All but gnome/unity and cinnamon

windows actually. On linux kde i guess ,or maybe xfce/something that lets you edit panels. But if you want unity without a topbar (which i really dont understand why they didnt do it that way in the first place since the top bar is useless) than no.

Which is the best for a laptop? Does having KDE really kill battery life so much? Is Xfce really deprecated? Is MATE more bloated than KDE?

KDE is best for powerful desktops. I suggest you use Mate or Xfce. Xfce is still alive

mate is not bloated ,its just full-featured. On some distros it takes less ram and less cpu than lxde, while maintaining features. But for me it tends to be buggy.
Xfce is really old tho. I imagine that kde with full desktop effects and vsync is using more battery but you can configure it to be lighter, if you can live with the buggy kde meme.

>she's not fat, just full figured

Seriosly why does top bar exist on unity

NeXTSTEP

i suppose they head from some macfags that a global menu bar is improving productivity, while it just wastes space and fucks with menu icons. Someone shoud write a petition to canonical so they remove it.

>Xfce is still alive

try visual studio

What is buggy kde meme?

Poorfag remorse

Literally XFCE
Or MATE
Or KDE if you want bullshit
Or LXDE/LXQt/Trinity/Enlightenment/...

Mate is the best, period.

what you're looking for is windows 10

The top bar is also the title bar and menu bar so in unity you actually use less space that in windows, xfce or any other DE or WM when the window is maximized.
yes also i3 has a title bar and menu bar and use more vertical space
have you ever used unity?

I use unity currently. If there was no top bar firefox for example would have more vertical space. Is there any browser or any way to make firefox use title bar as adress bar/tab bar

I literally have this on Gnome.

I've been using KDE for a bit on my laptop. As far as bloat goes, it definitely has a wealth of options/settings (and a fuckload of visual effects), but going through and adjusting them can lead to a lean system. (Lean-ish, at least, compared to what it can be with everything turned on) I'm a bit under 1GB RAM usage right now for all the KDE stuff.

Can't say much for battery, though, just because of how I use my laptop. (And I don't see this DE breaking/fucking up like everyone claims it does.)

Yep, still alive.

This is what I do

XFCE and KDE can both do it super easy, and with a nice amount of customization.

Windows can do it too

KDE Plasma 5 is actually pretty easy on the battery. However, xfce might be better if your system has low resources. MATE is pointless compared to xfce.

>xfce is dead
>while it is actually still being updated regularly
Fuck off.

Mate is like xfce except with far fewer bugs and a lot more and much better applications.

>he thinks 15 months since a stable release is frequently
wow i bet debian jessie is bleeding edge to you.

>Mate is like xfce except with far fewer bugs
It's the other way around.
>and a lot more and much better applications.
moot point, any MATE centered application can be run using xfce and any xfce centered application can be run using MATE. The DE does not put limitations on what applications can be run.

ChromeOS

>hurr just install 20 distros to use their programs lmao
>durr I'm totally not a paid xfce shill pls beliv me xfce has no bugs kekekeke

how did you install debian on your pip boy

Maybe, but it's far from dead. Low amount of developers isn't the same as a dead project.
Also debian jessie is fucking cancer, get that shit out of my face.

Fuck, 20 DE*

>thinking a DE is the same as a distro

stay mad, noone uses your dying DE archboi.
But seriously , xfce is not bad but its window manager is , and additionally changing it to another one breaks the xfce settings panel. And its been this way for the last 2 years from what i remember.

>being inbred

also checked

Blow it out your ass.

>But seriously , xfce is not bad but its window manager
I don't know what's wrong with it, can't say I ever had issues with xfce. Then again, I've been using KDE since 2 years ago.
>archboi
opensuse is way more radical dude.
