu you need a 2011 mobo, theres no super sekret hax you can do to a non 2011 mobo to make it work....
How much do you think I need to spend to get a whole system with one of these CPUs up and running in my house?
blog.invisiblethings.org
It's not only intel, amd have something similar.
Same as any other PC build.....
Completely depends on what you have for a budget/what you need it to do....
The problem with 2011 socket now a days is there are way more cpus then there are mobos for them... so the price of the 5 year old motherboards have shot up to $200-$400.
if you are dead set on that cpu you basically have to just google every day until you get lucky, or pay 250% markup
sandy and ivy bridge i5s and i7s are cheaper and would perfrom 10x better in games
I could "build" a system with that CPU for less than $400.
I had one for about 2 years now, and it works wonderfully. The only people who say this isn't good are Intel fanboys or people who want to wait for the next gen like and
Actually I just calculated a real build cost for using a e5-2670 v1 (and a little bit of ingenuity) and the overall price is about $338.
Scratch that. I did not include a GPU into my build. You could add something for about $60, but I would advise against it in favor of the other method.
Or you could get a 1231 v3 and a h81 motherboard for 290 and call it a day
zen
Zen you idiot
Then be an impatient bitch and waste your money
The CPU is still over $200. The h81 motheboards are pretty cheap at around $40, but where is the rest of the system to come in at $290?
I don't see any prebuilts using this CPU to use as a foundation. Do you plan on getting a generic ATX box with PSU built in for about $50? Not saying this is impossible, but I want to know if that's the direction you're going. And what about RAM and GPU?
$400-800 depending on who's buying it. I'd sell it starting at $550 or something like that. That'll get you a decent amount of money to start with. Buy a barebones Dell T5600 or T7600 on ebay and get 2 of those processors (or just get one of the Dells with the processors preinstalled if it's cheaper, but I doubt it will be).
>buy OK cpu now
>buy motherboard for $100
vs
>buy great cpu now
>buy even better cpu later
Okay, whatever. Fuck it.
Here's the cheapest way to use an e5-2670. As far as I can tell.
You will want to look for one of these three machines which all have motherboards with socket 2011 (v1).
>HP Z420
>Dell Precision T3600
>Lenovo Thinkstation D30
The Z420 is usually the cheapest of the group. You could buy this one for instance:
Now, the e5-1603 is a pretty good CPU already, so you -really- need to upgrade it unless you just want to.
cpubenchmark.net
Look closely at the TDP. 140 watts. That means the heatsink on there will be pretty nice, and you can look for more powerful CPUs for the socket and the cooler will not need to be upgraded. The e5-2670 has only a 115w TDP so it will be completely fine to swap out.
e5-2670 costs about $50 shipped on ebay and comes with thermal past.
Do the CPU swap and...well, that's it. You're done. You now have a small and very capable PC for around $400.
That ATI FirePro V4800 GPU is pretty modest and will not play any of the new games, but it's worth about $30. Sell it and put the money towards a Radeon HD 7850 that can play modern games, and which can go for around the same price or a little more ($10-15) on ebay if you buy it through an auction. Or upgrade to a RX 480 if you want something a lot more powerful.
>or just get one of the Dells with the processors preinstalled if it's cheaper, but I doubt it will be)
They were selling the dual CPU e5-2670 Precisions for less than $600 last week, but this week the price has been jacked up over $1000. I guess the sellers caught on.
Hmmm... what's the chance a 212 EVO will fit a T5600?
I'm just a talking for my personal case because I already have a full fx 8320 system that i can rip the motherboard out of
It's a really good CPU for highly threaded workloads, but as usual it's behind on single-thread performance (not that it really matters much).
Wait for Zen. They're a 40% performance increase.
sure 60 for the cpu 200 for the mobo 20$ for a case with included psu and 2gb ddr3 ram
Hardly a real build, unless where you live they just happen to have a bountiful supply of 2011 boards that arent advertised online for anything less then $300 else theyd be bought instantly
You could maybe get away with buying
>z420 motherboard ($150)
>e5-2670 ($50)
>hp cpu cooler ($40)
>hp PSU adapter ($10)
BUT I don't now if the z420 motherboard will mount in your case. It may require tapping a few holes in your case, and that will cost another $10. And there may be other unforseen issues.
But still, the e5-2670 is quite powerful and may be worth it.
You could maybe get away with a cheaper CPU cooler. Might have some errors on startup that require an F1 press to get past.
pretty likely desu, but if you get T5600 with heatsinks included they'll be more than enough. Up to you, you aren't going to be overclocking the CPU(s) obviously and precision are near silent stock. My T7500 with dual X5690s is quiet as fuck, as in quieter than my friend's mini-itx build.
