Literally this. 4.4.4 was the perfect version of Android. Good design, awesome performance, easily to modify, smooth, awesome custom ROMs made out of it. After 5 not only the most of the dev scene died in a way or another, but we have bugs after bugs in every version, the material design is awful compared to Holo, shit battery life optimizations and full of patched holes overall. I miss the days before Lollipop.

after messing with my new android phone for a while all i can say is the apps at google play store has a lot of spammy shit that is not only junk but outright annoying, until google cleans up that crap and gets rid of the spammers and their adware i wont put much confidence in google anymore, i even remove as much of google's apps from my phone as possible without killing the android operating system itself or harming the phone's functionality as a phone,

hey google, you got to raise the bar on the quality control or your going to be riding in the back seat in your own operating system, the same with samsung and any other OEM i run across that uses their product as a marketing tool to sell garbage

The "underlying OS" does not have utilities. Android uses the Linux kernel but does not have any GNU or other standard binaries/libraries shipped with other Linux distros.

You have to handle the event yourself, programmatically backing up the state of the current UI and restoring it after the orientation change.

Its also the reason why screen rotation was janky as fuck for years.

The only real wrong which is what everything stems from is that Google allowed manufacturer/carrier variants that it couldn't push major updates through.

If they went back in time and made it so Android could get core updates from Google and the only things manufacturers/carriers could do were more modular then Android would be literally perfect.

The horrendous update mechanism with no facility for urgent security patches, read-only /system, out-of-tree kernels and blob drivers for SoCs, delays (often infinite) from OEMs and carriers in rolling out even the smallest and most critical updates, and fucking Java.

I love that there's a phone OS which is at least in part open-source, but Jesus, it's a clusterfuck.

When the G5 came out, everyone at XDA was porting over G5 libraries to balance out Cyanogen 13 on the G4.

Companies that give a fuck will sometimes roll back code to older phones. Google's done it for ages for the Nexus 4, and sometimes like the case with LG here, it's easy to take advantage of for home devs.

See It's not just about the software but hardware too. While iPhones are stuck in 2012 with 1080p screens, android phones are already starting to get 4K displays. While iPhones only come in up to 128GB storage options, Android phones can achieve almost 400GB of storage with 128GB of internal storage + 256GB microsd card. While iPhones only have 2GB of RAM, Android phones now come with 6GB of RAM.

And somehow Android manages to cost less. iPhones are a joke.

Listen I used to own an iPhone 6S and all that smooth user experience magic wears off as time goes on. At first everything will be fast and whatnot but as time goes on that 2GB of RAM will be used up and your iPhone will start to lag HARD. With android you have 2-3X the breathing room before that happens.

Leaving apple behind was one the best decisions in my life. Now I have an HTC 10 with a 90MB/s 128GB microsd card.

The reason the iPhone has won those benchmarks is because of their A9 SoC and all the bloatware pre-installed on those android phones (which can be disabled or completely removed in less than 5 minutes).

Of course you can keep battery for 3 days when you aren't using any apps.
