Why doesnt this work?

I wanted to connect my Macbook Pro to my Projector, but given my projector doesnt have a HDMI port I decided to buy that cable. I have just tried connecting the two devices together, but theres no display and no detection of the cable. Any ideas why? Can I fix it?

Hahahaha you're so stupid.

>Why this copper cable don't magicaly convert my digital HDMI signal to VGA

You need to buy a mini display Port to vga adapter

...

What the fuck does this cable even do if it's not an active adapter, why does it exist

It's for tricking idiots to waste money

are you implying OP is an idiot?

It exists because idiots buy it.

VGA=analog
HDMI=digital

You need something like this, you idiot. See that huge thing on the vga side? This is where the magic happens.
Those straight vga-hdmi cables will never work because of this

Fucking retard

Sup Forums isn't the best place for autists

>implying Sup Forums is anything but autists

For what purpose does this cable even exist? Or is it a shop?

It doesn't. Look at the shadow below the VGA connector. It's Photoshopped

On eBay I once read at the desc of one of these things, that there are some HDMI ports that somehow carry analogue signals or can switch to them if you connect a VGA monitor to it using one of these $2 cables. They work OOB with these.

However, most of the HDMI ports don't support this.

OP try this

why can't I convert my sink water into gas for my car???????

>macbook pro

Buy a real computer, problem solved

I have seen several of them at goodwill.

You need an active adapter. Like this one, there on eBay.

Why is this picture posted so often today?

Ah hama you never let me down.
HD water.

Speaking of weird shit at goodwill, what the hell are these for?

Some audio equipment uses VGA to transfer multi-channel audio, i guess it could be some kind of cable that just rips all the channels into one dual channel one.

some old projectors (Panasonic or other jap shit) used the hdmi port to output both digital and analog, ironically those were hard to find now it's just there to rob non-tech savvy people

that's not VGA you nerd, that's a serial DB-9

>why does it exist

I doubt it does.

Just a troll picture to go with OP's troll post.

The pure white background didn't betray the use of photoshop?

I'm guessing to connect some kind of sensor or controller.

VGA = analog
HDMI = digital

You got chinked.

That is a cable that only works on 1% of devices.

It fucking does. They still sell this in Turkey. Appereantly, it can work on some devices that output analog from HDMI (HOW THE FUCK THEY DO THAT?) but nothing else.

>but the cable exists, so it MUST work!
I'm so glad my tech support days are finished.

>bonus: rca to VGA
>double bonus: expecting sound to go through op's cable

I had an over priced set of Logitech speakers that had a connector like this.

It may be serial port (I think?). 3.5mm is also used for serial port too (I seen some modems and recievers like this.) Probably serial cable.

Wow, Macfags can't even into google.

Read the sticky. Ask reddit.

For the same reason this doesn't, it's not an adapter it's just two different connectors wired to each other.

Forgot photo

>vga 9p to 3-5mm Stereo
>VGA 9p
>9p

That's a serial to stereo; looks like for data transfer for old PDA's or such. Not VGA

>Mac

Found your problem.

xD

>Macbook

I used to have a camera with a 3.5 jack as an output for audio/video. They shipped a 3.5jack to rca cables with it. I guess its the same but with vga.

This post is obviously designed to illustrate just how clueless Sup Forums is with all things Mac.
There are Help documents with both the Mac and the projector to deal with the connection.
Next we'll see if Sup Forums knows how to power a Mac on, since connecting a projector is too technical for them.

So much explanation in one image...

CMD-Shift-3
Since the first Mac ever.
Long before PrintScreen ever worked on a PC.

Look up the difference between Analog and Digital signals.

TI calculator

100% sure

it does exist, i've seen countless of them on auction sites

or premium one, more durable and with velocirotational density reducer if you feel rich

Some devices have an HDMI port that'll accept analogue VGA signals directly to save physical space.

My father sent me an SMS today asking if we have any HDMI to VGA adapters.

Dad, get the fuck off Sup Forums.

Second this. Old TiVos would use these to flip the channel on a satellite box.
