just woke up
looks better now it isnt on a floor
I guess I haven't posted in a while.
well the PSU fan certainly thanks me.
Temps dropped a good ~5c as well. I idle around 28c

My nigga.
Why'd you have to go with the ugliest 960 with the shitty reference cooler though ?
because it's a holdover card until I get a 1070, unless the RX 480 looks amazing. It was actually on sale compared to the 2GB version when I bought it, literally only reason I bought it was the sale.
The 5820k doesnt have an iGPU so I needed something to hold me over until the new cards came out. The 960 has the most advanced features(hardware VP9 and HEVC decoding, hardware HEVC encoding, HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0, etc) at the cheapest price.
Oh, I see. I'm looking forward to seeing it with a nicer GPU, then.
I'd suggest painting the yellow bits on your motherboard's heatsinks white, though.
>I'd suggest painting the yellow bits on your motherboard's heatsinks white, though.
i've debated it, but with the lights on it's hardly noticeable. and i'm unsure how a 2nd layer of paint would effect temps on the VRMs, I could sand the yellow layer off then paint on a white layer, but that seems like a lot of work for something that is purely aesthetics.
If it does happen it will be when I get the new GPU.
Recently finished build.
How'd I do?
I would have waited for a non-reference GTX 1080, but besides that you did good.
The only non-reference 1080s that would fit in this case were the ACX 3.0 and G1 Gaming as far as I could tell. Those two don't seem worth the wait.
anything that isn't that shitty reference cooler is worth the wait, especially in a tiny ass case like that. But hey too late now.
>especially in a tiny ass case like that
How is dumping the hot air inside this tiny ass case better?
I bought a Zotac AMP edition because I couldn't find the dimensions anywhere, and it raised all my temps by at least 10 degrees even without the side panel I couldn't put back on.
Now this, is a really very pretty machine.
>raised temps even without side panel.
as should be expected
poop fan
>raised all my temps by at least 10 degrees even without the side panel
Well, yes. Removing your side panel fucks your airflow.
8/10 that middle pillar looks annoying as fuck
8/10
10/10 so bretty
7/10 case seems so big
Blue/10
9/10 just a little gpu sag
Hueg cpu cooler/10
>8/10
>Blue/10
they're the same computer fampai
Was showing how it looked with lights on vs off.
The two fans on the bottom intake air into the case. They would blow the exhaust from an open air cooled GPU right into the the rest of my components.
its a blower you faggot.
lern2puter
Just noticed, you just need to color coordinate it for it to be a 9-10/10
yeah, discussed with another user earlier about sanding the yellow off the motherboard and repainting white whenever I get a 1070 or 480.
>Having a system with Sandy-, Ivy- or Haswell-E CPU
>Using a shitty operating system on which you cannot even arrange proper simulations to make use of those cpu's
>7/10 case seems so big
It's huge. I decided to go with a huge case for future water cooling plans.
I'm going to put a 360mm radiator in the top once my bank account allows me to spend a lot of money on a CPU cooler.
Also on the list of things to do is a new PSU and all white power cables, as well as all black SATA cables.
I think you should do it, maybe remove some of all those lights too. Probably not all of them, but goddamn that's a lot of lights.
Either way, painting those heatsinks white will look amazing, especially if you get a graphics card that matches the black colour scheme with white accents, as opposed to a big white box.
Good luck getting Haswell-e working on linux. So many headaches trying to get shit working.
Linux works best with Xeons or consumer level parts. Haswell-e support is shit.
...
Care to shed some light on these alleged problems? I've had zero problems on my two Gentoo boxes with 5820k's for the last two years.
>consumer level parts
And X58, X79 or X99 platforms arent 'consumer parts'? Wow, marketing really works.
SUPER QUIET/10
>Wow, marketing really works.
Or rather some Sup Forums nonsense, because Intel sure as hell doesnt market these sb's or cpu as 'non-consumer' parts.
It depends on your motherboard entirely, from my experiences some motherboards are just fine, others however cause major issues and there is little to no support out there trying to troubleshoot what the issues might be.
>And X58, X79 or X99 platforms arent 'consumer parts'? Wow, marketing really works.
They're prosumer parts. The normal person will never need x58/x79/x99. The professional or semi-professional will. which is why they are prosumer parts, for the higher end market.
I'm sorry you don't like marketing, but you can't deny there is a VERY clear cut divide between the normal consumer boards and features, and prosumer, and then professional (xeons).
>prosumer
this,if you have some 500 dollar meme gaymer board and you are running linux, something is wrong with you
meanwhile the cheap X99 Asrock and Gigabyte boards offer actual value
>prosumer
>professional
These are non-sense terms. There in consumer and then industrial space, nothing more.
I'm sad to see some people parroting bullshit when enough ignorant voices do so.
I've read of problems booting 'legacy' and uefi boot loaders, but have not encountered them myself (i have Asrock OC Formula board's on both systems). DDR4 does seem to have some major incombatibility problems and i coudnt get certain Kingston RAM's to recognize no matter what.
