I guarantee that they will extend it

Do you have copious amount of cp on your computer?

No?

Then yes, you should install it.

>Should I install it?
yes of course, it's FREE after all :^)
>Does it perform better?
yes of course, microsoft spent thousands of hours improving the kernel while making sure it's still comaptible with all the win32 games and applications that we all love ;^)
>Is it worth it?
absolutely, you won't be disappointed I can guarantee it. we are even so sure that you will like it that there is an option to roll back to your previous windows version included and all for FREE :^)

You know, even being sarcastic, you make a good point for Microshaft

>Is it worth it?
It's good for a legacy OS

For everything else there is Debian

>2 days until it's no longer free.
Thank fucking god.
Now maybe they'll stop spamming me with this shit.

>2 days until it's no longer free.

"Upgrade" then roll back right away, so you wont have to worry about "free period".

>Does it perform better?

I have Win 10 "Pro" at work and Win 7 at home and cant really spot the difference in performance, except for searching going MUCH faster and thats basically all.

In order for it to work properly, you should do clean install anyway.

>Is it worth it?

If you are about to make new, clean install, yeah. If you are about to keep using your current OS, not really.

If you want to use Dx12, then yeah, pretty much you will be forced to, sooner or later. That kinda apply to any Windows, however. Just keep older version (XP or 7) on other drive, in case if something would refuse to work properly. Or set VM.

how do i upgrade my xubuntu to windows 10

But OP, we've already had this conversation

>In order for it to work properly, you should do clean install anyway.

fuck windows 10 then

Downloads and install a cracked Windows 7, then check for updates

You mean fuck windows in general. They've recommended a clean install over an upgrade since the 90s. It's just not a good fit when you try an smash all your old settings and software onto a new OS

It's not actually free, just gratis, and even then YOU are Microsoft's product, not their customer.

Which is lighter in terms of RAM usage in idle, W10 or W7? Assuming we have trimmed all those useless services at msconfig.

Also does W10 boots faster or the difference isn't that much?

Thats why I said to upgrade and roll back. Your key will stay "upgraded", if you would want to install it in the future (and if you want to continue using Windows line, you will have to, at some point) and at worst case, MS will get single spike of data that is useless for them anyway (since what they need are patterns, not one-time info).

>It's not actually free, just gratis

wat

it's not free as in beer.

beer isn't free. also, gratis means free.

I got ignored, I'll post it at sqt instead.

>beer isn't free
i've never paid for it

>Which is lighter in terms of RAM usage in idle, W10 or W7? Assuming we have trimmed all those useless services at msconfig.

Both my 7 on idle (I mean, 15 minutes after log in) and 10 right now eats 2gb of RAM (I checked right now, but I run Firefox and Libreoffice, thats around 300mb on memory). I guess they are similar, since my home have Avast and Nvidia control panel running (my work PC use integrated GPU and Defender).

>Also does W10 boots faster or the difference isn't that much?

Win 10 use same trick as 8 did, so it actually hibernate itself after logging out of user account. When I force it to actually restart, start up time is similar.

>No reply after like 3 minutes

For fuck sake.

done 1 year ago buddy

>upgraded to w10 only for the resizable cmd prompt
>use linux anyway because I can get easier and faster the compilers, libraries and software I need

Apart from the graphic drivers (I'm on AMD and the desktop compositing is meh) everything works better in Linux and I'm even getting better battery life than 10.

Also on 10 the search is buggy (worse than 8.1), the battery life is worse than 8.1 and there are many subtle (but occasionally annoying) bugs with the drivers and the interface.

If it wasn't for the resizable cmd I wouldn't bother with 10.
Linux is better in every way.

No. Keep Windows 7/8.1, they just werk. Install Ubuntu (or your favorite distro, personally I think Ubuntu LTS is a good choice for everyone, not only beginners) on a separate partition and start slowing learning and migrating to it in your free time (you have four years to complete the transition). When support for 7/8.1 ends, if Microsoft hasn't fixed Windows 10/11/or whatever, move to Linux completely. Vote with your OS choice and don't be cucks willing to accept any shit MS puts out.

But performance-wise it is worse than 7.

