Yes, we are far for ready for VR, it's just a big hype, try a VR game, they all suck.

Yes, and I'm glad it died. The amount of hype and push it got from major players in the tech industry is just great, anyone with half a brain knew it was doomed to fail.

Yup.

I understand that people get sick sitting stationary, but all the extra shit they added, like hand controllers, made it into one helluva an overpriced gimmick. It's basically super expensive waggling.

The only reason I bought a VR headset was to play Fallout 4 more immersed with keyboard and mouse.

In it's current incarnation, yes, its useless.

We will see some form if VR being massively popular in the next 100 years though

I still think it would be very cool to play tradiotional KB+M games in a headset for extra immersion.

The rest of the bullshit though, like roomscale, motion controls etc can get fugged.

Yes. And thank God. I like my vydia like I like my whiskey, neat and without gimmicks.

And how did that work? Genuinely curious.

VR isn't DOA, cardboard still has future I hope. This oculus rift, vive is really overpriced, but cardboard is so cheap and doesn't require a computer. It's really good to watch a horror movie with it, but my phone overheats as fuck

Vive get's sold out at the local retail pretty quickly. They can't keep up with the demand, so I'm not sure what you guys are on about.

Hell, I want to get one just to FPV a drone with VR.
Only wish I could control the drone with my dual joystick setup. Probably can too, but it'll take a lot of time to configure/make

It has applications far beyond video games. It's going to be huge.

It was great, only configured it to move the "head" slightly and still aimed with the mouse, the only reason why I could see those VR headsets to be used. Until at least they manage to make better devices to interface with the games then those stupid hand thigns.

Please no.
I'm going to buy a vive in a week, so naturally the price will drop instantly after that (Like the fucking CEO flat out admitted it would).
Hopefully that'll boost VR.
All the things I have in mind to make for it though all need the vive's controllers. Either that or a fucking good kinect.
Anyway, rift or PSVR just won't cut it for what I'm after, which is sad, really...

You realize how far we've come in three years?
In four mobile devices will top our current best machines, people will have re-learnt how to optimize, and desktops will have the 50x performance increase we'll need to get 16k panels, giving us 6k virtual screens.
I still see the headsets as dev kits.

Not with that resolution per eye famalam

Don't give a shit about headsets but I want this to become a thing:
vimeo.com/89461943

Works just as well on a monitor, particularly in portrait mode.

In a sense, yes.
It's not true VR, it's casual "VR", and Google's gonna be pushing it to be the next big thing on Android.

True VR cannot be accomplished without digitizing the mind OR, via some magical way, just wear a set of glasses for visuals, and recognize full body movement without external assistance.

My vive has been picking up dust for a while, I only boot it up for the occasional interesting H3VR update.

I've wasted about 200 dollars or so on what amount to short games made on a shoestring budget. A few cool things here and there but none are games I'd be willing to play regularly.

There aren't any games I am particularly excited about aside from perhaps budget cuts because they really nailed down the mechanics right in the demo.

Putting the damned thing on is a commitment every time, my neck gets sore after an hour or so of use especially if you are looking at one location for a long time in modbox or tiltbrush.

Ergonomics is the biggest turn off. Vive is too front heavy and the strap system is a major dick in the ass. If you get a decent VR cover it gets comfier to wear with less slippage as you can then tighten it more without imprints on your face or discomfort.

Looking down still sucks though and snapping your head quickly still causes the HMD to wobble a bit. Besides a few hiccups the tracking system is fucking immaculate, the only really good aspect about the HTC Vive.

FoV is acceptable, the pixels per degree needs to be higher it is barely tolerable.

But what is in dire need of improvement is the weight and ergonomics, they need a revised model that weighs a lot less than what they are currently offering with a substantially better rigid mounting system.

PSVR seems to have a far better ergonomic design, So many times I wanted to just flip the damned display up like a welding mask. I'd prefer that a hundred times over a shitty camera that is convenient at times but not sufficiently accurate to do more intricate things so I have to take the fucking thing off anyway.

I thought the only use for these atm is porn

>a shitty camera that is convenient at times

Intel's gotchu senpai, just bolt this unsettling dildo to the front of it

...

cool, too bad I already have leap motion mounted at the moment. It was pretty cheap too around $30 good enough to slap some titties.