>there are 3 distinct segments to the market
>low end consumer
>??????
>high end professional
So what would you call it, you moronic frogposting faggot? It's not a normal consumer level part, it costs easily double what 3/4 of consumers need. Why should it continue to fall under the normal "consumer" classification because YOU'RE autistic and can't handle the fact it's on its own level?
It isn't the late 90s or early 2000s anymore where even a basic computer would cost $1000+, this is 2016 where I can go buy a decent computer for $400-500 that will be more than sufficient for the vast majority of people.
When you have $100 motherboards and $100 CPUs for the masses, you MUST admit it's retarded calling a $350+ CPU and a $250+ motherboard on the same level as the normal shit.
>expensive means its for profeshionals
ebin
When did I say that? You can stawman if you like, but you're still an idiot.
The 5820k is 6 core, 12 threads, 15MB L3 cache. It isn't on the same level as consumer parts. It's just a fact.
The FX-8350 is 8 core, 8 threads, motherload of l2 cache (thank God for huge cache missing!). It isn't on the same level as consumer parts. It's just a fact.
It's 4 modules with 2 cores per module and they share memory resources. Not exactly a true 8 core like the 6900k or 5960x.
Also
>AMD
>not consumer
Toppest of kek's unless you're running quad socket Opteron or something for SQL database or similar.
Not bad. Quite a few drives.
But "it's expensive" is the only point you've made on why something is for professionals
No, it isn't It's the feature set, more PCIe lanes, Quad channel memory, base core count is 6 instead of 2. Hyperthreading is default, all are unlocked multiplier, none of them have integrated GPUs meaning you MUST buy a dedicated GPU.
They are obviously not for the normal consumer, anyone making the argument that they are consumer level parts is living in the past.
>It's 4 modules with 2 cores per module and they share memory resources.
Yup, but thats not what it tells the kernel.
This is really like talking with leftists, who change the meaning of words with every sentence and the same argument doesnt work when it's expressed by non-commies.
Well, you can keep justifying your hugely overpriced purchases with whatever nonsense you come up with. I've just dealed with the fact i have bought into overpriced chipset and cpu. And the markets will keep working in two distinct spaces: consumer and industrial.
>No, it isn't It's the feature set, more PCIe lanes, Quad channel memory, base core count is 6 instead of 2. Hyperthreading is default, all are unlocked multiplier, none of them have integrated GPUs meaning you MUST buy a dedicated GPU.
FX-8350 has more PCIe lanes than 5820k, 8 cores instead of two or four, has unlocked multiplier and doesnt have igpu.
Sup bros. Go for 2.5" storage, drop those HDD's.
>FX-8350 has more PCIe
PCIe 2.0 lanes are NOT PCIe 3.0 lanes you literal retard.
Also it doesnt have an iGPU because the motherboard does.
and AMD cores are not even close to intel cores so stop trying, you're embarrassing yourself.
>
>(You)
>
>Sup bros. Go for 2.5" storage, drop those HDD's.
yeah... did you even look at how much storage space I have? I don't think I can afford $6,000+ to replace my HDDs with SSDs. Not to mention needing more SATA connections and places to put the SSDs.
The 750D doesn't have enough 2.5" slots for that, and I'm not replacing my HDDs just to have smaller HDDs.
That said though, I probably will fill up all of the 2.5" slots as well eventually, because I keep just adding more storage instead of freeing up space.
Needs more velcro ties
What temps are you getting on that NVMe drive?
I dig it
Get some dust filters
Love it!
Bottom cables are still pretty messy
Interesting CPU fan mount you have there
Beautiful
Still love it.
You're criminally underutilizing that case, user.
Day 2 of 4k and I can't go back.
>What temps are you getting on that NVMe drive?
No idea, it doesn't read temps.
I have an IR thermometer but i'd have to take off my side panel and shit for that. As long as you aren't stressing it all the time the temps should be fine. Unless you're doing huge database work or something like that, it's highly unlikely you'll be able to stress it.
>Still love it.
Thanks. And yours is good as always.
But I'm switching cases to the big brother of yours, Phanteks Evolv TG.
What are you gonna put in it? I hope you fill that thing up with a gigantic loop.
>8/10 that middle pillar looks annoying as fuck
it comes out somewhat easily, and is super good at stopping GPU sag, so its worth it
>Needs more velcro ties
it doesnt have any, only twisty ties
So clean/10
>Interesting CPU fan mount you have there
Lol, the original rubber mounts = rip a long time ago, cant find replacements in this shithole
Well. I planned on getting the i7-6950X for the M1. But my temperatures just weren't where I wanted them to be, so I wouldn't be able to overclock it like I want. (I want to get the 6950X to 4.0GHz. Or at the very least 3.5GHz rock-solid stable, which wouldn't be hard.). I'll likely try and do like 8x4GB sticks just to fill up the board. Or perhaps get like 4x8GB, and maybe somewhere down the line the same kit just to fill it for aesthetics. I've got the GTX 980, might buy a second. And two 360mm radiators.
