your life = one big meme

literally just bought an ultrawide, gonna go pick it up in a bit

>literally just bought an ultrawide, gonna go pick it up in a bit

really?
Why did you do that? you're crazy?

Literal meme. It won't work with many games and it will get you banned from many others for using a not allowed FoV.

>It won't work with many games

Yes it will, most games support 21:9 out of the box that I've tried, if it doesnt it's an easy fix with flawless widescreen.

I can never go back to 16:9 after this.

I'm pretty sure it is very useful for people using their computer to do actual work.

All sorts of engineering/design software and their junk left and right displaced further apart actually having space to see.

It's like Sup Forums cares about gayming only

They are nice because because of the position of our eyes, which can see farther from side of side than up and down.

Though, not too much supports them yet.

Gaming is amazing with ultrawide, the only problem you will be having is watching movies and such, because most of the time you'll have black bars unless you download like the blueray version, but that's ok - you'll get used to it and it's not really that big of a deal.

>unless you download like the blueray version

Everyone has been downloading the BD version for everything since like 5 years ago. I bet you're one of those plebs that torrent like 10GB movies and think the quality is great.

I usually just watch it on putlocker, because downloading all the movies and series I watch would take years.

It's weird once you go 21:9 you wonder why the fuck wasn't this standard from the start.

>10GB movies
I'm not into spending my monthly data cap on a single movie.

Will I miss my 16:10 monitor if I replace it with one of these like the LG one?

8 GB Movie from rar.bg
>28 minutes to download
>No monthly cap

Why would anyone ever download anything less...

You americans with your slow internet and caps...

What resolution is it.

If it's 1920×1200 and you go for a 3440×1440 you'll be fine.

If you go 2560×1080 you'll be sorry.

>2016
>Not grabbing that 100GB+ 4K movie from HDBits.

It's a 1920x1200 one. Considering the LG 34UC98

>if it doesnt it's an easy fix with flawless widescreen.
there are a few that have a problem or 2

but yea generally most modern games can output gameplay at 21:9, the cutscenes are still usually 16:9

if you play competitively, you should be going for a 144hz monitor anyways so it's a moot point

i don't own one or plan to own one for the time being, i ain't got the cash for it at the moment and getting a smaller 29/25 21:9 just isn't worth it unless you really like watching 21:9 movies are your computer via ripped blu rays

some games don't play nice, it's pretty rare, and most of the older games get broke by widescreen monitors already, going forward you'll likely get more and more support for the aspect ratio in games

if you multitask at all, they seem to be the bees knees, only getting beat by 4k screens, but with 4k screens you need a ton more video card horsepower to drive that at a decent clip compared to 3440x1440, you can get away with a single high end video card and get decent FPS

>LG 34UC98
3440x1440

You'll be more then fine.

What model is that?

Thats a really cheap one.

LG 29UM65

Can anyone point me towards a cheap (150-210 quid) 120hz monitor in the UK?

Or do they just make 144hz strictly now?

16:10 > 16:9 > 4:3 >>>>>>>>>> "ultra wide"

I literally don't understand the appeal.

Well I love strategy games.

It's a whole new world. Shit like Anno 2205 or EU4 or Stellaris look fucking fantastic.

FPS games feel more natural because of the bigger view.

It takes a fraction of power to run it vs 4k and it still looks fucking amazing.

You also get the bonus of not having bars while watching movies.

I mean I guess you're all coming from some shitty 1920×1200 monitors are all like. OH NO MY SPACE.

But if you get a 34" 3440×1440 you got more vertical space.

Compared to 4K 21:9 to me makes a whole lot more sense. Since our eyes are built that way.

If only they made a 500$ 21:9 1440p 144Hz IPS monitor.

What about 29" or 34" @ 2560 x 1080? Do people typically just buy 3440x1440? Seems to be way more expensive.

Is there a good ultrawide for under 200 dollarydoos?

shit man I get more data than that on my mobile.

Well you're a 16:10 fag so why it that a problem?

16:10 was always more expensive and is to this day.

16:9 on 29" like myself is as cheap as it gets to having a decent monitor

Mine has Freesync 75Hz and 2560×1080.

Buying a 34" 2560×1080 is being literally retarded if you ask me. Thats like buying 1920×1080 52" TVs. You're never gonna sit 6 meters away from it and play something. And we're talking about PC monitors here so you'll be sitting 0,5 from it at most.

