>tfw i7 930 @ 3.44 GHz
I love mine!
Good for you user, keep on keeping on:)
same
I actually undervolted it a little because it's enough @4.4 on all cores
I, clearly, left mine at stock. I might look into doing that as well then.
ITT buyers remorse
speedy speed boy
Sitting here with my custom loop, its 27c outside right now, due to hit 32 apparently.
I've managed to hit 4.7Ghz OC but I don't feel like pushing my luck when its really hot, so right now its just sitting at its base 4.0.
Where the hell do you live? That's impressive.
are other people starting to make these threads now?
does my i7-2620m on my thinkpad count?
4790k @ 4.6ghz
What cooler
lmao what temps are you getting ? running mine at 4.1 , solid 60C on idle and often goes above 80C , somehow didnt crash yet.

wh...why is your mobo so hot? I think you have ventilation problems
It's a laptop
OP you should upgrade
I'm kinda retarded so I don't feel comfortable taking it apart and fucking with the insides :/, and I'm too poor to take it to a repair shop :(

Cheers man
That feel when I bought two 1440p monitors where one has a stuck pixel and I go out of my way to notice the ips glow.
I love feeling buyers remorse sometimes.
Hello
4790k is currently 4.9 @ 1.370
Could be lower but It's stable and I don't feel like messing with it.
I think that is normal look at mine.

Is it going to be a bottleneck for gamen if I get a current gen card?
I can overclock, but I still have to look into the settings I need for it (P6T-SE)

Better hope the retailer will let you return it for a 5820K once you realise you've been conned.
Could just be Speccy being shit.
Speccy reports my CPU and motherboard being incredibly hot as well but in the BIOS it shows temps I'd expect.
Unless your laptop is giving you second degree burns I wouldn't worry about it. Speccy is a piece of shit and I'd wish Sup Forums would find another meme program that actually works properly.
It's probably not the case here, I fell for an aluminum laptop meme and it's so hot :'
6 cores coming through.
Sure, if you could actually play any gaymes.

Should have went with the Dell or Asus (U2515H/PB258Q) They're all based on the same 25" 1440p IPS panel, but dell has better quality control.
I got the asus versions cause they were $265 on sale and the only thing they drop is the USB hub on the Dell and it doesn't have DP out like the Dell.
(mine )
I bet you can't even boil water with yours, fucking casual!
I'm at 4.7GHz, what more can I ask for considering some 6600k and 6700k can't even get stable past 4.5GHz and they have 2 less cores.
I tried to mount an old zalman, doesnt fit because of MB capacitors, put back the intel radiator and now it goes over 70 ... I don't get what went wrong to go from 70 max to over 85 on load
...
Did you replace the thermal paste?
Also make sure its mounted securely and firmly.
You may need to replace it if you broke one of the retention pins.
But user, those specs are everything but masterrace...
X99 peasant coming through.
Playing GRID Autosport atm, explaining the temps
I have a poor chip, pushing past 4.2GHz requires crazy voltages that my cooler can't handle. I am still very content with this purchase, I might be upgrading to Zen/Kaby Lake next year, mainly for that M.2 goodness but some extra performance wouldn't hurt
previously it still had the stock intel thermal pad, which looked awful
the zalman cooler has a small tube of thermal paste which I used, but it might be very old (was not open)
I had that zalman at a garage sale for 5€ and it has clearly never been used
>debian
>GNOME
>plebian i5
kill urself
yeah probably shit thermal paste. Pick up something newer. And if you want to OC, pick up a $30-40 heatsink/fan and you'll be able to get a healthy OC on that 2600k.
yes it's a good occasion for that, I bought a deepcool gammaxx and some grizzly kryonaut
People told me that prices for Skylakes will never drop. Is that true?
I mean, I wanted to replace my current PC with i5-750 with some good i7 but the price is too high.
Basically everywhere I looked, 1650 PLN and importing from Germany or UK would actually result in bigger price. Combine it with price of RX 480 and I get more than I paid for my current PC.
Do I have any options like waiting? Or perhaps I can either pay monsterous 4200 PLN for new PC or use my i5-750 until it break down?
It is just too sad for me.
:^)
4.2 on a 920 for seven years now. Sits at about 45C.
You can overclock the piss out of a 920. 4.2ghz is the limit of my board not the CPU.
You could hope for Zen to be decent and putting some pressure on Intels pricing.
Then again, AMD usually disappoints.
You are principally right, just watch out that you have the D0-Stepping. With the C0-Stepping you can go about 3,6-3,8 without rocking out the Voltage of the CPU.
WIth the C0-Stepping you need about 1,4V for 4GHz.
t. i7-920 C0 @3,6Ghz-Owner
Did the same when I got mine.
Put a random voltage setting lower than what it was doing stock, it works perfectly and I haven't messed with it to see if it could go lower.
I have an AMD A10 APU, the A10 is basically the i7 counterpart at AMD, is this ok too?
>D0
>C0
Completely forgot about this. I got lucky with a golden chip D0. It'll happily do 4-4.2ghz on that voltage and I only feed it a bit more because it's getting old.
It's been running that speed almost all day every day since 2009 and it happily pushed further in a higher quality board.
I'll be swapping it for an X5650 at some stage. Do a lot of rendering and the extra grunt would be nice. Plus they're dirt cheap nowadays.
I would rather want to see price frop for Skylakes, because of Kaby Lake and Zen.
Zen will use new socket after all. I dont even want to think about the prices for new motherboards.
Im pissed off to be honest. I used to pay 2500 PLN for good PC and everyone considered it high. Now 4500 is considered fine.
I hate this. I would need to save for 9 months just to buy new PC. My monthly income is 1500 PLN, you know.
>be 2500k god race
>running at 4.5ghz since launch 5 yrs ago