You're asking the wrong question. You don't WANT to have unused ram, even at idle. That's wasted potential. The whole point of ram is to try and have the files you actually use loaded up and waiting so your wait time is reduced. Having it constantly near full is better.

>Linux is better in every way.

No one is talking about linux here, just windows 7 vs windows 10. Get the fuck out.

Mfw dual boot windows 7 pro and windows 10 pro

>Having it constantly near full is better.

Unless more programs actually need the ram and can't use it, which will cause pagination and slow response if you don't have an SSD.

Can I create partitions without a fresh install?

Your post is missing *'s after FREE, guarantee and compatible.

>resizable cmd prompt
It has been resizable since at least Windows 7, only you can't do it thru the window borders.

Then it just ditches the files that are lower priority to make room. Either way trying to have near empty ram usage is completely the wrong idea, and a mistake newbs have been making for years. Sure you want to have your system use ram EFFICIENTLY, but there's no direct correlation between that and how much ram you use at idle.

Just shrink your windows partition to make room for the extra one.

>desktop icons flicker on 10
>can't make it look like 7
>taskbar is pig disgusting

I know that but it was tedious, now you can hit maximize in cmd and (gasp) it actually maximizes, like every other OS since the 90s

>Then it just ditches

How costly is the ditching vs simple new memory allocation?

>Can I create partitions without a fresh install?
Yes, use Windows Disk Management tool and the Shrink Volume option to reduce the size of your Windows partition. Then use the Ubuntu installer to create the Ubuntu partitions (the install program is pretty easy).

Not worth downgrading to 10 over that imo, but to each his own.

The biggest time constraint would be making sure that whatever you are removing from memory isn't critical to some process that's running. If you were trying to take back memory from some independent program like chrome, you would either have to wait for chrome to slowly comply or risk crashing it because something its counting on was taken away. With the system itself, it can earmark certain things as more disposable and get rid of them as soon as it wants. With enough ram it's not an either or scenario anyway. It won't fill ALL the ram usually, but keeping the first few gigs full at idle is just good practice

Should I install the developer version? I'm a programmer, not sure if it makes a difference.

you only had ONE job

There's no developer version, it's only one Desktop version. Maybe the ubuntu website makes it look that way, but once you click download it's the same.

>install windows 10
>become part of the botnet

...

So i installed 10 enterprise, pre activated it didn't de activate itself until i swapped out my gpu,and now it tells me it'll become unactivated at dec 3rd,what the fuck do i do,other than full reinstall?

Maybe he is from Microsoft and paid shill, that would be awesome.

You're probably on the 180 day trial, which is technically the only way anybody's cracked windows 10 anyway

>30/7/2016
how

You change the date?

Clock>Right click> Adjust date/time

Doubt so,it only told me this shit after i put a new GPU in pc,i had it for over 6 months now, worked fine and now it puts me on trial?
The fuck am i supposed to do,reinstall, how do i get my data off it,i could do backup but that'll just copy time over won't it?

What Linux should I use Sup Forums?
Is latest Ubuntu any good? What about Linux Mint?

Is there any problem with AMD cards because I'm using an old A10-5800k.

Just get used to unactivated windows. It's no big.

windowscentral.com/you-do-not-need-activate-windows-10

have been

Use mint. It is ubuntu, but a little better. Based on the fact that you're asking, it's your best choice

Is this true? last night i installed fresh w7 (for a windows 10 upgrade) on a laptop felt more responsive/snappy than windows 10 on the same laptop. Windows 7 seemed to boot faster as well

it doesn't work

can't wait for all the win 10 shill threads to disappear

...deposited on your meme account?

Because for some people every thread related to Windows MUST be made by marketeers.

You probably didn't disconnect from the internet first

They are

There is no reason to get Windows 10 unless you're some kind of normie retard who wants to have an easier time syncing his windows tablet with his PC to share appointments or use Cortana to find crap

Worthless

Nobody cares you faggot freetard.

>Parjeet tears
Smells like catpiss

>nothing to hide
yes. it will have the best compatibility for newer software, and hardware and be more secure for coming years than 7 will
>something to hide
maybe with the right software and research, or on an offline computer, or just not at all. windows 7 is probably fine. if you have windows 8, consider windows 7.