>tree of savior
poor sap. imc mismanaged it so hard that I never bothered with the actual release, after 600 hours in icbt2.

Doesn't help that it's a game designed around having 500.

Can you link the one you have?

I only suggested 34' 2560x1080 cause this one is really cheap and looks nice;

amazon.com/LG-UltraWide-Gaming-Monitor-34UM57-P/dp/B011ESXHBA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1467751535&sr=8-6&keywords=LG 34UC98

Same here...

I had 170 hours of iCBT 1 and then I was like I'm not gonna burn myself out. Then it came out and I was like. WHAT THE FUCK.

This is the one. I'm not American, Croatian.

amazon.com/LG-Electronics-29UM67-29-Inch-LED-lit/dp/B00VBNQJKU

But this price seems way too over inflated I got mine for 250€ a year ago. Here have one for 200$

bestbuy.com/site/lg-29-ips-lcd-hd-219-ultrawide-monitor/4922000.p?id=bb4922000&skuId=4922000

That basically mine but one generation forward.

I dunno man. 4k is amazing. Got a Samsung 4k freesync for 319GBP. I think it's worth it.

I cant wait for ultrawide monitors to reach a reasonable price point

Ultrawide = Discount 2160p

It's got it's advantages. Most 2160p displays are in the 27-28 inch range which means UI scaling is a must. Even with a 32 inch monitor its difficult to use at 1:1 scaling. Ultrawides have a much lower DPI.

Yes
Get a better resolution 16:10 display instead

>projects a logo onto your desk

wtf, that's seriously stupid

For anyone who has one, when you play a game that doesn't support it, do you just run in 2560x1440 and then get black bars on the sides? and does this cause secondary monitors to kinds fuck up and shift things around?

I'm debating between a 29" Ultrawide or 27" 16:10 monitor at the moment.

>For anyone who has one, when you play a game that doesn't support it, do you just run in 2560x1440 and then get black bars on the sides?

Yes.

> and does this cause secondary monitors to kinds fuck up and shift things around?

No.

Debate away.

goddamn it looks so fucking good

>falling for the ultrawide meme
lmao

16:10 >>>>>>>>>>shit>>>>>>>> ultrawide

21:9 is the tits m8. Support is generally fine these days. Older games can also work fine if you arent afraid of some cfg editing

everything is a meme is you spread you buttcheeks wide enough

>2560x1080
>1080
Not even HD Ready

>it will get you banned from many others for using a not allowed FoV
cite a single example of this happening. I'll wait.

ultrawide = ultrawide
you = retard

I was dead-set on getting an ultrawide monitor, then I realized the horror that would strike me when an IMAX scene comes in while watching a film, or watching any 16:9 / 17:9 television content.

Suffice to say I quickly reconsidered and will get a regular UHD or 4K DCI display instead.

>data cap

yes

uh, USA doesn't have data caps
kek, who are you eurofags trying to fool?

for games, kinda
for movies and general multi tasking screen realistate, no

>>Not grabbing that 100GB+ 4K movie from HDBits.

AACSv2 isn't cracked yet, how can BDXL remuxes exist?

>watching tv and movies on your computer

its a good thing you didnt buy one, it gives you more money saved up to move out of your parents house

I don't like sitting close to televisions and sitting at a desk in my comfy af chair with a 25"+ display and my headphones is far more enjoyable for me.

Honestly I might even sell my television altogether. I definitely won't need it once I have a 30" UHD display.

>55434650
Uh oh guys, we got a real badass over here.

2 monitors > 1 ultrawide

any day of the week

bait

UW is basically trading usable workstation desktop vertical space for maybe a little extra Hz if you're lucky.

Getting a 4k or a 2560x1440/1600 is usually smarter than going for 3440x1400 or 2560x1080, since you can actually see more in a window without having to scroll constantly.

Just use letterboxed resolutions for gaming if you can't drive something at your display's native capacity.

thanks, I'm kinda on the fence about getting one or a regular 1440p for gaming.

Using one atm can't imagine going back to 16:9

tl&dr

also, competitive games are a meme

Samsung 3440 x 1440 ultrawides with 144 hz panels coming soon, comrades, start saving up.

I'm getting a secondary 2560 x 1440 soon to use vertically next to my U3415W, shit's gonna be glorious.