i7-5820K @ 4.2 reporting in
I am running the 3,6 GHz since also 2009. At first with stock-voltage, now it needs 1,312V like in your pic for the same clock because of ageing.
Once pushed it to 4,4Ghz with 1,45V + LLC ON for benches.
>Once pushed it to 4,4Ghz with 1,45V + LLC ON for benches.
That's REALLY impressive for a C0. Furthest I went was 4.6 (220mhz) in a Rampage II a friend had. Was 1.41V or 1.42V from memory but it's been years. I'm sure it could go further with patience, but I noticed it stopped getting that linear performance increase past 4.2 anyway.
My plan at the moment is to swap the board for a Rampage II and drop an X5650 in. Should do 200mhz FSB easily and be a nice performance increase for not much money.
Thought about an SR2 and two X5650s but I'd have to stick to a full tower case which isn't the way I want to go.
75C on max load. i dont even bother overclocking it because it's not gonna give me much other than higher temps. doubt it would even work since i cheaped out on mobo back then so doesn't overclock well regardless.
...
Takes up minimal space and plays all my favorite games at max
It has option to overclock
Tried it back in 2009. Nevertheless, it was luck, that the bench got through. I don't think the CPU could handle it nowadays. Also have to mention the 4,4Ghz only was possible with the Turbofeature and with an even higher Voltage. Damn was I crazy back then.
200Mhz FSB shouldn't be a problem for any motherboard.
eh sure
>200Mhz FSB shouldn't be a problem for any motherboard.
Some of them just act weird with X5650s in them, assuming they work at all. My current board works but doesn't see it properly so "200mhz" only runs 150mhz.
It still works out to be better for rendering and what not but I'd prefer to pay the extra and get a board that'll run it perfectly. A nice NOS board should guarantee another x many years out of the computer as well. I'm getting a little cap whine on this one at times.
I'm not really chasing monster clocks, I know 200mhz should be stable all day and those chips are
don't worry be happy baby
I've started lurking here on Sup Forums (from Sup Forums to /guts/ and /bst/) and I've always been wondering, do you guys actually boot Windows 10? or you have it on VM?
>NOS board
Good old days.
Maybe then it's 200Mhz for any board with an 9X0.
I'm considering getting a i7-980 somewhere cheap if it's possible for them 6 cores. A stable OC. Getting another few years out of this rig. Heat and consumption isn't a problem for me. What you think about it?
>i7-980
Get an X5650 instead. 2.66ghz 6 cores, 12 threads. Will do 4.2-4.4 without even trying in a Rampage II and a handful of other boards.
Just gotta do a bit of research but it'll cost you way less than a 980 and still smash out great performance.
I will get a look at it.
Board is a P6T-Deluxe.
Maybe it will run smoothly on it.
At least it made the 4,4Ghz without hesitation.
Quick google says P6T with latest bios will boot an X5650 (and X5670/X5680). No mention of overclocking, but I don't see why it wouldn't. Obviously ymmv but it's a way cheaper approach than a 980 and most of the X5650 in circulation came out of servers (HP Z600 was a popular one) and haven't been stressed much in their lifetime. I doubt there's a 980 in existence that hasn't seen overclocking.
Should mention I have the first version of the P6T Deluxe. There were two versions of it. But I wouldn't see a problem. If google says so.
For sure those X5650 are less stressed, than those 980. No reason in OCing a server-CPU. Basically any person who said No-OC in their i7-9x0-article are lying.
>But I wouldn't see a problem. If google says so.
Just double check everything before spending any money.
>For sure those X5650 are less stressed, than those 980.
That's the big appeal, that and they're everywhere and cheap.
>Basically any person who said No-OC in their i7-9x0-article are lying.
Agreed.
Good luck with it.
>Not knowing how DDR works.