Then you're talking about wanting to have most of your RAM used as in cached, because otherwise all of your RAM would be constantly used and your comp would start swapping or some bullshit and everything starts to lag. Can we stop this shit meme please?
Whenever someone sees "uuh my Windows / Linux only uses 2 GiB" they don't actually see the cached part because task manager / system monitor hide the cached part / don't show it as used, so this whole "you want your programs to use as much RAM as possible" thing is bullshit.
You want your programs to be have a footprint as small as possible so that you can have many of them loaded in RAM at the same time being able to switch quickly between them.
I know it's just semantics in the end by what "used" means but it's still miseading.

>Should I install it?
Not yet, there's no point.

>Does it perform better?
At what exactly?
Anyway, no, most benchmarks don't show improvement.

>Is it worth it?
Not until they let you disable data collection.

10 uses more and it has higher RAM requirements.

>10 uses more and it has higher RAM requirements.
And rises after next update. Enjoy.

Which is another reason why I can't take this OS seriously.
It's like a new version every 6 months, a constant work in progress beta quality software.

After all these years they haven't even managed to make a single control panel, it's still a fucking mess with settings all over the place.

But hey, you get personalized ads.

Wait, are you talking about windows, or linux?

Now it applies to both, except if you use a superior distro like Ubuntu LTS or Debian.

It's funny because it's true.

Too tired to make this work.

so is it wise to just upgrade for the guaranteed ''free'' license before reverting back to 7? Will reverting back this way actually remove things, or does it simply go back to some form of windowsOLD folder written at the time of upgrade?

>Should I install it?
No
>Does it perform better?
No
>Is it worth it?
No

I might actually do this. Any chance this will go bad?

Windows 10 uses less memory and resources then Windows 7. It manages "free" resources better too.

install windows on another partition. log into linux afterwords and updated GRUB

Wrong and with the Anniversary update it's official you need more RAM:
zdnet.com/article/windows-10-anniversary-update-will-require-more-ram/

If you want to have proper support any hardware platform in the post-Skylake era.

Protip: Zen will be only properly supported on Windows 10.

>zdnet.com/article/windows-10-anniversary-update-will-require-more-ram/

>implying that you can't disable out of the extra job

Windows 7-fags remind me of the old Window 2000-fags back in the day.

Keep holding onto their OS despite no having support for new hardware.

5 rupees have been deposited in your loo

>subtle "bugs" with the graphics drivers
you mean the way it automatically updates to fucking faulty drivers after each time I downgrade to the working oem ones? I updated to checkout the Ubuntu thingy and also get the recent office 365 because no beamer templates. And to be fair I didn't event expect it to work on that 2011 laptop, I like the new task manager and my gitbash/mingw setup didn't break but damn does the os treat you like a moron while being one.

That depends OP.
1. Do you use Steam?
2. Do you prefer using Steam over Windows Store/Windows Live?

If the answer to both questions is yes, then you should not downgrade to Windows 10.
If the answer is no, then you should downgrade to Windows 10.

Will it have Onedrive placeholders?

Is there an ETA for Onedrive file versioning for all files?

(Anniversary Update)

>Should I install it?
No. Stick with whatever you're using as long as your favorite web browser works in it.
>Does it perform better?
In some cases it does. You're probably asking how well games run. I doubled my framerates in BO2, but got much worse performance in other titles, so it's pretty much like russian roulette.
>Is it worth it?
No. I had some compatibility problems. My keyboard had problems with 10, and I had to manually install a driver for my memory card reader.

>start installing
>downloading
>think it'll give me some prompt when it's done
>nope, literally just starts installing the second it finishes downloading, no options
>the cancel button disappears
it's still going right now
I feel violated

Install GNU/Linux.
Windows will only continue getting shittier.

windows 10 is ugly anyway. im thinking of moving to os x

Move to where MS copied all their shit? Seriously?

You fucking dumbass

windows 10 new dark mode is fucking sexy

>windows 10 is ugly anyway
I hate windows 10, but this is so false

>Windows 10 uses less memory
lmao. Even with the compressed memory placebo I hit swap on Windows 10 while Windows 7 doesn't break a sweat with the same workflow.

>resources
Yes, like the built-in antivirus scanner that can't be disabled permanently and that scans my computer every 3 hours. Very efficient!

It ain't false.
The UI has multiple personality disorder.
