People actually like ribbon?

I don't like ribbon :S

>good ideas
>Microsoft
pick one

hello newfriend

The tiles are so bad that I started using powershell as much as possible to automate my exchange server tasks.

>Windows 10
>Good idea
lol

I'm honestly not sure if you are just stupid, or just a really bad troll.

screens got bigger
programs got more functions
With plenty of screen space, why hide them all behind a slim menu bar if you can unroll them for easy acces?

This is what naturally happens once you stop making sure your program will run well on a 640x480 potato

>These are all ideas that WILL be stolen by future reconfigurations of ubuntu
Fixed :)

>Trinity
>4 things
Wow someone used all hist IQ for this

>b-but newfriend
Dead memes won't save your from your mental retardation

>using a terminal over image-based retrieval system

I guess you like wasting time, but that's fine with me

>This is what naturally happens once you stop making sure your program will run well on a 640x480 potato
Then we should go back

>stolen

wishful thinking... no they are too autistic to even realize how godlike the UI design in win10 is and rather stick with their disgusting KDE crap.

No, it's shit. It's fucking annoying to have the 5 most-used functions on separate ribbons filled with other random, useless functions.

I actually love ribbon.
Options are clearly labeled and plenty of them, most things take 2 click and very little mouse work.
Also quite customizable.

>trinity
>4 things
>Luna was a good
Huh.

>I don't like ribbon :S
>using squiggly line faces on a Friday

do u even have the permit to dothat?

Luna was the reason I had all theming disabled up until 2007 when I switched to Vista (Aero looked great if you removed some of the crappy fluff animations).

>Customisation
>Clear options
>Single click functions
>Previews
>Can easily get to more advanced functions

>filled with other random, useless functions.
Yes, holy fuck THIS!

true, but if you become proficient in keyboard shortcuts, things go much more quickly, if only because you're no longer taking one hand off the keyboard

Yep, and worst thing about ribbon is its come with decreased visibility into keyboard shortcuts, and fewer defined keyboard shortcuts.

>I guess you like wasting time

Open EMS
New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox Felix -FilePath \\FQDN\dir\\name.pst

vs

Open EAC(+browser), + 5s wait
Navigate the slow, web UI
Click the small icons
Wait for everything to load
More waiting...

what if I don't?

>fewer defined keyboard shortcuts
Have you tried pressing alt?
Literally turns the entire ribbon into a gigantic keyboard.

yeah even with folders it's nice and when you're done using it, doubleclicking will hide it.

i love the new thing in word where you can hide the ribbon and just focus on writing, no distractions, love it.

MODS!!

So put squares around this and we can call it stolen?

...

Daily reminder that the metro style was designed in powerpoint

looks like complete garbage

Reminder that MS .net had a "flat" theme since at least 2005 but nobody ever used it

Simpler times

To be honest I love the ribbon but only in Office. I fucking hate it in explorer.

you can hide it in explore by double clicking on one of the buttons though
i like it for hiding and unhiding items, it's alot faster than how it used to be and alot easier to find

And WPF looks better than WinForms, except that XAML is upsetting because it obscures all the documentation and makes the class hierarchy even more nightmarish.

msfn.org/board/topic/170375-oldnewexplorer-118/

I wish Microsoft would have kept 8 Aesthetics but with 10's start menu and get rid of all that tile bullshit

ribbon is pretty nice in certain programs (ones with a fuckload of functions, with too many fairly common ones to fit in a reasonable amount of space as reasonably sized buttons)
tiles are just buttons for people with sausages for fingers
aero and luna are just themes, microsoft didn't invent themes. aero has a couple things like "aero peek", but fuck aero peek, thankfully it can be turned off, really more about saying "LOOK AT THIS THING WE CAN DO NOW THAT WE DO COMPOSITING" than actually being useful

i don't even use the startmenu anymore, tiles are a joke for desktop PCs... i use scripts these days, no need to click on 10different icons to get where i need

powershell is virtually unusable

honestly it could be renamed ipconfig and I would never know the difference

Not everything is a meme my man, just idiotic.

(oh, and microsoft certainly didn't do composited windows first, really, they were about the last due to the trainwreck that was longhorn)

Clearly a troll thread... BUT

Ribbon is terrible.

Icons are vomited all over the screen and constantly change with context. I work much faster when my UI isn't going on a fucking parade.

Damn right the ribbon is terrible. Good thing it can be removed.

The only good thing in that list is tiles, and Mac & Lin already had their version of something similar for ages.

