I'm using these for backups.

Yeah, so dead it's still being produced for nearly 10 years, and we even got a new 4K format now, wow, how can everyone on earth be so stupid and not realize they are not making money?
I don't know what's wrong with memesters but I never understood this personal quest against optical media? If it bothers you so much, to the point you deny reality, why don't you make such a fuss about LTO tapes, which is still being developed? Or MO disks? Or UDO? I guess you didn't have contact with those. Is this all a childhood trauma or something?
SSDs
I've been using a MiniDisc Walkman since my Sansa Clip + died. I literally can't tell the difference between MiniDisc audio (recorded via optical input using a Type-S deck) and 320Kbps mp3

>Yeah, so dead it's still being produced for nearly 10 years
Early years: too expensive
Latter years: I rather stream
You do realize that DOA means "dead on arrival" right?
>arriving for 10 years
...
> tfw the beta max of the 21st century
>tfw third world country
>only way to get 4k without waiting literally days on a download is Blu-ray
YOU DEAD ON ARRIVAL. FUCK YOU.
Except it's not. Bluray was the betamax is every respect except that it won.
Problem was that HD DVD kept being a little shit and holding on as long as possible, delaying market acceptance of either standard enough that streaming took over and the "next gen" optical format was, as OP put it, DOA.
Had HD DVD just given up years ago, Bluray would have had a few good years to make some money.
All-in-all, kind of worked out in all our favors.
What country?

kek .. mac niggers are the worst
Streaming is garbage, though. No one is spending the resources to stream you 40Mbit/s video like you can get off of a Blu-ray.
the only company that was really pushing hd dvd was microsoft. blu ray was a sony thing and they held on tight to their dumb external hd dvd drives for about a year before they gave up.
Also SEGA Saturn. Hell, just SEGA in general.
Australia
>who remembers when them keys got leaked
Who are you quoting?
>faster than the R9-480 in every test
Still got my King Kong HDDVD copy lel
Except Betamax had more practical uses than HD-DVD. Many news stations still used Betamax for filming coverage because it had higher quality than VHS.

You're not bright are you
is streaming quality on par with blu ray quality yet?
NOPE
...
You're a fucking moron
Are you implying 10mbit/s 8k looks even remotely as good as 40mbit/s 1080p?
...
What bitrate does that even stream at?
I can see some pretty bad color banding in that image.
Xbox 360 used dvd dl iirc. Same disc as dvd hd. So it did serve a purpose for a while.
Blu-ray wont die as long as consoles exist.
This I still haven't bought a blueray yet, very few great movies anyway
...
For video Blu ray is dead.
But for Backup is very interesting, buy a Styrofoam box, opaque black dvd case, silica bags and Blu ray HTL.
I'm still using Blu-ray for backups

I would kill for one of these back in my young days
You can't tell the difference cause you use the word literally
Well, that's exactly what he said.
Meme harder memester.
The age before the dawn of the humble USB flash drive was a dark one brother.
I'd have boxes of these (the 2. Something ones), compress my stuff and split the zip files in many 2MB parts so I could have everything saved.
My newborn.
What about the mega drive, also didn't the Saturn do well in Japan compared to the 64
Get CABLE with iinet ypu fucking poor person
Darwin hard at work
i bet you think netflix """hd""" streaming is just as good as bluray too, huh faggot?
There are 40Mb/s videos on the YouTube. I think they don't limit the bit-rate for 1440p+ videos.
This video runs at 40Mbit/s at 1440p@60fps in its more intense parts:

There, fixed it for you
I used to use an iPod Shuffle back in summer '08. I wish I knew where it was because I want to use it again.
How are railroads DOA? It's what made the industrial age possible.
Or is there an optical illusion I'm not seeing?
Nope, as it stands blu rays are the place to go if you want to assure the absolute best quality.
Slaughterhouses.
>How are railroads DOA? It's what made the industrial age possible.
it's a bad Sup Forums tier joke, see pic for explanation
it's from a science fiction movie
Streaming from your NAS/HTPC/old laptop with a fuckton of external drives plugged in.
noice
do you get 5.1 dts with that too?
>There are 40Mb/s videos on the YouTube. I think they don't limit the bit-rate for 1440p+ videos.
Implying any youtube video comes close to 4k blu-rays, even 1080p youtube sucks complete ballsack compared to 1080p quality of a blu-ray.
Also enjoy your 2 channel while ill be enjoying my DTS-HD MA
>i have upscaled this video to 1440p
thanks yify
That's not HD DVD.
And where do you think all your video rips come from ?
Ah... fuck I didn't make it out, time for my morning coffee.

t. spends his money on blu-ray discs

To this day, I'm surprised that BluRay won the HD optical disc format war.
It seemed like a no-brainer to me that people would want to upgrade their DVD Player to an HD-DVD Player just because it was a name that they were familiar with, even though I knew even back then that BluRay was a superior format.
I bought a HD-DVD player just before a fire sale as my DVD player died, then got all of the HD-DVDs for $1.00 each.