Nigger, actual UHD@120/144 Hz panels are coming in Q4 thanks to DP 1.3/1.4 finally existing.

Ultrashort will continue to be shit.

you obviously can't afford neither, so why are you so mad?

can't afford what, friendo?

Damn I had that wallpaper in 1920x1080.
Could you post the 1440pUW version pretty please?

can someone please ID that computer?

is that a premade or a custom w/ case?

just yank them through waifu2x bro

it would seem taunting you had some effect. either way don't be mad because people like what you don't like

Looks like that external GPU dock Asus was showing off for their laptops last month.

Nice Havasupai senpai

>144Hz IPS
End this meme. They fucking suck. May as well not even be IPS, I've seen better looking VAs.

yea but there are literally no good 4K VA monitors. The TV screens from Samsung are all fairly shitty and smallest is either 40" or 43"

+Gorgeous, you can never have too much of a picture on your screen

-Most games do not support that aspect ratio, so in many games you're going to have black bars on the sides as you're locked in 16:9/4:3

Hilariously enough as a 3 monitor fag on 5760x1080 I do admit there are some shitty ports that make it look like a waste.

favorite was cod4 promod and the max is 90 FOV. Single player allows for 125 and I assume the 90 limit is to prevent it from being too much of an advantage. Needless to say 90 just is stretched to shit.

Also, in some cases even if it did support any fov and looked great, it forces the mini-map to be shoved in the left or right corner of the left or right monitor, and for some games it doesn't matter too much of the benefit that you can see wider when you are losing your mini-map. Best example is hacked AoE2 which allows for three monitors, cool as fuck except the mini-map is too far away and you are losing valuable information. In promod it was much more important to see the mini-map to know where someone was versus having a high fov which wasn't allowed anyway.

Best game was Wolf ET, you could code the HUD to be in the center, and 180 looked gorgeous and nothing was stretched at the edges like every other game. Outside of this, emulators are also great like PJ64 and dolphin since their huds are always in the center as well and racing games are fun with it.

>can't afford neither
This phrase means that he can afford to have both, or rather, not having both would be something he cannot afford.

Anybody use a vertical ultra wide? Do you feel like a god?

when games support it, it looks amazing. when they don't, it sucks. even games like dishonored from 2012 support it. not sure why some devs are so shit they don't have support for it.

it's great for writing reports and researching as well.

when i think about 4k, it seems cool, but to have a monitor that fills up this much horizontal field of view, you'd have to have something that would probably induce strain with respect to the vertical. can't say for sure, just an assumption.

>that fucking light on the bottom

topkek ultra gaymour league play tier meme monitor

Why would you get 34UC98 when 34UC88-B exists and costs less?

Do you want the thunderbolt that bad?

Just curious because I am considering these right now also.

everything Sup Forumsays can't afford = meme

there's that one i've seen on a battle station thread, it looks horrible

...

that church looks exactly like the one in half life lost coast lol

Holy shit, then it should totally be a half life ad

There are a ton of games that don't support it but the games that do are made way better with it.
Especially games with really intrusive HUDs. I couldn't even think of playing FFXIV on a 16:9 anymore.

What's the point of those meme machine ultra wide monitors that cost 1K like the one in the OP?

>Most 2160p displays are in the 27-28 inch range
Then get a bigger one. A 40 inch 4k display will have the same DPI.

16:9 for comparison.

There's that Phillips one that's supposedly good (The 40" one is VA and the other is IPS).

I have 3 monitors that have shit out on my a 27 inch a 23 inch and a 16 inch and i must say this widescreen shit is pretty nice.

Personally I just tune my display to match retina quality. (This is a combination of resolution, screen size and viewing distance)

For a 16:9 2160p display, you want to be sitting at distance that makes the display cover approximately 60° of your horizontal FoV. To achieve this effect, you could sit at a distance of 1.6 screen heights.

This gives you about 1 pixel per arcminute. Use isthisretina.com/ to calculate the optimal viewing distance / display diagonal for your desired configuration.

Can I set them up vertically for muh lines of code?

jes

I purchased a Dell UltraSharp U3415W 34-Inch

How fucked am I?

Your eyes see roughly in 4:3

hope you like having a wall for a monitor.

Our eyes are mostly trained for scanning information horizontally, for example reading text.
