The point of recommending Snapdragon is that almost all Chinese phones come pre-loaded with a bunch of spyware and bloat apps as standard in the ROM. You can't uninstall the apps or spyware so the only option is root and flash a new rom. Snapdragon has better CM13 support and Mediatek has almost no ROM support. There's no point having extra performance if 27% of it is taken up by spyware and bloat sending all your information back to China with no option to remove it. That's why nobody in their right mind recommends Mediatek.
