No

Thats what i thought , don't get me wrong the mac pro looks good without a case but you can barely change any parts.

Trash can pc thread

>no line in
>no microphone in
>no SPDIF
>only 4 USB
>No PS/2
>no Serial port

not worth buying fampai

>all that old outdated shit

No need grandpa. Enjoy being left behind lmao.

Yeah but they cut out good important shit like more than one hdmi , im not going to use a fucking thunderbolt port

since when is line in and microphone in outdated? I use them on a daily basis.

>im not going to use a fucking thunderbolt port

Don't buy mac

Yeah , but what if i find one in the dumpster, and try to revive it

How customizable or not is this thing? Does Apple still solder the RAM to the mobo? I've never bought an Apple product because I couldn't swap hardware or install the OS I wanted.

Theres very little space but you can change the parts like ram, hard drive, battery etc.

Why wouldn't you use a dedicated external component for audio? Anything they build in can't be that great.

No, tyrone.

i'm saying for microphone. Why should I need an external device to plug in my modmic for my headphones?

>no mic/line in
That is indeed stupid.

>no SPDIF
It does have that actually.

>only 4 USB
It's enough really. If you need more than that, use some hub. You probably won't use as many though.

>No PS/2
>no Serial port
Come on, that must be a joke.

the greatest keyboard ever made uses PS/2, serial is extremely useful for networking applications and management

It's for professions. Professionals use an interface.

you might not realize this, but nearly all the sound chips in computers of all kinds since the standardization of DVD are more or less about the same -- that is, quite good -- the only differences are in the range of options

so, go ahead and pay $2000 for an external DAC, when the sound chip in your $150 compaq laptop from 2008 produces audio that is indistinguishably the same

I work in a server room and no one touches anything to do with serial

>when the sound chip in your $150 compaq laptop from 2008 produces audio that is indistinguishably the same
Fuck no. Have you actually tried the realtek shit they put into low to mid range mainboards during 2008? They were fucking horrible. Constant noise, cut-off treble, and distortions at higher volumes. There's no fucking way any professional would consider using shit like that. And this is not some audiophile bullshit criticism, anyone can hear that very clearly.

Anyway, you are right that they just should have put in a mic/line out, same goes for all their products. No idea why they removed it.

>serial
>extremely useful

Since the 90s the only thing serial gets used for is network gear console access.

/thread

LOL moron, record with your iPhone, then upload to the iCloud and download with your iMac.

>replace decent OS with literal garbage

Read properly, he wants to replace OSX *with* Arch, not the other way around.

> 4 USB is enough
Mouse, keyboard, trackball... only one left already.
Why would I have to put up with some more cable mess by using a hub?

and the garbage can computer should have a garbage os

I like that there's a connector for speakers and another one for headphones. What a great array of compatibility for audio output devices!

/thread

What more does it need than S/PDIF?

What the flying fuck is S/PDIF?

What the flying fuck is Google?

>socket 2011 cpus
>4 year old hardware
> gets raped by newest gen imacs in everything except video
>use iMovie and you wont even notice a difference from a 10k$ trashcan, and a 3000$ imac.
>Apple is a joke

Just hackintosh a mini itx system for 1500$ and get overall better performance than all of the above.

I was trying to make a point. Nobody uses SPDIF compatible devices. It is neither a necessity or a proper replacement of stereo jacks.

Holy shit that pic

You're shit at making points. You sounded like nothing more than a retard who can't into Google.
>nobody uses SPDIF
but that's wrong.

Isn't it better to connect a keyboard to a PS/2 port though?
Genuinely asking.

>Nobody
proving once again that people who buy mac "pro" are anything but "pro"

>mac """""""""""""""""""""pro""""""""""""""""""""""

>tfw it's actually on pornhub

I own a PC. The onboard audio does not support S/PDIF. Why? Because my microphones and speakers use 3.5mm jacks. Like 99% of the audio device that have been manufactured for the past few decades.

>Like 99% of the audio device that have been manufactured for the past few decades.
But few will fitted once the industry starts following Apple yet again. But it will take the industry 5 years to spot a trend.

Hello my friend
I am ready to kill myself and eat my dog
Anything less would be uncivilized. Look at the site and call (917) 565 3894. They have me hooked up to some kind of "machine" that canread my mind.
My manager has purchased a weapon. I told thesewersystem to delete"that thing" that we buried.

>two mice

If you want a Mac Pro get a 3,1

Given he's asking about operating systems to run on the trashcan I'm guessing he's already got one.

>battery

Everything you expect to be replaceable is but only the CPU and RAM are standard

you obviously don't know the point of a media workstation

but it's a thunderbolt display problem, not mac pro. they haven't refreshed the fucking line since 2011 and they still produce it with the same flaws for years.

I'm trying to picture the face of someone saying this, even ironically.

I'm guessing the real motive behind this post is a reaction, surely the follow-up will deny this though

Sell trashcan to someone who actually likes OS X. Build 1.5x more powerful workstation for arch.
Pocket the leftover $500.

so apple monitors only last 5 years? is that really what you are saying?

>Two Princes

Guys you can just use adapters for most of this shit besides maybe PS/2. Even then I don't think many people can even justify it.

My HiFiMeDIY USB thing came with SPDIF in the 3.5mm jack. Didn't even realise, was a nice surprise. Gets me more volume than the regular audio out on my mobo anyhow.

The only reason someone gets a computer like that is brand/aesthetics.

Then they compromise later with adapters and such, if they even had the foresight for them.

All that matters for most users really is whether the hardware is capable of performing the functions you require in the timeframe you set.

You didn't state a single usage case. Just an OS and hardware you were considering using for whatever the mysterious purpose is.

Why are you guys all arguing in response to ANOTHER "is x useful for something I'm never going to tell you?" thread?

> my computer is so shit I have to buy a billion usb gadgets to use it
> i have to buy a usb hub because it doesn't have enough ports

So many assumptions.
OP was probably given that thing as a gift and is considering selling it.
Personally I use a USB mouse, keyboard, mic, and that tiny USB DAC/amp.

Granted those single port macbooks are totally ridiculous, but this isn't what we're dealing with here. My only regret is not getting an ITX motherboard, and I'd only ever use a Mac if it was specifically for and provided by a workplace.

Get your head out of your ass. Not everyone has the same usage requirements.

In fact my key point was that OP never actually stated what he wanted to do with his computer after setting up Arch.
