So I bought an N600 Netgear router and I plug it in and I get a wifi app and I turn on my router and get onto a netgear connection and it says I have full strength and like 270 mbps but

Why? Do I need something besides a router? Do I need to get a cat5 cable and plug it into the wall and router to make it work? I thought it was wifi?
Was it supposed to come with a cat5 or do I have all the parts?
