>>terrible hardware
[citation needed]
Ian Young
I repair macs all day and they are basically designed to fail after a year or 2. Instead of cooling them properly they just let the components throttle themselves to death and the capacitors just barely meet the required specs. I have probably replaced the exact same capacitor hundreds of times and it's the same on every model. The gpus get recalled every single year and apple doesn't give a fuck. Their "desktops" are just laptop boards in different cases and throttle just as hard.
Leo Gonzalez
no it wouldn't
OS X is reliable software because it only targets a limited subset of hardware
Jack Sanchez
well meme'd!
Ryder Reed
The desktops are outdated The laptops are made of aluminum and the screen is broken by design. You get a better experience by getting something else that can run OSX if you really want that sort of stuff.
Leo Myers
I want to know what drives people like this to save these sorts of screencaps, and keep them saved, just waiting for the right moment to whip them out
Do you really want me to trawl the bug tracker of your distro of choice and start posting shit from there?
Just kidding, you probably use Windows anyway. Even Linux users aren't as big of a faggot as you
Cooper Price
>Mac OS X >shit package management Homebrew. You should install it right after you get your Mac. >terrible hardware It is indeed a worse price/performance ratio, but you get better build quality. >ludicrously pricey See point above. Not to mention that you get OS X, which is the perfect combination of linux (UNIX, the only good thing) and normie stuff (way more people use OS X than linux, so more applications).
Nolan Stewart
>>Windows >>No Unix shell that properly integrates with the OS >>spies on everything you do >>full disk encryption is a joke >>adware built in you're a retarded sadfrog.
windows is not unix. windows is an absolutely insane (in the bad sense of the word) system design. They tried to separate things out, to make it easier for them to build, and in increasing the complexity of the system, all it resulted in was fragmentation of their own system.
Registry - a place for all devices, and system settings to reside, loaded at run time. if something edits the registry, or crashes while reading the registry, you're fucked. hence why you need to reboot all the time. their OS DOESN'T EVEN WORK.
UNIX/BSD/macOS - everything is treated as a """file""", all accessed with URI's, and services are subscribed to, instead of criss-crossing over each other trying to get updates from a device. things are written in distributed locations, but in a logical hierarchy. Users reap the benefits of the thoughtful design of Unix through it's stability, and developers can make a better user experience by taking advantage of such a system in was that are impossible to do on Windows.
Linux is going the way of Windows with all the fragmentation, and infighting among the developer community. No one can even agree on a fucking init system, a standard way to interface with the kernel, and everyone has their own ideas for what direction the platform should go in. it's a huge fucking mess.
then why have the four mac's I own (rMBP's and a mac mini, and a plastic macbook) never shit the bed on me once in the 10 years i've owned them? sounds like you just enjoy being a computer janitor.

Alright let's be honest here, Linux is cool and all but Windows and OS X are still way better than anything else.
Linux is still confusing and retarded to use for your average person and you can't even play fucking games on it. I'm just your average Joe, but I have my needs, I enjoy playing games every once in a while. Does that make me a criminal?
I am a windows 10 user and do not care at all about the privacy stuff. I will let corporations data mine the shit out of me all day and night and do not care. It really doesn't affect me unless someone somehow exposes all my information and data to the public to see and that is not going to happen. It goes to companies for better advertising and stuff and I am willing to provide all my information for that.
I think OS X is top notch. Apple is awesome and their products barely depreciate and they have a really good brand. You turn a Mac on and it all works perfectly and smoothly. Linux takes so much time and effort and the result is worse than windows 10. Unless they can create an operating system that is not retarded to use and play games then nothing is going to change here.
Ethan Hall
>they who do you think "they" are? "They" is you.
Angel Murphy
>. It goes to companies for better advertising and stuff and I am willing to provide all my information for that.
You are literally everything wrong with society today. You don't even need to be bought, you willingly give yourself away. Please die and take your kin with you.
Robert Evans
How does it even affect me? Every time you download an app or do pretty much anything on the internet they ask you for your information or take it without you even knowing. It is impossible to avoid.
I could care less about what they do with my information. I keep my privacy settings on for that reason. I am happy to help out other companies I enjoy windows services.
But like I said, unless they sell my info to some creep and he goes through my porn history I honestly have no issue with it.
Logan Carter
wait, i thought that ubuntu linux shell does actually integrate with windows 10 - you can call windows specific apis on it.
or am i wrong here?
of course the downside is the botnet.

