Is SSD a meme?
Should I replace my malfunctioning HD with a SanDisk Plus SSD?

You won't regret it. Just did another SSD replacement for a customer today and they were stoked.

SSD's are some of the best things to happen to computers. Dual-booting is nice as fuck now because booting is almost instant.
And yes you should replace it.
>Is SSD a meme?
Shouldn't this be in the stupid questions thread?
Cause that is a really fucking stupid question.
Buy an SSD for programs and your OS and HDD for like movies and photos and other things you don't need quick access to.
>should i swap a dying part for one that potentially lasts longer, is almost 3 times as fast, uses less power, and makes no noise?
No, stomp on your hard drive a few times and put it back into your laptop
Don't listen to these shmendriks. Faster, more efficient, more reliable, and lighter technology is just a meme. Remember to buy Western Digital, goy.
I was talking about this amazon.com
>future has provided me with a 1tb optical that sits empty while I fly around with everything on SSD.
Yes.
Get the newer version of that drive. There is a firmware update that improves write endurance that can't be applied to the older version. It's the same maximum write speed, but the newer one is able to sustain peak write speeds for longer.
They are superior, yes. However, when considering value for your money, I think it is important to consider how you use the machine the drive will be installed in.
For me, I rarely reboot my machine, my browser and most other applications stay open, and I don't really move files around, so an HDD is entirely sufficient.
Is an SSD just a bunch of flash drives in RAID 0?
Your mom is a meme. Fuck off.
> Is SSD a meme?
This question is some years late. No, it is not.
> Should I replace my malfunctioning HD with a SanDisk Plus SSD?
No, you should replace it with whatever works well for you in terms of storage capacity and performance.
If you want / need a faster SSD rather than a still bigger HDD, you might use a KingDian as much as a Samsung or whatever.
No, that's overly simplistic. There are some 2TB and larger drives that are two PCBs working in a JBOD array, though.
does burst matter at all for an hdd?
for instance the hgst deskstar 4tb has a 64mb cache I think
but is burst speed literally just to show off that - hey we can make use of all that sata 3 bandwidth!
or does it actually make even a small difference in performance?
in other words is it the aerodynamic spoiler as it were, of the storage world?
is this a good deal for a 4 port raid 1 controller? 85$
Link?
Why not go for the extra warranty on the extreme pro? They must really believe in that thing. Haven't had it for long enough to know if it will hold up, but the thing is fast and quiet. Recommend either one.
>SSD= 0 rpm
Why do you guys accept this jew act?
If it's a laptop, 100% yes; they're lighter and use less power. If it's a desktop, yes, but as an OS drive. You might want a TB HDD if you still hoard porn and pirated movies.
Only valid reason for SSD is silence.
i can't live without an ssd now. if i had to choose between a top tier graphics card and a mediocre ssd, i'd go with the ssd
>the everything's a meme meme
Fuck off you goddamned retard
No, plus you probably should do softraid on BSD or Linux anyhow.
Hardware / "hardware" RAID with shitty no-name brands = data loss and pain.
>lighter
>less power
you took the literal two most useless 'positives' for an argument
weight makes no noticeable difference, period
power usage is a couple watts IF THAT (depends on the model), which isnt going to effect overall times
an ssd is good for a laptop because if you move the device around when its on you dont have a risk of head failure. even that is less now because machines will park the heads when they detect movement, but that is just another thing that gives an overall bump in performance
the only meme is hybrid drives
>SanDisk Plus SSD
I don't know about that particular ssd, but they are nice in general
The weird downside about SSDs I have: I spent some time getting sleep to work on my computer (messing around with UEFI settings, but really all I needed to do was update the UEFI), but it's really not much faster than just cold booting, lel. I have an NVMe 950 Pro.
I still put it to sleep though, because all my programs and whatnot will be open still after a wake.
Bought my 1st SSD in 2012. Such a difference. yes do it pleb
>malfunctioning HD
yep you should replace it
Asking if SSD is a meme is.
99% Yes for laptops, it gets rid of hard drive noise and you don't need that big drive for laptops.
80% Yes for desktops. People may tell you it doesn't actually save much time to open things faster but it just feels much better to be able to actually load things faster. This only makes up 30% of the reason, 50% is if you are actually using computer for calculation and engineering applications, it makes your life significantly nicer.
0% Yes for long term storage, movies and junk, recovery and backup. It's just not necessary.
Just buy it, storage is as cheap as it can get at the moment and the price difference is not significant if you are already spending 1k+ on your computer. Most of the pro-HDD arguments are valid for server and archive use anyway.
YOU GOT YOUR MEME AND NON MEME ALL MEMED UP YOU STUPID DICKHEAD
GROW
A
BRAIN
SON
if youre not some kind of poor nigger and want faster loading on everything than yes get it
Instant? Only if poorfag.
Richfags with SSDs in RAID or NVMe have to wait a few seconds longer because of initialization. It more than makes up for it in performance.
Do yourself a favor and go on eBay, search for a HP RAID controller, or anything else with an LSI chipset that is enterprise grade. You fuck with Startech, you gonna cry.
>pay 4 times the price of hdd
>for 5 seconds faster start up
>not a meme
ok Sup Forums
Don't fall for the chink marketing, it's all just a meme bro. Keep your reliably HDD.
I fucking hate memeware.
More like the racing stripe of the world.
>Windowsfags NEED to pay 5x for less storage just to not have to wait 20 minutes for their pc to start
Well, the nice thing about arch linux is that, I don't need to invest in memes for my 10 second startup time.
sandisk plus dont suffer write troghput falloff like other cheap drives
copy 1-5 gb files to the drive
cheap drives and sandisk plus = 300-400mb/s
copy 10-30+gb of files to the drive
cheap drives = 20-40mb/s after the first 8gb
sandisk plus steady 300-400mbs till the very end, no windows chaching bullshit
Should I buy a SSD from ADATA or AMD?
Yes
The only way to go is hybrid
>Not preferring superior rotational velocidensity
ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS
What are you fucking retired?
the real meme is idiots asking if ssd is a meme
I hope y'all enjoy replacing your SSD every 3 years because read and write limit.
That limit is so far that you would have to write something 24/7 which nobody is doing.
lol retard consumer SSD have eclipsed all but the top of the line pro HDDs in every performance category especially overall value
does mom know you bought those HDDs just to back up pony porn with triple redundant parity?
>tfw I can do my own research and don't need to ask g if something is a meme
retarded*?
You must be loading some pure autism. Its night and day for me going from a 5400 rpm HDD and a 500mb read and write SSD
I don't really give a shit about boot times, although they are nice, since I almost never shutdown. The real benefit from my SSDs have been speeding up access times and internal program things relating to access. That shit is just incomparably better than HDD.
The other huge benefit is the fact that SSDs make no sound.
