What CPU cooler are you gonna use for that?

not really, 5820k at 4.5GHz keeps up with the 6700k in single core, but destroys it in multi-core performance.

>only an i7
What are you poor?

I hope you're not just gonna game on that because the 6600k beats it in most games when both are overclocked and is like $100 cheaper.

not sure yet

>game
nah, i'm about to build a hackintosh with it

kinda but not really. 4690k at 4.8ghz here. Posting on my phone atm tho

No. the i7 will however, improve your minimum frame rate.
No it is a $350 CPU, nothing special

What's the big deal about this shit?

It's just an overpriced 4790k.

pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Haswell-vs-Skylake-S-i7-4790K-vs-i7-6700K-641/

A cooler, faster, more capable 4790k for the same price.

>Can afford a 6700k
>Cant afford a cooler

Intel fags, everyone

>not getting a 5820k/5930k/5960x instead

kys

Post some cpumark benches for us to masturbate to

is this the memeiest meme cpu of all time?

>can afford FX-9590
>can't afford energy bills
AMD leeches, everyone

Z170 vs Z97: whats the difference?

What processor is this?

Different CPU socket and some other things

DDR4, more pcie lanes, essentially. A little faster also.

You can leave the 5930k off that list.

5820k for those getting 1-2 GPUs.

5960x for retards wanting 3-4GPUs and/or a huge RAID array.

5930k is simply priced too high and if you have money for a $500 CPU and triple or quad GPUs you have money for a 5960x for a few hundred more.

okay

Intel are jews. They change the socket so often only so you'd have to buy a new mobo for your slightly newer cpu

>No. the i7 will however, improve your minimum frame rate.
memes

>unclocked
Ultracucked, though.

a socket change a year keeps the goyim in fear

Has CPU performance gains just stopped? I'm using a computer I built in 2010, and I feel the only real bottleneck is my GPU.

I was going to buy a new PC, but based on the tests I've been looking through, there really isn't that much of a jump from my ancient i7 860, to an i7 6700k. Obviously there is some difference, but the 6700k only performs about 50% better, which is nothing considering these CPUs are 6 years apart. Back in the 90s and 2000s, the performance gap would have been huge over a 6 year span.

So, what's the deal here? Should I just get another GPU and stick with this CPU until Intel pulls its head out of its ass and start making some gains in CPU development? I really don't give a shit if they keep making smaller resistors if that only amounts to an 11% yearly gain in performance.

HYPERTHEADING!!!!1!!!

fuck you

>CPUmark
>5820k OC'd: 17,043
>MSRP $380 ( I paid $290 for mine though)
>Xeon E5-1680 v3: 16,961
>MSRP $1,723

step it up intel.

I thought 6700k is terrible for Hackintosh builds? No?

Why do you need it anyway?

I thought the 4790 had better single core performance

it does slightly. Even beats the 6700k on passmark (by a handful of points though, they basically tie)

Yeah, but what's the point?

Nope, got my own here :^)

>Z97
>not Z99

No, I have a 4770k on my cheap 700€ build

You mean X99?

Z is the gaymer chipset
X is the workstation chipset.

You stupid faggot, you are still posting? Dennard scaling and Moore's observation has been dead since 2011. 65% is massive, quit being a whiny bitch.

Too bad it gets absolutely shat on by the 6700K in real world applications.

youtube.com/watch?v=ocwwaVGUFtk

Enjoy jerking off to benchmarks, dork.

x99 is the "extreme" gamer chipset. Actual workstations mostly use either xeons or lower-end consumer chips.

Wow, are you still whining because you embarrassed yourself the other day?

yep. thx

X99 supports "actual" Xeons it just wont give you ECC support, that's the only difference.

In fact the X99 silicon is identical to C602 i'm pretty sure, C602 just has ECC enabled.

So if you dont need ECC, X99 is essentially the same thing.

Nope. Passmark is stock speeds. The 4790k has what a 100mhz bump in stock speeds, accounting for the difference.

>real world applications
>gaming
Kek, go back to Sup Forums faggot

>gaming is real world application

oh boy...

Why dont you compare it in encoding or rendering, you know, actual real world applications.

Embarrassed? You should be the one embarrassed for thinking your 6 year old cpu should perform the same as a modern cpu in gaymes.

No, because I don't need Core i7 performance.

a cute

The 4790k can turbo higher (4.4GHz vs 4.2GHz) though skylake was supposed to have more advanced turbo boost abilities, that doesn't really seem to be true in practice.

...

Not really. I'm pretty good to go.

I can run the new Hitman with no problems.