>My vive has been picking up dust for a while
Me too, i spent a similar amount of money on it but there just isn't any truly deep and immersive content out right now that you want to play for more than half an hour. I basically pick it up once every week or two for maybe an hour and always get tired of it and play some normal games instead. Even hover junkers, arguably one of the more finished and content-rich games for the Vive, feels like a tech demo and gets boring after a few matches. The solus project was pretty good and the atmosphere was really well done but again after a couple of hours it's the same mechanics and gets boring. I wish Valve would hurry up and release Portal 3 VR since we all know that's going to be the system seller - unfortunately they always take ages to release games, even if they're always very good when they finally do come out.

I have to say though, even if Oculus did fuck up big time on the whole exclusives issue, I do appreciate them trying to get development off the ground and to get out of this vicious circle of devs not wanting to invest the big bucks til there's a large userbase to get their return, and customers not wanting to jump onto the platform until there's decent quality content. I think they seriously mishandled things but really it's a problem for VR and until Valve or Oculus start releasing really good, 20+ hour, truly immersive and content-rich games instead of wave shooters and cockpit sims, then we're really not going to see much change.

I do have hope for the system though and I bought mine for other reasons as well as gaming (hoping to get into architectural visualization and stuff using VR) so it's been worth the investment, however I don't see it really "taking off" until theres a gen2 with better resolution and ergonomics, and a good selection of AAA launch content to get your average joe in gamestop to think "what the hell" and put down a few hundred bucks to see what all the fuss is about.

I bought a VR headset for my phone, but my phone doesn't have a gyroscope.

I can't even find any good free VR apps or VR porn to watch.

/gif/ has vr porn threads sometimes, it's pretty neat the first time using on whirligig for vive but i don't know how well it would work with cardboard.

It's literally a repeat of when 3D movies became big when they would make everything use it in an obnoxious way.
>hands flying at screen
>arrows that shoot toward camera for no reason
etc

It was overhyped, bad/no marketing, greedy companies who want investor's money more than customer's money etc. Now it's pretty hard to get people hyped with it when it's actually ready to be used by regular people, so you will probably hear nothing for a long while until someone digs it out again in a few years, say 5-10. It's annoying, but some people got pretty rich with that strategy, so it will happen again and again with all kinds of emerging technologies.

The VR still need more development before it could become mainstream.

That is is why I'm preparing to learn to make VR games or movies in the future.

Playstation VR might be able to save it
youtube.com/watch?v=mskYTgaMAkc

They took too long to get it to market, hyped the shit out of it, and then went WAY over their estimated market prices. Then Facebook spoiled everything by trying to be assholes like everyone knew would happen when they bought Oculus. Even though they relented in the end, the damage was done, no one trusts Oculus anymore and Vive is prohibitively expensive. It's simply a waiting game now while we wait for the technology to mature and for prices to come down to sane levels. Sony's VR solution might help things along, I have a few friends who are hyped as fuck for Sony VR, all of them drooling Kojima fanboys who can't wait for his new PS4 VR title.

>idolcancer will save vr
What times we live in.

I wish there was a DOA vr game desu

I'm waiting for the japanese to start creating games that aren't tech demos or other low quality shit.

That and for headsets to drop to 200~300 bux
I might try RiftCat when I get a phone that supports it.

200 Xbox live marketplace points or whatever the fuck they're called these days have been deposited into your account, Tyrone

I lost it at the apeshit clown in the background

wearing 3d glasses was annoying, so yes considering these are more heavey. my lg ultrawide monitor works fine for gayming.

Are you mad because you bought a VR headset thinking it was better than it actually was and now you justify it by shitting on everyone who says otherwise?
I found the heatset pretty good for 3D gayming, but VR is far for ready, deal with it.

*heavy

I still can't understand how people enjoy this

Don't worry, the Japs are all over this VR shit

It's coming
And so will you

All those that like VR are fucking autists
All those that hate VR are fucking autistic for not wanting to change
All those in this thread are fucking autism

t. Hans Asperger

This faceless cheering crowd reminded me of Black Mirror episode with nigga.
And btw
>animu grills
>not Live2D

>VR porn to watch.
cam4.com

Not at all. I spent quite a bit of the weekend in VR. Friends over to enjoy it too. 1 ordered a Rift once he got home. Far from dead. Unless you are a kid..which is the majority of Sup Forums.