>tiles
hot touchscreen UI garbage, doesn't belong on desktops
on things like pic related however, it's a godsend

Takes about 15 on a shitty laptop screen, even less on a proper computer.
Say whatever you want about microshit but the ribbon is the only GUI update that didn't suck they introduced in the last 8 years

You and your picture are wrong.
I'm talking about the exchange management console, not powershell as a command prompt.

>tiles
>good idea
No way, no how. Fuck off, mobile cancer.

>I work much faster when my UI isn't going on a fucking parade.

What you mean is "My mind is too slow for the equivalent of hyperthread mode of UI"

spoken like a true linux user.

That not only looks ugly, it works worse compared to shit like 2007 Word.

>touchscreen blahblah
It's literally just a way to arrange shortcuts in a separate menu

tbqh i find the ribbon to be a cluster fuck of icons, half of which i have no idea how to use.

Tiles have nothing to do with mobile.

They literally speak to the primitive parts of our brains. This is coming from a guy who loves Win7 and hated Win10 until last month.

If you're a true win7 acolyte, you will eventually learn this eventually.

>They literally speak to the primitive parts of our brains
Is that you, Tile Fucker?

My god. Tile fucker probably can't use computer anymore without getting aroused.

>trinity
>four things listed
are you rusing me?

>white on white, consistent with the page
>blue glass on white which clashes hard

yeah this man

I've seen too many computers sold with Win 10 that cannot handle... Win 10.
Windows PC's are the new iPhones, they'll just stop being usable after a time

No, but whoever this tile fucker guy "is", he must be brilliant

he literally connects his sexual arousal to his computer executive function. His UI navigation must be super saiyan level.

>holy trinity
>4 absolutely retarded and horrible things
This is bait if I ever saw it

What the fuck is wrong with you and your picture?

>Jews
>Capable of love
Yeah, OK.

Ribbon is the only good idea out of the 4 but Microsoft didn't invent it so it doesn't matter
pic related, from 2003

The fuck are you talking about? The ribbon hides more features than the normal toolbars ever did.

Loving goyim is bestiality. That's a sin.

>didn't invent ribbon
>provides false evidence

>not using the last good version

too progressive for you?

even SJWs can't handle pedoism

Implying that I would have a relationshiop with a subhuman shikse is offensive. You are literally Hitler.

they defend female pedos regularly.

Nope, tiles are dynamix

>shit
>not really any different from dropdowns, didn't even know it was a new thing until just now
>looks p cool, about it
>comfy AF but otherwise not different from your typical GUI

I liked it since it came out and I remember all the backlash from people saying it's not the same when most of those people are old and relatively tech illiterate.

You also forgot to include Windows Snap and jump lists. Honestly Microsoft doesn't get enough credit.

the fuck is that
23' tablet?

who the fuck uses the idiot tiles?

>order thinkpad X41 on ebay
>it arrives
>some bastard installed Windows 10 on it
>the laptop has 1.5gb of ram and a 1.6ghz pentium m
>idles at 70% cpu usage and uses 1.1gb of ram just to run windows 10

>install manjaro with xfce
>idles at 200mb of ram and 1% cpu usage

yeah dell went really fucking crazy for a couple of years and started shitting out everything they could think of, including giant tablets

wtf i hate powerpoint now

>Windows Snap
Not a Microsoft idea.

Neat. Is it stable?

What is it?
It's smalltime.

>he doesn't use his computer
Might as well use Linux.

[citation needed]

Ribbon is shit for serious use, tile interfaces are as old as touch interfaces themselves, and Aero ain't got shit on Gnome/KDE compositor effects.

>thinks he's actually using his computer
wanna do calculation? hit windows button and type "calc" and hit enter. it goes on like this with every metro app. if you want to use your main apps then just pin them to taskbar.

>he needs to use his keyboard to launch a program

>he does everything by mouse
Why are you on Sup Forums?

>uses mouse
>has low typing skills

Subte

This is why Linux will never win the UI is shit and the "free software" is garbage

Don't spin it as a metro feature just because you learned it as a workaround. You could do that since Vista.

He didn't say that. Being able to use the mouse in addition to the keyboard makes for a more comfortable experience depending on the situation. You seem to reason like those 40% mechanical keyboard fags, are you one of them?

Because I'm smart enough to figure out how to do 90% of what I need on a computer with just one hand.
You need 3.
Why are you on Sup Forums again?

never owned or wanted one. too loud, expensive and dysfunctional if you're seriously busy with typing with your 10 fingers.

won't you type numbers to that calculator after using your mouse? don't you find it silly to change your instruments during your time in front of computer all the time?
