hey Sup Forums, just got this bad boy from the """"""garbage"""""" bin at work >1920x1440@73hz >1600x1200@87hz >flat screen >16.7m color support pretty pumped to get this thing running, but the only problem is finding something that will actually be able get the maximum resolution signal to it. Every hdmi/dvi to vga adapter I find seems to have a maximum resolution of 1920x200@60hz. What fucking gives? and if I cant have 1920x1440@73 I'll settle for 1600x1200@87hz or even 85hz
how do you guys use CRT monitors in the digital age?
Well there's one in my back yard I'm waiting to throw away
Cooper Morales
I don't
William Wright
lol your job tricked you into hauling away their garbage for them
Adrian Williams
why did you put too many quotation marks around the word "garbage"?
Evan Lewis
Because it's full of perfectly good food and pentium 4s
Dylan Carter
because often times there's stuff worth taking
for instance, there were once a stack of Dell Optiplex desktops with i7s and only bad motherboards. Would cost only $50 to fix it entirely. There's also sometimes old xeon powered servers that'd function perfectly fine at home but aren't worth the effort to resell after being replaced with upgrades
Kevin Jenkins
I've rarely found anything better than Netburst era garbage. Best thing I found was a single E5520 DL360 G6.
Gabriel Jackson
Good job OP, you're encumbering yourself with an oversize paperweight.
Jaxon Davis
protip: just because stuff that's valuable to you is in the garbage doesn't mean it's no longer "the garbage".
pajeets dig through dumps all the time looking for scrap metal; nobody puts quotations around it. it's still garbage. no sarcasm necessary (and as an aside, one set of quotation marks is enough)

>how do you guys use CRT monitors in the digital age? I send them to be "recycled" in some Indian/Chinese landfill where they can help poison some mud people. I like to think i am helping against over population.

you need a bigger desk 2bh
Bentley Brown
What kind of controller is that?
Lucas Moore
*The rectangular one, not the Xbox controller, obviously.
Justin Allen
Looks like a master system controller.
Kevin Nelson
I mean, sure I know it's not, but it has the similar shitty design console controllers had back then.
Aiden Ortiz
It's a Elecom Famicom-style USB controller that I bought in Japan ages ago
Jaxon Wood
>Elecom Famicom-style USB controller Thanks, looks pretty neat desu
Zachary Adams
do you use any active converters?
Matthew Ross
seconding OP's question.
I've got an old but good CRT (130 kHz horizontal bandwidth) and apparently GPUs quit having DACs a few years ago.
How good are DP -> VGA dongles?
Jeremiah Ward
>Pentium 4s It IS garbage
Oliver Gray
I don't really know how good they are, I use two with a nvs 295 and two shitty 1280x1024 monitors and they seem perfect for what they're doing
John Hill
Yours truly, guy digging through a trash can for obsoleted tech and posting about it on Sup Forums

2048x1536 @70hz For desktop 800x600 @172hz For CS
Bentley Reed
172hz
I wish I still had my old CRT.
I had to replace it when one day I turned it on and the whole screen was purple, squished, and missing most visual information. Then it went boom.
Carter Phillips
I'd also like to know. The most similar that I can find is Buffalo's USB Famicom controller.
Ryder Perry
>What fucking gives? You're using an active converter. A lot of GPUs no longer support pure analog output.
>how do you guys use CRT monitors in the digital age? I use them for gaymes, of course. For everything else LCD and LED are better.
Jose Gonzalez
>2048x1536 @70hz For desktop
why would you do this to yourself? are your eyes incapable of perceiving flicker, and isn't text blurry as shit when the pixels are smaller than individual phosphor triads?
Hudson Gray
2048x1536 is native for a lot of higher end CRTs, so no. Also if you can see flicker at 70Hz, I pity you.
Andrew Perez
I have a tiny one with a ps2 and a hdd strapped to it.
Owen Reed
>FALLING FOR THE CRT MEME >FALLING FOR THE CRT MEME >FALLING FOR THE CRT MEME >FALLING FOR THE CRT MEME >FALLING FOR THE CRT MEME
Liam Brooks
2048x1536 is the max for a lot of CRTs, but if you look at the dot/aperture pitch, you very seldom see anything finer than 0.22 mm, which equates to something like 1800x1300 on a 20" viewable display.
And yeah, 70 Hz is readily visible to me on an up-close CRT, and anything below 100 Hz will give me eyestrain by the end of the day at most. Even 120 Hz strobing on 30"+ LCD monitors kills me, but at least the duty cycle for those can usually be adjusted.
Austin Cooper
Just use the adapter who gives a fuck what it's rated for
Jaxon Martinez
>not having a native VGA port on your system
Carson Robinson
I don't understand the meme >high resolution >high refresh rates >perfect scaling >no latency >fantastic contrast where's the meme? maybe someday I'll shell out for a 980ti which has dvi-i, but by the time they're cheap enough to warrant the upgrade they'll all be too used and not worth it >tfw I'm going to have to leave this relegated to my old thinkpad and might not be able to play new games on it shame
Jordan Davis
>not having a native VGA port on your system
Easton Garcia
Modern IPS looks better than the most high end crt can hope to look.
and while i can slightly feel the latency of an led monitor over crt the difference is minimal and will have practically no effect even in autistic games LIKE QUAKE.
the only reason i have a crt is to play old games that look like ass at high resolutions.
Grayson Cox
meh, color accuracy aside, IPS has shit black levels compared to other panels let alone CRT, and high refresh rates are always a bonus I'd rather play nudoom at 1600x1200@85hz with perfect blacks on the CRT than 2560x1440@60hz with a wider color gamut and bright blacks
Connor Cruz
explain the perfect blacks maymay to me
because every fucking crt ive used has always had crt glow.
hell my fucking sony led tv in my livingroom has a deeper black level than the sony trinitron i use for retro gaming
Josiah Roberts
do you have a plasma tv? that might be why honestly the horrific blacks on almost any screen I look at make me want to vomit. I have an amoled phone so the difference is clear to me. anything even remotely decent I could fawn over, and the IPS meme is one of the worst that's plagued the industry recently when VA is better in almost every way, especially in blacks
in general I want a CRT for gaming because my current IPS monitor has shit black levels and 60hz
Connor Bell
nope its led.
To be honest though it has the deepest black level ive ever seen an led have. It is a fairly high end tv, cost me 750$ last year for 1080p
Maybe every crt ive had is shit or something, or maybe the one im using is just wearing out considering it was manufactured in 1996
Owen Davis
gotta love them CRTs
the picture and screen remains unscathed even when they've been trashed and sitting in some filthy garage for 14 years
Mason Moore
literally national geographic ran a whole story on you dump foragers, pajeet! you should be flattered! i see you found some food in this picture :)
It's not garbage until it's literally in the garbage .
Camden Bennett
"the garbage bin at work" is literally in the garbage. if you're trying to make a different point, learn more words, like "dump" or "landfill".
honestly i would have expected that these words would come up sooner in an indian english language class. you people seem to need it sooner than you need words like "toilet" and "hygiene"
Austin Adams
I at least applaud you for giving source on the image.
Chase Reed
you can use these crt boxes but I don't know if it apply to much input lag.
Landon Morgan
Lol
Julian Flores
why would i deprive a pajeet of his moment in the spotlight? some good white journalists went into OP's home and documented his life, we might as well see it.
Nolan Davis
Troll thread
Jeremiah Moore
That's really nice, not really something that I would use myself, there are way better CRTs but it's something if you can't find better.
>how do you guys use CRT monitors in the digital age? With old computers and consoles.