>super good at stopping GPU sag
Just saw its holding your gpu up, noice
r8/ h8
I'm always up for suggestions to improve anything, looks, airflow whatever.
Change those rad intakes to exhaust, and intake from the rest. I get the positive pressure bit, but even with a good dust filter you're gonna suck dust into that rad and shit up your temps over time, not to mention bringing hot air into your case.
The airflow between two fans going through your radiator against two unimpeded intakes will still equal out to positive pressure. I can link you to a good slap-on filter from Amazon for that back fan.
So, in changing them to exhaust, where do you suggest I mount them? With this case in particular it will be louder if I mount them on the top, but if it is overall the best place for it, I will do it.
Also, a link to that filter would be great, thanks!
someone buy this 290 from me so i can get a 1080 already...
..also added two black hyperx ram modules to fill the rest of the slots since this pic was taken.
Gotta have that lens flare. Dual E5-2670s and 32GB DDR3 ECC, I'm about to go to 64 just to have all the slots full
9/10 i love black & white contrast
Videoencoding/10
can I ask you what case this is?
I need something with a similar 3.5" bay layout, thanks.
Corsair 750D
Muh nigger.
What board is that?
How's this? It is noticeably louder which is disappointing, but if it helps airflow, fuck it, I'll use my headphones.
AsRock Rack EP2C602-4L/D16 with 25ยข black construction paper
Colowise your i liked your previous fan setup, but i guess this ones better for airflow
Thanks kindly.
Well I have the day off and nothing else to do, if you have any other ideas I'm all for it. I'm bored as shit anyway.
>EP2C602
Asrock boards were impossible to find in my country so I had to go with Supermicro.
I thought about getting closed loop coolers but I'm afraid that its going to leak and kill the computer..
Good god, should I take the risk and update the Bios of my Z170A SLI Plus? The more recent Bios versions all have updates to the CPU microcode.. but I am scared of bricking it.
>leak and kill the computer
...you know they use a non-conductive liquid right?
Even if it spills it shouldn't cause damage immediately. Now if you leave it running and it has liquid all over and it gets something in it that makes it more conductive, THEN you could have a problem. But as long as you aren't stupid and pay attention it should be a non-issue.
Just get an ups and it will be a risk free procedure
>non-conductive liquid
Really.. Hmmmm..
They've got so many variations of the same board, I was actually thinking about full custom but I didn't want to because of the leak potential. The CLCs aren't bad at all, I just like them for how quiet they are
>Datsag
you saying I should spend 60 shekels to update the BIOS?
Meh.
No case masterrace
does it not have a dual BIOS?
Just switch to the 2nd BIOS if you brick the first.
Also, I was originally going to go with Supermicro but the board and my HX1050 didn't get along, did you have any issues?
Im just saying that the only risk is a power outage, hence the ups, unless you have a dual bios mobo like pointed out
that card been sagging since 2012, will probably start touching PSU in 2025.
don't think it has a dual bios.. us.msi.com
Nope guess not, my MSI X99 board does, but it was like $300 so guess they dont give a fuck at that lower price point.
Then the only thing that can fuck it up is a power outage while flashing it, dont be a pussy or borrow an ups
Yeah, guessed so. If I'd decide to give this shit a go.. do I pick the latest BIOS version? Their manual is fucking confusing. It hints to the number on the Motherboard itself and says to get BIOS matching the correct version. So do I get v 1.6 which is the latest or 1.2?
Mine says smth like: MS-7998 VER. 1.2
Also, , how the fuck do you not have a UPS for other shit at your house? At least your main TV should be on one if nothing else.
just look at the one that was released most recently. In your case 1.6
Yeah after searching my ass off I found out the X9DAi was used in one of their SuperWorkstations. So then I knew it was a workstation board and not some random server board.
I had no problems with my EVGA, thou the ATX and EPS connectors could have been longer. They barely reach and thus you can't do any cable management.
Hello Sup Forums, poor here.
I am building my first pc, pic related.
Where do I plug these little cables into?
Also if my front panel has normal USB ports, and my mobo is usb 3.0, I can still use the front ports, but they will just act as regular USB right?
Thanks, will give this a go. Never had a UPS, we rarely have outages here. I can think about 2 maybe were I had the TV etc. running but never was one of the devices damaged. Stupid luck?
...
There's lots of cables on the picture. YOu mean the front panel cables? P LED+ etc.? They're probably on bottom right of the motherboard somwhere. Look at the manual
is that a fractal design .. 5?
I mean, the odds are pretty low where it would damage something, but I have had a Plasma DLP bulb fucked by a power outage and since then i've been using UPSs. You just change the battery every few years.
Well worth if you can get one on sale. The one I currently use for my computer is a 1500VA unit that I got onsale for $130.