I own have a Vive a Rift and a Gear..fun pieces of tech if you can afford em. I can't wait for gen 2 and 3 to come around.

you bet your ass

>LOOKIE HERE, we built a TRUE virtual reality! wanna strap screens to your face for hours on end? great! a whole new world awaits!
>...
>wait guys where are you going
>pls don't dismiss us so soon
>try Vii Sports VR bowling first, it's only $79,99 on steam
>the future sucks D:

Dead On Anal?

are you sure you are not overcompensating for something?

>fun pieces of tech
a vibrating fleshlight is a fun piece of tech too
that doesn't mean owning one (or three) of them isn't pathetic

>buh I can afford it
bro, if I told you about all the stuff I could buy and all the reasons why I don't, you'd kill yourself before I'm done

See

>VR movies

About as practical as a VR book.

>Fallout 4

Its true dude, the only fun kind of vr is the gear vr and google cardboard.

Don't get a VR headset you mong, it's a waste of money.

>cardboard still has future
Nigga, that shit sucks. Cellphones have no power for VR and the latency is huge

And anyone saying VR is dead surely never tried it. It's mind boggling.
And people keep saying the VR games suck... Fuck... have you tried playing Alien Isolation in VR? Many of the best games for VR are not even VR native games.

Why is owning a sex toy pathetic again?

>Vive a Rift
May I ask why would anyone buy 2 headsets?

More like the books with sound

americans still see sex as dirty and sinful. it's deeply ingrained in their retarded psyche.

Shit... I didn't know it was that bad there. Now that's fucking pathetic.

Unless they get cheaper, yes.

Its a very small niche, but it'll eventually grow. Looking at the current VR software on Steam I think theres a serious issue thats bound to hurt the industry's adoption. So many poorly designed and coded gimmick games selling for top dollar just because they're VR. Exactly the same situation we saw with Apple's App store. Hundreds of shitty programs popping up on the market over night by every unscrupulous cunt trying to make a buck. Right now its more like a spoonful of wine in a barrel of sewage than the reverse.

Sony's headset despite being powered by woefully lackluster hardware is probably the only thing that'll really save VR for gaming. Theres tons of use in the professional realm, and in media consumption, but an over priced gimmick App market isn't going to make VR a staple of computing.

American media was the whole reason that nipples in art and media were censored out or removed all together. Singlehandedly destroyed mans natural beautry in favour of sexualizing the inferior gender

Wtf does your post even mean? So owning a Rift or a Vvie is pathetic? Are fucking serious?

Dude, I make good money and have plenty available to blow on shit that I am curious about. These won't be the last such purchases.

I am not some kid who relies on their parents for shit. I make close to 6 figures and have 0 debt. a few hundred dollars does not affect my life one iota. Besides. I actually have a use for them.

Trust me, your stories of purchases you past on mean shit to me. I can make the same statements and bore the fuck out of you too.

>all these retards thinking VR will die

VR is the future as long as the porn industry supports it with content and the smartphone industry supports it with technology

I got the Vive for a deal from a friend who could not handle the motion sickness..weak little bitch, and the Rift I got for sims, which I use it for heavily.

DCS on the Rift is fucking amazing.

The GearVR was free with my phone.

Owning a fleshlight is more closely associated with virginity than sex.

Why didn't you use the Vive for everything?

Americans also give virginity a bad connotation?

I'm thinking more line of VR 3D movie where you can watch the scenes at diffirent angles and feeling like you are in the movie.

The Rift has ATW which DCS really benefits from. I do a ton of flying and driving sims so room scale was not my priority. Also, Rift is lighter and easier to wear for hours at a time which I do. Makes it easier to swing head around when looking around in cockpit for enemies.

>can't wait for gen 2 and 3
2nd gen when?

I don't know but hopefully at end of 2017 or by mid 2018.
All they need to focus on HW wise is lighter sets, and increased pixel density and FOV which for helmeted sim type games is actually fine now. I see as much for the most part as a pilot does wearing a helmet currently.

But lighter headsets and increased pixel density are what I am mainly wanting now. FOV a bit wider and taller would be awesome as well of course but not critical.

Of course good content as well is needed as it is for all platforms regardless of the display delivery system.

And hey, the porn is freakin awesome. Was odd to show some of that to my friends too..but they wanted to see it. One of the chicks was blown away by the porn and that surprised me. Shit I got the feeling she wants one just for the porn now..lol.

Thanks for the info brah.

No prob man. Glad to offer up some info if usable.

The amount of shilling on this thread is unbelievable, get a grip on reality.