They should both be able to hit 4.6-7 no worries, and the increased ipc of skylake will let the 6700 pull ahead.

y-yeah, you tell him!

a DX12 title, yes

To be fair, GTA 5 is probably one of the best case scenarios, it is held back specifically by the draw calls which the 6700k deals with much better.

Agreed for the most part. It's just silly to think a 4790k is "better" than a 6700k, tho. It's denying reality.

BTFO

Good for you.

>too poor for a 2011 CPU
fuck outta here

Sure, but similarly so are people who think the 6700k will be longer lasting than the 5820k because it has 10% better single core performance.

Yes that is grasping at straws. Most people dont encode enough or have enough vm's for x99 though. 6700k is good enough in these tasks vs an i5 for them.

Agreed, and most who get the 6700k would have been fine with the 6600k anyway.

A good CPU which I could pick up from the store right now for about 300e. What's here to be jealous of? It's not a binned 5 GHz model is it?

6700 is actually the forgotten gem here. For normies that dont game much, and run photoshop or encode occasionally, the hyper threading is really useful, for $300

I guess, I have a microcenter nearby though so i personally can't see paying that much for that CPU since I paid $10 less for a 5820k.

Mc is awesome, I wish the closest one wasn't 5 hours away. $320 for a 5820k? Who could say no?

>$320 for a 5820k? Who could say no?
And that's the daily price, lowest it's been is $280 I believe.

As if you can tell the damn difference.

Yes. Not of the processor, but of the cash. $300 would put me most of the way into a dual E5 2670 build.
My two quads are just not enough.

>fell for the cooler meme

not really
I got my 4790k for $150 a year ago and considering how little of a jump skymeme is over haswell there's no reason to even care about upgrading.
I will care when intel adds more pcie lanes to their consumer parts. 20 pcie lanes is not enough for most systems now that m.2 nvme drives are stealing pcie lanes.

>bought i7
>now only limited by shitty internet if I go somewhere other than my home
>mfw no google fiber
>tfw 50m/10m max available in area
I didn't need it.

wat. no, not jelly.

I got that CPU in December 2015, priced 300€ when there was the skyrocketing inflation because there was a short supply of them.

Pic related, do you refreshed the paste for the summer, people?

No I used mx-7 and don't have to worry with that stupid shit.

meh, I got the same CPU for $120 + shipping

>tfw still using an fx6300
It works

...

>buying anything past an 8350
>crying about the 2 cents added to your mom's bill

Sup Forums, everybody

Nope, got a 6850K on the way

Z170 allows for overclocking

no, i have a new t5810

>Xeon

so you mean an i7 with a $300 motherboard and ECC support?

If you don't play games all day or cry about single core performance you can get pretty close to i7 performance without the 300% price markup.

I have two rigs, one with an 8350 and one with a 6600K, they're both good.

hyper threading has been a fucking meme since they introduced it on P4's

if you're paying for your workstation and not your employer buying Intel is basically saying just cuck my shit up.

If you think paying another hundred bucks is worth .2 seconds of encoding time saved it better be because your boss paid for it.

you bought an i7 so you could download things fast?

you wanted to go fast?

so you got some shitty engineering sample from a fraudulent third party seller...

great jorb!

I can tell you're autistic just by the shoes you're wearing.

That's the retail edge program. If you or a friend/family member who works at a retail store that participates in the program you get a chance to buy CPUs SUPER cheap like once or twice a year.
If your friend/family member doesnt want you buy a CPU that year, sometimes they will give you the chance to buy it for a cheap price too.

damn you're retarded.

This thread is full of but hurts.

>If I overclock my i5/old cpu/insert whatever here I can get the same performance
>After buying expensive CPU cooler that would of just afforded me the i7 to begin with
>After spending hours and hours of your own time tweaking everything perfectly

Why would I be jealous of a bargain bin glorified i5? I have an i7-5820k.

>Not Xeon e5
don't even reply filthy poorfag

No user, you still a poorfag. We rich folks here at Sup Forums have Intel xeon (R) and quad sli gtx 980ti by nvidia (R) the way its meant to be played (TM) and Kingston (R) hyper x (TM) 256gb ram so yeah git gud

It's much, much more than .2 seconds user.

Honestly, just because you have the money to spend doesn't make it a wise choice.

The majority of people on here will be fine with an i5

Enjoy your transistor decay (same goes for everything 22nm and smaller).

Am I th eonly person who would rather have an i5 or i3 over i7?

I guess i'm not hardcore enough or game much. I don't need that poweroverkill.

Not at all brah.
