That's an old laptop though my new one is pretty nice. It doesn't even compete with some of your desktop war machines but I can run GTAV and Dark Souls 3 in high settings and 60fps.
I don't need more. I do more video editing and music producing than gaming.

Even for 1280x1024 its really showing its age now. If I stick to brand new ($100 budget) I'm limited to about a GT 740 GDDR5 but if I dare go used who knows what I could get. Feels risky though.

Your GPU isn't your only bottleneck, that CPU's single core performance is so low that you are almost undoubtedly hitting a CPU limit in your games.

Just upgraded to 750ti, coming from Intel HD graphic it's a huge improvement. Overall for a poorfag like me, this just works.
Was considering getting 2500k for cpu upgrade but that i3 is doing pretty fine so I guess not, maybe I will actually get a SSD next time.

The 2500k would give you 2 more cores, but it wouldnt improve your single core performance much at all, which is primarily what games rely on.

Nah I've used a i7 980x and had similar results with single core speed. Granted the 980x is from 2010 but either way It would be cheaper to upgrade the GPU then the CPU & motherboard (and ram if DDR4)

It was 1600 mhz at 8-8-8 originaly but I oc'd it to 1866 mhz at 9-9-9

Got the same problem, GPU-Z shows 8gb so it's probably fine.

I have that exact same motherboard and processor.
The computer doesn't work anymore since it's missing a PSU and CPU cooler, but I still got it.

Considering that there's only 3 internal drives not that bad. (1 internal desktop drive, a SSD and a 2.5" laptop drive.)

RAM and VGA update is on the way, also another 2TB drive is needed soon.

i made the mistake of going assrock and am regretting it.

MFW unboxing the mobo. Would have not paid retail price for it tho, got it from a friend who gets them by the dozen from one of his modding sponsors, it was around the price of an Asus Z170K.

Back in 2010 when I worked at a repair shop we got lots of Asrock boards with capacitors puked all over themselves, I know nowadays it's a different generation, but it really put me off.