I had a plastic Macbook and it fell apart like a cookie. The build quality was terrible. In fact it was the worst quality out of all my laptops over the years and I have tried Acer, HP, Apple and Lenovo. My next one will probably still have to be Lenovo because others can't make them right. >inb4 you must have played basketball with them since werks fer mehâ„¢

3.1. Apple, Inc
Cupertino, CA July, 2005 - Present
Director, UNIX technology group (June, 2005 - Present)
Since June of 2005, I have been the Director of UNIX Technology, a larger organization which comprises the BSD technology, OS Security, Data Security and Vector and Numerics groups. In this role, I continue to be responsible for much of the "UNIX face" of MacOSX in addition to its evolving security mechanisms and low-level optimization in the numerics space. Much of my current efforts are focused on creating better and more fundamental security technologies in MacOSX rather than focusing on individual security "incidents" which encourage one to attack symptoms rather than considering the more fundamental problems. This is a particularly interesting challenge given Apple's traditional ease-of-use mandate, requiring a somewhat more innovative approach to providing effective security.
Manager, BSD technology group (July, 2001 - June, 2005)
As the manager of Apple's BSD technology group, I was responsible for overseeing the integration of BSD and other open source technologies into Darwin and MacOS X. Also in charge of the UNIX commands and libraries portion of Mac OS X, which is to say most of that which gives Mac OS X its "UNIX personality", and driving adoption of it into the UNIX and generally tech-savvy (Science and Technical) market. My group was relatively small, 6 people, but very focused on all matters having to do with UNIX and open source in general. This made us one of the primary groups within Apple who drove the adoption of open source within the engineering organization and generally evangelized the advantages thereof, both internally and externally at developer conferences like WWDC. I also ran the open source track at WWDC, given my background as one of the founders and architects of FreeBSD and long history (some might say notoriety) with the open source community.

windows 7 works just fine. I didn't even need to rice it just disable shit I didn't want. and no microsoft can't connect to it. I've checked plenty of times.

can we add sound to the linux list?
Owen Smith
They don't suck. I use Windows and it just works. I wouldnt replace it with anything. Macs also dont suck for the basic user. Linux, however...
Aiden Turner
Macs are better for tech oriented people than windows. The only reason windows is around is because most people don't know any better when they're using a shitty product
Lucas Watson
>44100Hz by default - audio bugs in programs >suspends audio device, so you have to wait .5 seconds for it to wake Yeah. For all its problems Windows at least handles the audio and video well.
Jayden Bennett
Nah I use windows because of GAMES and I work in tech.
It just WERKS too.

Macs only exist cause people are stupid and they fall for the exclusivity meme. Have you ever had a job or seen a firm? They all use windows.
Julian Harris
>I had a plastic Macbook and it fell apart like a cookie Are you the kind of people that buy cheap headphones because "they broke in a week"?
Isaac Lopez
>People only use macs because they want to be cool :^)
Easton Jones
No, I don't break anything. My current laptop has been with me longer than the Macbook and it's still in perfect condition. I also have not broken the glass of any of my smartphones ever. I handle things with care but if something has been made terribly then there's not much that I can do.
Daniel Diaz
I also didnt want to believe.
Nolan Edwards
With Wayland in particular Canonical, which make the only commercially successful distro decided they wanted their own graphics server. Meanwhile Google took Gentoo and made their own working, successful OS out of it, with their own graphics server in no time.
>Why the fuck are open sores devs so incompetent? A lot of the projects are funded by enthusiasts and managed by foundations that spend the money on female outreach programs and other bullshit. By comparison the Linux kernel is - Funded by big corporations - Controlled by Linus This is why. Lack of stable funding, lack of direction and control from someone who knows what the hell they're doing.
Gavin Nelson
Macs exist because Steve Jobs had a vision, and the steel to get it done, to build the best computer system for people.

cant you just try to boot a secondary OS from a USB?
use windows 10 for daily normie shit, nobody cares about your consistent 9fagging at work.
then when you get home, boot a linux distro from a USB or harddrive and browse freely knowing that not every key you press is being sent straight to bill gates' desktop. if you feel like playing games, you go back to the windows.

i have evidence showing mac os not running like shit. we can pick cherries all day if you want. until you understand the principles of OS design, you'll never understand why BSD, and by extension macOS is better.

Caleb Roberts
UNIX is literally not modular. It's a complete system, it even has standard GUI libraries that come with it. A UNIX is everything you need all at once.
You're thinking of linux, with the two major competing GUI toolkits that compete with older versions of themselves, 2-3 C libraries, 2 compiler/debuggers, like three different "standard" text editors (does it come with vim as vi, nano, or just ed? you never know), a fuckload of package managers and ports systems, You're thinking of linux, which actually has multiple init systems, multiple device managers, multiple sound systems, multiple filesystems....
You're thinking of linux Fragmented shit designed with no clear goal in mind The kernel that does a million things and does a small handful of them well and the schizophrenic userland that can't seem to accomplish anything but enlarge the egos of the hobby programmers responsible for it
Tyler Walker

you're right, but just to clairfy, i want to interject a quote i heard recently from an old sage

Modularity is part of the UNIX philosophy. OS X has no modularity, therefore it's not UNIX. But how about you post some examples instead of opinions and feelings?
Liam Williams
No, simplicity and dealing in text records is. Not providing a drop in replacement for init so your dumb ricer ass can sudo apt replace shit on a whim.
Gavin Miller
That made no sense. Why do I need a replacement for an init? I actually have one unlike OS X if I ever need one, but why? I'm also still waiting on those examples which I'm assuming will never arrive.
