How do you save Japan?

TOKYO — The Japanese semiconductor industry’s downfall – by way of a slow death over the past quarter century — is undeniable and well documented.

Theories about why Japan’s semi industry fell apart are many. But the single reality facing Japanese semiconductor firms is this: They no longer matter in the global market.

Tracing the top 10 semiconductor sales leaders all the way back to 1990, Brian Matas, vice president of market research at IC Insights, observed that compared to “1990 when Japanese semi suppliers wielded their greatest influence on the global stage and held six of the top 10 positions, last year only Toshiba remained in the top 10.”

Put more succinctly, IC Insights’ Matas said that the Japanese IC market declined 12% in 2015 to $21.2 billion, representing 7% of total worldwide IC sales of $287.1 billion. “As recently as 2010, the Japanese market accounted for 14% of global IC market,” he explained.

It's simple, we don't save Japan.

Their initial success was mainly a result of timing. Japan was the third to have a semiconductor industry after the US and Europe. They were successful due to their lower cost, not necessarily innovation though there was plenty. Since the 90s cost competition appeared in Taiwan. Then Korea and now China.

And Japan's companies have abandoned innovation in order to try and compete on price.

By eradicating anime.

>Japan's companies have abandoned innovation in order to try and compete on price

What a brilliant strategy! Instead of leaning on their strengths to serve markets where the Chinese are weak, they instead pitted their weaknesses against China's endless supply of slave labour. This unexpected tactical manoeuvre will take China by surprise and secure victory! Just like in Naruto.

Hardware is dead.
Software is king.

Japan economy is fucked, thank you abenomics

It's been fucked since the 90s though

For Japanese, the tech companies are holier than holy. When they die, they get bailed out. Turning into zombie tech companies. These companies have no place on the market but are kept alive by cheap money from the central bank. Instead of freeing the resources, the huge number of highly educated and experienced employees, these resources are kept on this useless zombie company that isn't competitive and manufactures nothing useful.

Good, it's China time.

China... The ShTpAtOwN of the world.

what about image sensor?

That sounds about right to me.

That's what I thought too, Sony seems to be selling quite a lot of them to basically every smartphone manufacturer. And of course there's Canon/Nikon, but I don't think they sell shit outside of their own products.

We don't. It's time for azns and whitebois to move aside. The future is black.

>China is black
I mean if you're talking about pollution then it makes sense.

>The future is black.
what a punchline

on it's way out as well.

>In Yunogami’s view, that’s exactly how Japan eventually lost the DRAM battle. While Japan insisted on making top-quality DRAMs with a 25-year guarantee (this was originally demanded by mainframe computers), Samsung and Micron ate Japan’s lunch by turning out DRAMs “good enough” for PCs.

>If Sony isn’t vigilant about cost, Omnivision, acquired by China’s Hua Capital Management earlier this year, and Galaxycore, an up-and-coming Chinese CMOS image sensor vendor, could erode Sony’s market share, Yunogami cautioned.

>Despite its large share, Sony hasn’t made any dent in the CMOS image sensor market for automotive applications. That’s another cause of concern, Yunogami added.

Canon might make all their own sensors but Nikon only does a handful of their own (seemly still fabbed by other companies like TSMC).

THIS IS THE FUTURE YOU CHOSE

#blacked

Japan was a mistake

IT'S OVER

SONY ON SUICIDE WATCH

The problem is it's the right strategy. People don't want inovation they want the latest status symbol gadget as long as it can browse facebook no matter how much it costs.
There aren't enough people left anymore that will purchase off of quality and inovation anymore.

ayOooOooOo is dat wer annamay be

Because labor is cheaper elsewhere. Japan is one of the most expensive countries to live and work in. Meanwhile in Taiwan etc.

I knew Canon was the better company. And I only preferred canon because that's what my family always had and because red is a superior color to yellow.

The screens you can flip out on nikons are cool tho (or has canon finally copied that?).

it's all a matter of DNA my friends. He who does not have white DNA and is successful, is only successful due to luck and therefore the success will be short-lived.

Japs are arrogrant little shits, When their economy was booming in the 80's all the every talked about was taking over the world and shit.

Now they are the "We wuz kangs" of the asians.

>How do you save Japan?

Send more americans

We tell the webs the truth too,
screw the school days fantasy

Factories are being developed in Africa, maybe you can get a job there. Soon we'll see another west side boys forming to fight the "evil oppressors" who don't give enough money.

>they don't tuck their shirts in

that's a poorfag school of course they don't

Japan is unsavable, just nuke it until the islands are gone.

Japan certainly doesn't lack brains, ingenuity or creativity, they do have a severe lack of flexibility and competitiveness. I don't quite see the point that article was making though, it's better to have a nimble company with 100 workers succeed and throw 50.000 people on the streets because they have a better product?

Post some richfags schools then. Like the ones I see in my animes.

>Paint me like one of your french girls

Maybe kicking 50 000 people wouldn't be such a bad idea, japan has unemployment rate of 3.2%. The people fired should be able to find another job in a market like that. Additionally, some of the poor performance of Japanese companies has to be because of lack of employees.

it was fucked before the 90s unless you think living in a large bubble is normal

that's a trait of their welfare style capitalism that is still lingering
It's not going to last

why is europe is recession then?

EU

try telling that to germans who make high-end mechanical components

there are markets for ICs that can function reliably in extreme climates, e.g., the arctic, underwater, outer space

The fact remains that Japan is the only countries that can produce its own processor from scratch (from developing the algorithm all the way to packaging and testing). In fact, 2 semiconductor giants, Fujitsu and Panasonic, will co-develop their own new-generation of chip with size >14nm, independent of Intel (because Jew).

For comparison, China only recently able to fabricate 14nm processor, while South Korea is using Exynos (which is based on ARM) for their own processor. Taiwan would stick to embedded shit because that's where their money (and expertise) are invested into

Is there any other asian countries with decent semiconductor industry?

Israel is pretty much toe to toe with japan (lacking only industrial output). That is, if you would consider Israel as "asian" countries.

Other than that, I would say that India and Malaysia has some solid semiconductor industry themselves. Though Malaysia focused more on packaging/assembly while India focused on nothing (jack of all trades, master of none)

Taiwan is still a major industry player

Anime is like their number 1 export now

That's bullshit and you know it.

And the Chinese have also been tackling that segment
Just face it they'll eventually own everything

fuck, you got me

>It's actually porn and used pantsu

Recession sounds worse than it actually is.

what are cars?

large, fast, moving round metal boxes that go vroom vroom and have this nasty habit of squishing people at random