Yeah I just checked myself and saw the same thing... I mean installing them yourself isn't too hard.
Stock 2P seems to start at ~$1k vs $420. Stock heat sink is $140. So 1P base with a $60 processor and a 212 EVO would look to be the way to go if it fits.
ebay.com
Throw another E5 2660 in there and call it a day or upgrade to dual E5 2670 and enjoy the extra single threaded performance. You can build this system cheap if you hunt for low prices on the parts, I promise you.
Just wait for the new chips.
What do they measure in? Kelvin?
Ugh, why did the RAM have to be registered? I have 16GB ECC RAM I'm not using, but I'm almost certain it's unbuffered.
It won't. Dell has a proprietary fan connector. The power connector will probably have to be shaved down a bit, and it will go on, but you will BIOS errors.
Probably will not affect performance, but it's annoying.
Why not just use one of Dell's coolers?
You can't just go with any old case on these type of motherboards. They are not ATX, and they use proprietary power connectors. You have be careful with your selections and know which adapter to buy for the PSU, if you can buy one at all.
Or you can get Dell 5 pin to 4 pin pwm cables for pretty cheap.
I might bag an FX 8350 when they hit the $100 mark or maybe get an Phenom II X6 1090T from e-bay. I've got a Phenom II x4 955 right now that works great. I don't really stress it much. My only multi-core apps other than windows 7 is Photoshop CS2 and maybe firefox. Most of my games are all older titles that use a single core. Media encoding work gets dumped to a dedicated spare computer.
thats why you buy the special case/psu together
I have a 212 EVO sitting here. I don't have the money for a $140 heat sink.
I wouldn't have any money to put into this besides what I could sell the i7 3770/7870 for.
If your thinking of getting either, get the 8320e, its higher binned and allows higher overclocks in general
I suppose it is worth trying. But remember the Dell, HP, and Lenovo and other server motherboards do not allow overclocking. Unless you are building from a barebones chassis there is no need to upgrade the fan (and the OEM fans are pretty good to begin with).
From my research the barebones chassis's are not the best for price/performance. I know there is a gut instinct to always build yourself over buying a prebuilt, but the market has shifted and it may no longer be the best method.
What's wrong with them? They suck??
I know, I'm this guy
I think Dell does a great job with their Precision line in general.
Better than a i5?
No, they're gems being sold for crazy low prices.
Double the core count and it has hyperthreading like i7s do. It will outperform even the newest i5s in multithreaded workloads and it will be somewhat competitive in most single threaded workloads.
better then the i5's before 2500k, and in some multi threading instances better then 2500k
I may have to look into them. I currently have a i5 it's ok does what I need it to do. But if I can get a 8 core for 50 bucks. I mean might as well.
>Stock heat sink is $140.
I think you can do better than that. Right here it is $73 shipped.
Perhaps the fans from some of Dell's older workstations will also work?
Or you could try adapting this
Fan is facing the wrong way, don't know about case air flow dynamics...
You'll need a new motherboard that supports one or two LGA 2011 cpus.
ebay.com
Here's a prebuilt that has everything you need excluding a good GPU and an SSD if you want one. You could upgrade to that $50 E5 2670, which I would advise doing because 2.2ghz is low even for an 8 core.
Well thank you for this info. Will look into getting one then. Doing a budget build to game on currently.
So if I buy this cpu for 50 bucks it won't work in my current motherboard?
God damnit. I missed out on the first round of these systems when they came up about 10 days ago and you could buy one with the two e5-2670s already installed and 16gb of RAM for less than $600.
Not next time. I am getting one of those suckers. I already have a HP z800 with 2x x5650 and 12gb of memory. I don't really have a reason to upgrade but I want that raw CPU power.
This is the cpu i currently have.
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20Ghz
Better, but understand my last computer was built in a cardboard box. I don't think my Craigslist find will sell for enough to do a 2P 16GB system if I have to add a $73 heat sink.
You need LGA 2011
upgrade from a FX8350 to a i5 2500k
then get Intel, are you serious?
this was a budget CPU 4 years ago. Intel has released new CPUs every year since then each with a 10% performance increase
an i5-6600k outperforms the 8350 by 20-30% in multithreaded applications and by 100% or more in single threaded
Will Zen have mini itx support? I've been really wanting to make an mini itx system but I don't want to use intel or outdated AMD chips.
Zen
Do it, I have dual X5690s with 48gb of RAM and I've been itching to get dual 2690s/2687w's (the w's are hard to find but are actually faster albeit more power hungry *on paper*).
