Ayy yo, tablet thread

Anyone know where I can find a good quality Windows tablet for low price.

Mostly want it for notes, reading comics, browsing memes and news.

How long have you had a tablet, do you like it, would you get another?

it's 2016. you can't meme browse unless you're on a computer or a iphone.

Waaat? No way!

You could get a used Surface Pro 2 for about $350.
Decent battery life of about 5-7 hours, ultrabook tier performance, and a Wacom digitizer.

How hot does it get when charging while in-use?

Thinkpad Yoga.
Newest has wacom pen if you're into art.

As hot as any other laptop. Its cool when you're web browsing, watching youtube and typing documents. It gets hot when you're playing games and shit on it.

Ok, I don't see myself really playing games on it.

I'm a little surprised the SP2 would still be $350, though.

>I'm a little surprised the SP2 would still be $350, though.
It was an incredibly niche device, that's nowhere near as usable as the newer SP3 and SP4. But you're getting a fuckton of performance for your dollar.

These things are fucking great for artwork though.

So the screen is better?

Only thing that tripped me up is that I almost bought a SP3 new back in march for about the same price when some company was doing a promo.

Came here to also rec the Surface Pro 2. I got mine for drawing. But all-round performance is great. Its a lovely device. Don't see any reason to upgrade to an SP3 or 4 ever.

Anyone in this thread run Linux on a Surface Pro (or any other tablet?) I travel a fair amount and it would be nice to have something extremely lightweight and portable but with a keyboard and the functionality to do a little bit of work.

The Lenovo miix 310 looks interesting. Inexpensive and newest atom CPU. I nicht geht one to replace my fat, hot AMD Richland laptop.
The x5 is no i5-U, but I ain't gonna run Autocad on it anyway.

>Wacom digitizer with 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity
>$299
>microUSB3 on the tablet
>keyboard dock with 2 USB2
>64GB/128GB SSD
>Intel Core M 5Y10c 2GHz
>fanless
>microSD
>HDMI
>9Ah battery
>4GB RAM
>10.6" IPS 1920x1080

Haven't seen you posting here for ages.

I heard the Cube is riddled with issues. Really tempting specs, although I already have the Surface 3.

I thought it was great, until I managed to smash the glass while going to gigs all over the country, drunk and on Xanax. Now the capacitive digitizer sometimes register multiple touches all over the screen when there's supposed to be only one.
The keyboard dock is awesome too, made from magnesium, with a keyboard that I actually prefer to the one on my X61t (RIP), made from magnesium, with two full USB ports and a stylus silo. The clicky touchpad though...
Performance was much better than what I get on my C2D ThinkPads, the CPU runs at 2GHz all the time with no problems. Too bad I didn't get to try Civilization V until I managed to fuck it up.

...

If it had 8GB of RAM and a 4G/GPS module, it'd be an ideal computer for me to take around everywhere I go and work/draw/take notes/fuck around with. The size is ideal. Here it is with an X61t and a Vaio P for comparison, taken on a potato G.

>good quality
>windows tablet

Is the Sony Vaio Canvas Z the best tablet there is?
>fucking 16 GB of RAM
>512 GB/1TB SSD
>multiple ports on the unit itself
>decent battery life
>costs the same as Surface Pro 4, or even cheaper from what I've seen
>looks sexy
Downside is obviously Windows 10 but this seems like the best tablet I've seen. No 2gb ram with like 32mb flash storage shit.

isn't it also something like 3000 bonerinos?

That's the original MRP but like I said I've seen it for way cheaper than the Surface Pro 4/Surface Book for like $900-1000 something range, brand new.

Personally I wish to see a new iteration of that sony e-ink device that came out a few years ago

youtube.com/watch?v=zrp9TxgFBdw

i wonder how it feels to write on that.
I've seen many people seek for the Holy Grail of tablets/pens where it feels as if you're actually writing on real paper/pencil. If Sony can achieve that on that device I'm sure Wacom might not be the king anymore.

>>fucking 16 GB of RAM
>tfw you fell for it

who in their right mind would use a Windows tablet in the first place

I just want a large resolution (medium to large size please) e-ink screen, a decent digitizer, and PDF annotation support at a good price. I've got none of that because the Sony DPT-S1 is 700 dollars and I'd feel guilty spending so much on a device that can ONLY annotate PDFs.

I have a big Android tablet and Android really sucks for that size. A 12" computer really needs windowing capabilities. And most of the apps are made for smaller devices.

bump

Gentoo "runs" on my SP2. You need to set up powertop or something or it runs hot and eats the battery life though. I'm not sure about the pen since I mostly used it in the terminal or dwm with Chromium. There are patches for the kernel for stuff, but you'll need to dig around for them.

>Sony Vaio
Not anymore.
