BEST EDITOR (NOT IDE)

What is the best editor? I used Atom before but it was slow af so I switched to Visual Studio Code. I'm loving it right now and I was surprised that I've never heard of such a great editor. Are there any other editors I shoud know of before settling with visual studio code?

Isn't this bannable?
I use vim.

emacs is a brain dead GNU abortion. if you value your health and mental well being do NOT use GNU emacs

sad!

Windows: Notepad++

Linux: Vim

o

vim

Geany is clearly the only choice

>using the smiley with a carat nose

Notepad++ on windows. VS Code was awful when I used it but it may have gotten better. Vim or Nano on Linux

Only two of those are editors

Heythha

Atom is a meme

If you like atom but you feel its slow, try sublime text, if you are on linux and dont want any of those try vim, emacs or spacemacs

avoid nano at all coast

Emacs

Everything else is everything less

Visual Studio, of course.

Noooo

This xD

Sublime is fine. Good on *nix based systems. Just set up a bash global so you can open shit from bash or ehatever you use.

What was awful in particular? I only started recently but I like it a lot.

I don't do much programming except shitting out some random utility in C now and then, but I edit a lot of plaintext documents that undergo frequent revision so the built-in git with gui repo controls is nice.

All of the plugin shit that tries to make it an IDE suck complete ass though.

you haven't been paying attention huh?

slow as shit.

GNU Emacs. It's the only sane choice.

Reblogged

people ar eno even subtle with this meme.
Is there anything wrong with NP+ or I am not in on some meme?

Sure it is not the best, but it is not worth memeing on.

Vim is just a text editor that can be extended quite a bit. Emacs is more than a mere text editor, It can do whatever you want. Overall, it really depends on what you want from your text editor, I like how emacs doubles as an IDE.

Just enable evil mode for vim key emulation.

...

>mfw I had to rebind control to caps lock, because my pinky felt funny

vim

TextMate ;v»

FUCK OFF PAJEET

This

Emacs for life

RIP pinkie =(

Buddy, just enable evil mode. You get the best of both worlds, you get the vim configurations with the power of emacs. Everyone wins.

sublime text

>paying for a text editor

Why would you pay for a text editor?

Sam

Emacs is getting a full-featured webkit browser soon.

There is literally ZERO reason to use anything else.

vi (m)

He meant it ironically :^)

>using the smiley with a carat nose

vim

I love my mom, but sometimes i'm afraid i disappoint her

Sublime 2

i like vscode.
>intellisense that plugins can use
>inbuilt debugger that can be set up with plugins and works for example with simple web apps but also cpp debuggers like gdb
>git/svn integration
>lightweight
>configurable
>extensible
>open source(open source version is identical to closed source version except for usage data gathering and windows specific features)

its pretty decent actually i never thought this shit would come out of microsoft its a really decent editor that does more than a regular editor and lies somewhere between text editor and IDE.

Here's your (You)

Fuck

Visual Studio code is probably the best GUI editor, but there's no way it'll ever be on the same level as Vi or emacs or any other serious terminal editor.

Right now I use Atom because I got sucked into the Sublime Text life when I started coding. Going to start learning Vim soon if only because vi is what's built into every networking switch and embedded device on the planet so I may as well be familiar with how it works.

Ed for pretending to be cool
Tecoc for when ed is too mainstream
Vi for nostalgia
Videoteco for when vi is too mainstream
Nano for pretending to be sane
Joe and ne for when nano is too mainstream
Vim for wasting your time re-aligning your tiling WM's config file
Nvi for bloated hipsters
Sandy for minimal hipsters
Atom and sublime because you can't comprehend anything but notepad keybindings
Terminal emacs for hating yourself
Graphical emacs for real work
Sam for being a major neckbeard
Acme for being an ascended neckbeard
Wily for being too stupid to get plan9port working

No it isn't. Nano can do more than vim can and it has FUCKING HOTKEYS

What do you mean when you say that Vim has no hotkeys..?

>Emacs user gets RSI
>"you can pry C-x C-s from my cold, dead hands!"
>Another emacs user gets RSI
>"I'll just....are they listening? Yes? Keep it default, emacs is great as it is, i'm glad GNU is sticking to tradition. Oh god, no richard, I really meant it, no, not my dog, AAAAAAAHthat's kind of hot"

>Vim user gets RSI
>"I guess I'll remap the keys then"

That it has no fucking hotkeys. Can you ctrl s to automatically save?

Yeah you can

vim.wikia.com/wiki/Mapping_keys_in_Vim_-_Tutorial_(Part_1)

Plugins yay

What plugins?

You don't need plugins to do that

sublime master race

Cannot agree more.

There's even a page for your exact question!

I use notepad++ to take notes, but I've looked at iAWriter and it looks good, especially the markdown preview.
Are there any editors like that on windows or linux?

>tfw emacs can do literally anything
>even gain time that's long been lost
I'm gonna start using it now.
Also, why does Notepad even have a curve? It should be a flat because there is nothing to learn.

Windows note pad

Why not Vim on Windows?

>Usefulness of editor relies on half-assed integration with a UNIX shell
>no UNIX shell, just some laggy ports
>unless you use windows botnet

gvim

atom
notepad plus plus.

mad

Same shit.

UNIX shell, not VT100 emulator.

sheldor pls no

>atom
>slow
stop using windows

honest question, is it worth to learn vim?
im finding difficult to press ctrl+[ everytime without failing and its kinda exasperating

I tried vim once.
>try to exit
>no obvious on terminal help labels
>try typing exit
>doesnt work
>try ctrl+c
>doesnt work
>start to panic
>sweat starting to drip down my brow
>have to kill the process to get out of it
Never fucking again.

Emacs > uEmacs > spacemacs > ed > nano > cat > vim

But but :q is so intuitive LOL

Botnet. Probably sends all your code to their servers

Nigger

Its not vims fault your retarded.

Emacs is not an editor, it's a whole family of editors. You probably meant GNU Emacs when you said "Emacs."

>being this retarded
