OK, I'll make this quick. I'm an idiot and dropped my OnePlus One. Screen is broken and is completely black. My computer recognizes it, but you have to change it from charging to data transfer in the menu in order to transfer data via USB. USB debugging is also not enabled, which has prevented any of the recovery tools I've tried from working.

Is there any way that I can recover the photos and data from the device? Tried looking, but can't seem to find a solution that works.

Can it output HDMI through USB? I'd look at that. If it can, attach a mouse (I suppose it supports OTG) and do you stuff.

> reasons why consumers want sdcard slots

Idea I would have is plug a USB keyboard and mouse and look up the right hotkeys to get to settings and enable dev mode - you might just need to unlock the phone to do a USB disk mount.

I do this all the time when my laptop undock script fails and my screen is black.

Put an apple sticker on the back.

>Can it output HDMI through USB

No, it can't. That was my first thought, but it doesn't work with MHL HDMI adapters

Yeah, I wish.

I had this exact same issue. Currently using a OnePlus 2.

Snag an OTG cable and plug in a mouse. Assuming the LCD is fine, you should be golden.

LCD isn't fine though. Like it says, the screen is broken and doesn't display anything.

If it is still connected tot he network, install a screen streaming app on you phone and cast it to you pc. Attach a bluetooth mouse and tranfer data onto micro-usb USB

Try using a mouse and keyboard to unlock the phone then access the storage over USB

Yo OP, same thing happened to me, just get an otg adapter, plug a mouse in, works like a charm.

Both of these solutions require a working LCD...

I have an OTG adapter. Again, the screen doesn't work at all, so how would that help me if I can't see where the pointer is?

I know there's some PC mirroring apps, Chromecast, and maybe HDMI is an option. Gnite.

If you have TWRP installed boot into recovery and MTP is enabled by default.
If not, unlock the bootloader and install the recovery.

This is the way to go.

To install an app the only requierement is to have a internet connection on you phone. You can install it from a PC

But wouldn't I need to be able to see in order to launch the app on my phone/change settings?

Just buy a new screen and install it.

...

Might have to, but I'm a bit hesitant to buy a new screen for a phone that is damaged (there's damage other than the screen). I'd have to install the screen and then just toss it once I got the data off, if it worked at all).

Is there any way to bypass the whole connection thing and set it so that I can transfer files via usb without seeing or using the screen on the phone?

Go into fastboot and use adb pull.
I've never tried it because I never needed to but fastboot has saved me from catastrophic failure a few times so I have faith.

>google adb commands if you're not familiar
as soon as drivers finish installing etc and you've got adb running, type in 'devices' to see if its all set up right.

Give it back jamal

Did you try shutting the phone first BEFORE you plug it in your computer?

EDIT
Empty battery first then it would shut down

Yes, I opened it up and disconnected the battery. Let it sit overnight in a bag of rice.

These
Are your solutions

>unlock the bootloader and install the recovery

Won't that wipe the data that I'm trying to save?

Nope, replacing the recovery should not wipe the data, if you replaced the rom then it would wipe

Either way, I don't really see any other option at the moment.

Bag of rice for what?

Has liquid been mentioned?
Has the fact that rice as a desiccant is a fail boat been memorized?

Can you access adb?

It was dropped in water

How does one do so?

>Not this shit again

ADB PULL. Fastboot is harmless, adb is harmless (unless you literally command it to flash shit over your current data).
No unlocking required.
No fucking about required.
Also flashing a recovery does not wipe your data, flashing a ROM will tho.

What's that font m80?

Not OP and this is only tangentially related, but does anyone know where I can buy a OnePlus One replacement battery that wont cause a housefire/explode on me?

nowhere.
should have got an LG, m8.
ha,
ha ha!
