wtf is gaming industry veteran a real job

>Diversity Engineer
>Chief Social Media Officer
>Social Media Guru
>Tech Evangelist
>Growth Hacker
>Javascript Ninja
>Code Artisan

I've seen all of these, btw.

honestly if you stay in the game industry for more than 5 years i think that "survivor" is a better term for you

What's wrong with the game industry?

You're seen as a disposable liability instead of an asset.
Not just you as an employee, your entire studio is on the chopping block.
Even if your game sold great, if your parent company wants to shed a little weight to improve their profit margins, you're out of a job.

it's where you go if you aren't smart enough to get a real job
the game industry is a pretty shitty place to work too, you will work your arse off for four years on practically no pay, the company you work for will fold and you'll have nothing to put on your resumé for your next codemonkey job
oh, and the executives will run off to majorca with six months worth of pay they owe you

I think this might be changing with MMO's and e-sports becoming more popular. I heard Riot was a great place to work

>the executives will run off to majorca with six months worth of pay they owe you
At least they are only stealing like four grand off of you!

Doesn't riot fire you if you play like an asshole in their own games?

>>Growth Hacker
Gardening?

>I've seen all of these, btw.
I highly doubt any company would be ridiculous enough to actually have diversity engineers

proof pls

I don't know but they are on the Forbes list of best places to work, so they can't be too bad

I think Blizzard, Riot, and Steam are the "big three" of the gaming world, all the best employees in the game industry probably go there while the rest aren't as good and aren't offered as good perks

wouldn't it be like jungle exploring?
'growth hacking' makes it sound like you are hacking your way through growth

>Steam

> made a game
> got it on steam
> game makes enough to live off of while I make another game

But don't get me wrong, it's not a real job. I'm basically leeching off of society. I produce nothing of value, but I get to live / buy things.

We live in a funny world.

What's a real job to you?
Construction?
Back breaking labor that produces physical things?

Most well-paying professions produce "nothing of value", they just push papers around that we treat as valuable.

Are you the the guy who made stardrive?

>stardrive
Nope, my game makes ~50k a year. Also, I'm not going to post it's name on Sup Forums.

That's fine, I was just taking a stab at the dark as there are several successful indie games made primarily by one person.

Would you be willing to share what tool(s) you personally used to develop your game, perhaps?

>Web Developer

Haskell and Python.

Oh, you're the faggot who made yandere simulator?

that's not a job title, just a title
