Check each part individually. I'd start with the power supply.

this

OP here. Just figured it out. I plugged a random 8pin into my CPU power instead of the one marked "CPU" by the PSU.

Listen for beeps to troubleshoot your problem

>do all of that
>it works
>half of the memory is not detected
Fuck my life.

Turned out it was not seated properly, even though it looked like it was. Motherboard only had retention clips on one side of the module so you couldn't tell from them securing the module in place whether it was there or not.

my greatest fear t-b-h

Its not that bad honestly. It's rare that it would be more than 1 part that's faulty.

how, don't they have a certain shape to fit only in the appropriate spot?

>>spend an hour carefully putting together a new rig
>>moment of truth
>>press POWER ON
>blow out breaker
Guess it was a bad idea to split 2 case fans on 1 system fan on the board...then did another 2 so i had 4. our breakers suck forced to use molex now...still idling 35 c...should of just gotten a 4690 k.

Worst part is you hyped yourself for the new rig.
It totally sucks if you gotta RMA a part and have to wait a week at least.

>mfw it was all because of a bad molex to sata power adapter
drove me fucking nuts trying to figure that one out

>reformat computer
>try to reinstall windows
>18 hours later of non-stop reinstallations I finally have a version of windows that 'just werks'

>wish I could install linux instead, but muh gamses

>flip the switch
>hit mobo power
>absolutely nothing happens
Turns out the mobo requires the power supply be on for 60seconds before it will power up.

>flip the switch
>wait a few seconds
>turn mobo switch on
>nothing happens
Turned out I need to hit the mobo switch within milliseconds of turning the psu on.

That is one shit ass mobo

2 different mobo. First was Foxconn years ago and the next is Asus, my current rig.

>i7 4790k

>new rig

>POWER ON
>yiisss everything looks ok
>5 minutes into windows, suddenly graphic artifacts, graphic artifacts everywhere
>try GPU in other pc, same shit
>yfw gpu is DOA

was a sapphire r9 290, at least the RMA took just one week

but hell does it suck if you build a new rig and something is DOA

Are you using the stock fan cooler?

what's "DOA"?

Dab on arrival

nope meme cooler 212 evo. idle is at 37-40c mey not have it sitting right. though i'm debating to just buy a better cooler. i really don't like it much. i hear the H7 is better for the same price.

I may just have a bad chip.

dab it with what?

Nah. I had a pcie cable between my psu and eax for years without realising.

check all of your connections

I have the 212 Evo and 4690k. What exactly is hot as fuck to you? Your idle temps seem fine.

for me its always

>press power button
>nothing happens
>didnt connect the case's power/reset switch to the mobo

>when you use too much thermal paste on your heatsink

>when your radiator starts up for the first time

>when nothing happens but the mobo beeps

all of these things give me nightmares

>new rig
>it won't POST
>troubleshoot with every single major part
>unplug front USB
>it POST

Use google dumbass we aren't going to spoon feed you.

I did this yesterday.

Mobo has three usb sockets, two are blue and one is white.
I need all three and plugged something into the white one, it had all the right pins and fit well.
Then it wouldn't post until I took it out, I don't think it's a usb socket.

>put together some pc parts
>press power button
>nada
>turn on psu
>it werks

Double check connections.
When shit doesn't turn on it is actively preventing itself from turning on to protect itself.
Not turning on is okay.

Turning on and then not posting is when you worry

anyone got some links to buy good pwm fan hubs ?

>after 1hour of suffering with the 212 Evo cooler
Yea i know that feel if i find something wrong with it i'm buying a better one.

>after 1 hour of putting together a new rig
>press power button
>doesn't turn on but I can hear a winding down sound

After another hour of trying to figure out what was happening, I unplugged the connectors for COM 1 and 2 and it booted up again

I felt like a dumbass.

This was in 2008. I haven't tried fixing it or building a new PC since.

Pretty happy with the attempt, given it was my first go. Will be building a new rig soon.

Hey dad.

Unless to buy the Chinkpower 400W, power supplies all have universal voltage the days with no manual switch.

>not testing your parts outside the case before putting everything together
Rookie mistake my man

Diablotek

First time I built and computer and did that, I realized I hadn't turned the PSU on.

After I flipped the switch, everything worked great. 10/10 feeling.

Accidentally put POWERSW in HDDLED.

Happened with a build I did earlier in the year. For whatever reason, taking off the cooler and reseating the CPU fixed it.

>buy new gpu to upgrade pc
>slap it in, boot pc
>no boot
>take gpu out, boot pc again
>no boot
>take every ram stick out, blow them and their sockets like NES cartridges
>slap everything back in, boot pc
>it boots, no problem afterward.

>and again and again and again
