Do you still use floppy disks?

Do you still use floppy disks?

I actually had to use a floppy disk and FreeDOS in a radiation experiment on a lab recently. The machinery is not that old, but the software works as it should and there's no reason to change it.

What's even the point of vinyl when FLAC is objectively superior?

Yes

> Using a digital signal which doesnt offer the same vibrancy or fidelity you get from a warmer, more natural sounding analog format like the record

Fuck off retard

Not on modern computers, but I've got a couple old ones that use 3.5 and 5.25s.
Some people like physical objects. My dad has a bunch of vinyl he listens too. Why get rid of them?

actually last week to load some ahci drivers while installing on an obscure microstar board

>wanting """"warmth and fidelity"""" (which is literally just electrical noise) polluting the recording

>lower dynamic range
>media that degrades
>needing to buy expensive equipment just to get a better sound
>Replacing the needle
>preamps that can fail and be exposed to interference
>expensive, unpirateable media

I understand the novelty of using records and why it would be attractive in a nostalgia type of way but FLAC is objectively superior sound quality.

You can't just say FLAC is superior.
Hell, I can a rip an LP in FLAC if I wanted to.
It's all about the source.
If it is ripped from the master tapes, it should sound good.
Remastered versions usually sound good too.
Most of the songs on hdtracks are ripped from SACD or the master tapes so.

I put the same floppy drive I've had since the 90s into every new build I make just for the hell of it.

>crosley
might as well play your records on a stove top

Only when you have deal with systems that were build prior to bootable optical and flash media.

Motherboards don't have floppy headers for half a decade anymore. You must have quite an old board.

>not listening to FLAC vinyl rips for that perfect blend of analog warmness combined with the snappiness and fidelity of a lossless format

You guys arguing about FLAC vs vinyl...

Isn't the important thing that you have good speakers?

Like even FLAC will sound like shit on a crappy pair of headphones.

I'd say MP3 on good speakers > FLAC on apple headphones

nope,I do feel feel weird for ocasionally burning CD-R's or DVD+RW's
>comfy pizza shaped rainbow thingey :^)

Yes.

Sure

>>media that degrades
>not taking care of your media
>>needing to buy expensive equipment just to get a better sound
>implying nice turntables are expensive on the second hand market
>>expensive, unpirateable media
>what is a tape recorder
>what is a PC with line in
sure you can't press your own with ease but you can still record it pretty easily for use on other devices

not going to defend the sound quality hype though, that shit's dumb, vinyl is all about the fun, novelty and the nice album art, it feels much more worth the money to get a really nice embossed album cover with big inserts and frameable artwork than a shitty plastic disk in a shitty plastic case with some cheap paper inserts that will languish on a shelf and be overlooked by everyone