There are health risks associated with VR use that the cartel blocks on a mainstream level, this is proven medically

Vergence–accommodation conflicts hinder visual performance and cause visual fatigue

jov.arvojournals.org/article.aspx?articleid=2122611

worst post ever "I earn six figures etc." pathetic

*
here's another paper for your future lawsuit

Neurons in the posterior interposed nucleus of the cerebellum related to vergence and accommodation. I. Steady-state characteristics

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9497407

Awesome man. Thanks for these. No reason not to be aware of potential issues. I will read for sure. Knowledge is power after all. But also removes some plausible deniability of awareness for possible issues. Oh well, I will keep this to myself if I ever need to sue.

Doesn't change the fact that the shit is still pretty damn cool...lol

I just bought an RX470, probably ok for 90% of the content out right now and also upcoming content, considering PSVR specs. Honestly though, I feel like PSVR is going to be a huge disaster. Just look at the motion sickness from RE7.

I'm really hoping for "retina" displays, wider FOV, lighter (cordless is a pipe dream, but I want it), and also eyetracking. Pooled memory (CF 470s FTW) and foveated rendering on the software side.

All this for fucking cheap

Have fun ruining your eyes even more, loser consumerist cuckolds.

I think you will be fine with that GPU. I was running mine on a 770GTX before my 1080 arrived and I was surprised that it ran a bunch of shit without issue. I seriously expected nothing to run on it and had just hoped a vid would play. Was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully you will be tool.

I too hope for all you listed to show up in next gen's..and cheaper as well. I know there are some Asian males working their ass off to achieve some of those at least currently.

I'd buy if there were more porn for them desu

Will do Mr. Freelifer. Now you can go back to dumpster diving.

I have over 200gigs of VR porn. And more being made every day. Seems you are not too good with the Google-Fu.

>Black Mirror episode with nigga
Don't remind me you baka

Looks like I got some google-fuing to do

The hype has certainly died down

Hell just search VR on tpb , put a check in 'porn' box and you will get a shitload.

Hype always dies down for everything. It is the nature of hype.

This wave of VR was destined to suffer the same fate at the first wave when it started making the same mistakes. Look up what happened with the VFX-1, CyberMaxx, and other big headsets back in the 90's.

The biggest mistake was abandoning the $300 sweet spot of goodnuff pricing.

VR is not dead, it was never alive. What we are seeing now is vr pre birth.

Horseshit. The latency is just fine. Cardboard with a good screen is fucking great for playing all my PC games.

GTA 5 with cardboard is great, honestly don't care about any of the expensive headsets.

Jesus, this thread is full of Sup Forums. There are far more compelling applications for VR outside of videogames. Way to out yourselves as small minded.

RX 470 is not VR certified or capable.

Then try one and try to go back.

VR game development is inteded for corporate applications hence why NVDIA stock went through the roof

VR isn't meant for extended use on humans for entertainment, calling others small minded is just circular reasoning

donate your eyeballs to research, shill more nvidia fags how's your stock options have some myself

I can't even take your argument seriously when you're posting an example of AR. Do you have any idea what you're talking about?

You an AMD marketer or something? It gets a 6 on the SteamVR test. The 480 gets a 6.6.

It's supposed to die down at some point, not before things really get going.

Am I the only one who would rather want to chill with one of these on with some sweet music and a 3d visualizer like you are on drugs? Or have a new way of organizing documents/ information on a virtual whiteboard/monitors/floating objects? Having realistic teaching software that shows you e.g. How to cook/ knit/ solder etc...
I see the most benefits in these categories

Of course porn and games are neat, but there already is sufficient stuff for wiggling that stick in your hands

AR, VR and MR have all the same function: optimize the visualization of big data presented, as all data is currently visualized by computer in the expansion of the Internet of Things, big data involves difficulties in extracting data followed by its own perception and cognition, which is currently time-consuming and often incorrectly implemented.

Current human usage on VR isn't healthy on a visual level during extended periods of time and it just enters the mainframe of a modern tendency towards Industry 4.0 which is very real. All visualization methods have pros and cons, essentially understand the issues related to human perception and limited cognition to be translated for machines or other uses.

It's all in the context of improving the methodology of visualizing data in understanding the fundamental cognitive psychological tenets and natural interaction implementation of virtualized objects. The blind spots are very real and recognition time need to be improved before taking a step towards wireless solutions and battery life which all enter the framework of developing VR for a corporate use but isn't as profitable as it is entertaining for the end user.

They have lenses you fucking silly willy.
