Why are we not funding this?

Taking down this stuff like old websites is like destroying a museum.

desu this makes me want to increase my digital footprint to piss people off

but how does destroying your data destroy the building? The power is still running to the building..

This is like emptying out the water in a swimming pool because you dont like how much space it takes up. The hole in the ground is still there if you dont bother filling it up. All that's going to happen is there will be some empty space on some hard drives that gets filled with new data

Are you a fucking retard? Just link to the video if you want us to watch this shit

But the computer uses the same amount of energy no matter how much data is stored on it.

Nobody cares what you think.

Not really, the disks get physically heavier and harder to spin when they get full of data.

Don't believe me? Try picking up a full laptop vs a brand new one.

Same

Same could be said for you.

That's hella childish.

This

A tripfags opinion is worth absolutely nothing because they never say anything of value.

kys

Thanks for the trip, now I can filter you

This seems like that Blackle shit.

where do you think we are?

Wouldn't the change in weight be negligible? Noticing a laptop getting heavier after putting data on it is probably a placebo.

Reminds me of back in elementary school when we were always told to save paper, as if it would help the environment at all and not just the school's expense account.

This sounds like a honeypot

Who gives a shit, the real change will come when porn conglomerates, youtube and facebook go down. They're the most redundant and the biggest cancer on the web.

>big initiative to save servers
>uses up massive servers itself just to accomplish this
LOL this backwards shit has got to end 2bh

A few years ago I heard that one in every three pages on the internet is porn. Probably bullshit, but I want to believe.

"Porn" in that statistic probably also includes any sort of "indecency" like people in bikinis

Anyone have any stats on how much data one person actually has? Cause I dont think that bitch has 40 odd gigs of old crap scattered around, let alone 40 gigs that she's cool with having deleted.

Power going to a building ≠ using power.

Same could be said for you. Anyway why are you getting this triggered by a tripcode anyway? Sup Forums isn't your personal sekrit treehouse club you know. Stop putting down others because you want to enforce a CoC nobody will ever agree with. You're as much of a worthless human being as that stupid tripfag, you're not above him.

Here, have another (You), on the house.

>expecting leftists or shit meant to pander to leftists not to be retarded
c'mon now.

those retards are against coal and nuclear power, but then if everything was solar and wind (let's face it, you can't slap a hydroelectric dam anywhere you wish) they would cry about the high prices and intermittent electricity supply.

there's no appeasing those retards. children in adults' bodies.

well they aren't actually powered by nuclear plants, probably mostly powered by coal and natural gas

My laptop does.

I also notice that charged batteries are heavier.

> 25
> Didn't realize that until now
...

When did I say that?

You know, if you're going to pretend to be a fresh off the boat redditor, you should try subtly next time.

Would be insignificant. Start some useless webservice that takes up a bunch of space or host your own expensive server dedicated to archiving the internet as uncompressed media, it would be much more effective than increasing your digital footprint

He's talking about himself, autist.

You're fucking stupid kid

are you a woman?

>Implying pages is a valid unit of measurement in this context

I didn't realize the school didn't give a fuck about the planet until you said it. Hence, I'm a moron.

Surprisingly, no.

Problem: Too many websites people are signed up for.
Solution: Another website for people to sign up for.

Huh?

And that's assuming the "problem" isn't just a bunch of bullshit they pulled out of their asses to begin with.

Or that "deleting" any of those accounts actually deletes any of the data.

Or that simply storing the data actually consumes energy. (Do they think these sites store user data all in volatile RAM? Reading and writing data from a hard drive is what uses energy, not simply storing it. And if so many accounts are forgotten and unused as they claim, then it's not being written to or read as often.)

This is retarded. The average person uses very little cloud storage in the grand scheme of things, and large files are often duplicates of copyrighted works which can be deduped on the server side. The big users of cloud storage know EXACTLY how much data they have in the cloud because they're paying for it every month.

But have you tested the laptop with a weight scale to make sure your findings were objective?

I feel the same, these "carbon footprint" fags get on my nerves sometimes. If they really care about the environment so damn much, then they would be better off shutting up and leaving me alone, and go band together and buy some ships and clean up the trash floating in the oceans or something. My useless FriendFaceTwitBookSpaceInstaLink accounts don't mean shit, and bitching about it just makes them annoying.

Maybe we should make a site that, for every account they delete, we create three more and fill them with random data.

Why would we fund it?

But I largely agree. With the cost of storage being what it is it's far more responsible to have your own storage.
I do have Flickr, Mediafire and Google accounts but I use them for specific purposes.
Flickr, to host my photos for my website, use their traffic not mine (as I host my website from home).
Mediafire, sharing files with people.
Google (Drive), storing my porn and basically dropping stuff that could have been questionable under copyright when crossing borders.

just move stuff to tape. not much energy sitting in a big warehouse

>rotational velocidensity

It's a real thing. A rotating disk has rotational energy and Einstein showed that E=MC^2 which means energy is also mass so the laptop will be heavier.
